Jihadi: Path to Heaven is a novel describing the life of Zabiullah Omarkhel who was born in Afghanistan just prior to the Soviet/Afghan War. The book begins with his birth in the small village of Koh-e Dalan Sang nestled in the Panjshir Valley, and tells the story of his childhood and early schooling in the village's maktab (primary school). It continues with his education at a madrassa (secondary school) in the province's capital city, Bazarak, where he is introduced to the teachings and ideology of an ultra-conservative version of Sunni Islam that will eventually give rise to the Taliban. The continuing excesses and horrors of the Soviet occupation subsequently drive him into the hands of an even more radical group of mujahideen, the Soldiers of the Levant. Eventually, he ends up at an al-Qaeda training camp in Herat, Afghanistan, and from there is persuaded to engage in Holy Jihad against the cursed infidels who continue to defile his land and threaten Islam itself.

Club Harlem is an exciting anecdote about the historic night club of the same name, once a mid-20th century epicenter of African-American entertainment in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Founded in 1935 by brothers Leroy "Pop" and Cliff Williams, Club Harlem was a retreat from racial discrimination and segregation in the city, a home for African-American musicians, artists, and comedians to display their craft in front of an inclusive community. Its most elaborate production was a revue called Smart Affairs by Larry Steele, which brought dozens of the greatest performers from around the country to the premiere stage of black nightlife that was Club Harlem. This book details the context in which the Club was established, the community it influenced, and the many talented artists it fostered. It also highlights the many other African-American businesses, clubs, and services that thrived in the city before Club Harlem's eventual downfall.

Relationships are a gift; they are a privilege. A deep and meaningful connection with another human is something you earn because of who you are. It's not something to which you are entitled. We must never forget that people can disappear from our lives at any moment. Even this gift of being alive and the opportunity we were given to live this life is a privilege with no guarantee. Now, this book may not be for everyone. Yes, it enhances your ability to have much more meaningful relationships with friends and family and to even breathe new life into a marriage or intimate partnership. But even more, what this book will teach can transform your future relationships. If you are sick of the constant struggle and don't understand why your relationships have consistently failed, this book is for you. If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and put in the hard work that solid, meaningful relationships require, this book is for you. If you are ready to dig deep into yourself and your own issues-to take a long, hard look in the mirror-so you can bring your best self to a relationship with your future partner, this book is definitely for you. This book is not designed for you to learn how to fix othersbut for you to fix yourself. One thing you CAN control is you. One thing you CANNOT control is others. The goal of this book is to make you the best you, and when you're done, you will understand others better.
Ever since the accident, ex-cop Tom Parsons's life has been crumbling around him: his marriage and career have fallen apart, his grown children barely speak to him, and he can't escape the dark thoughts plaguing his mind. Leaving the urban misery of Winnipeg, he tries to remake himself in the small lakeside town of Valhalla, with its picturesque winter landscape and promise as a "fisherman's paradise." As the locals make it clear that newcomers, especially ex-RCMP, are less than entirely welcome, he throws himself into repairing his run-down cabin. But Tom has barely settled in the town when he finds the body of a fifteen-year-old Indigenous girl on the beach, not far from his home. The police write off Angel's death as just another case of teenagers partying too hard. But the death haunts Tom, and he can't leave the case closed--something just doesn't add up. He begins visiting the locals, a mix of Icelandic eccentrics, drug dealers and other odd sorts you'd expect to find in an isolated town, seeking out Angel's story. With the entitled tourists with their yachts and the mysterious Odin group living up the lake, Valhalla is much more than it originally seemed. And as Tom peels off the layers, he hopes to expose the dark rot underneath. W.D. Valgardson's expert manipulation of metaphor and imagery brings a mythic scale to the murder mystery at the heart of In Valhalla's Shadows. He shapes a portrait of small-town living with frank depictions of post-traumatic stress, RCMP conduct, systemic racism and the real-life tragedies that are too often left unsolved.

W. D. Mahan investigates Roman, Greek and Jewish writings corresponding to the time of the death of Jesus Christ, including letters apparently written by Pontius Pilate; the Roman governor who sentenced the Son of God to death. This book combines translations to English of various ancient documents, which are purported to date to the time of the New Testament Gospels. These papers were discovered in the Turkish capital of Constantinople, and in the archives of the Vatican. The manuscripts were said to originate from the time of Tiberius Caesar, and include a long letter from Pontius Pilate to his superior, Emperor Tiberius of Rome - Pilate alludes to encountering a philosopher named Jesus, and relates the events that culminated in the death of Christ. In the modern day, scholars consider the Acta Pilate to date from a later time than the life of Jesus, with most agreeing that the 4th century AD is the probable period of origin. The Hillel letters also date from the 4th century, and offer an insightful history of the Sanhedrim rabbis who would gather in Israel to discuss spiritual matters at the time. Hillel comments on the relationship between God and the Jews, his insightful words shedding light on Judaic worship.
