This book presents a focus on proteins and their structures. The text describes various scalable solutions for protein structure similarity searching, carried out at main representation levels and for prediction of 3D structures of proteins. Emphasis is placed on techniques that can be used to accelerate similarity searches and protein structure modeling processes. The content of the book is divided into four parts. The first part provides background information on proteins and their representation levels, including a formal model of a 3D protein structure used in computational processes, and a brief overview of the technologies used in the solutions presented in the book. The second part of the book discusses Cloud services that are utilized in the development of scalable and reliable cloud applications for 3D protein structure similarity searching and protein structure prediction. The third part of the book shows the utilization of scalable Big Datacomputational frameworks, like Hadoop and Spark, in massive 3D protein structure alignments and identification of intrinsically disordered regions in protein structures. The fourth part of the book focuses on finding 3D protein structure similarities, accelerated with the use of GPUs and the use of multithreading and relational databases for efficient approximate searching on protein secondary structures. The book introduces advanced techniques and computational architectures that benefit from recent achievements in the field of computing and parallelism. Recent developments in computer science have allowed algorithms previously considered too time-consuming to now be efficiently used for applications in bioinformatics and the life sciences. Given its depth of coverage, the book will be of interest to researchers and software developers working in the fields of structural bioinformatics and biomedical databases.
The Substantive and Procedural Rules Regarding Admissibility of Confessions
Academic Paper from the year 2022 in the subject Law - Miscellaneous, Mzumbe University, language: English, abstract: Admissions and confessions are these statements are admissible on the strength that admissible as exceptions to the rule against hearsay evidence . They are based on the principle that no person can make statement against his own interest unless it is true. The general rule in both civil and criminal cases is that any relevant statement made by a party is evidence against him. In civil cases, for instance, statements made out of court by a party to the proceedings or by a person connected with him by any of the relationships are admissible in evidence against but not usually in favor of such a party. In regarding to the law of Evidence Act which covers different aspects including both substantive and procedural rules, has attributed it a substantive law at the same time it's a procedural law. Therefore taking Confession, the Court of Appeal has often provided information on how our Judges (Justice of Peace) are required to take confession or confession of wrongdoing. Unfortunately, these instructions have been disregarded and thus have been the source of many dismissal appeals by this Court. Factors to consider are clearly stated in the case of Hatibu Gandhi & Others v. Republic and Petro Teophan vs The Republic. It will be better if they were read intensively and educate judges in courts of law. Aggrieved with those Court of appeal decisions, the judges should go through the book called "A Guide for Justice of the Peace".To expedite the implementation of these resolutions herein, we have explained the whole substantive and procedure for taking a confession statement.

The Ironic Calvinism of Daniel Kalaj (d. 1681)

The Ironic Calvinism of Daniel Kalaj (d. 1681)

Daniel Kalaj (d.1681) was a Polish Reformer of Hungarian background, born in Little Poland (Malopolska) and trained in Franeker, Friesland, under some of the most brilliant Reformed theologians of seventeenth-century Europe, such as Cocceius and Cloppenburgh. Kalaj's ministry in the Reformed Church of Little Poland was abruptly interrupted when Catholic authorities wrongly accused him of spreading then-outlawed Arianism, calling him a "Calvinoarian." Kalaj became the first Polish Protestant minister to receive a sentence of capital punishment as a result of the new anti-toleration law issued in 1658 against Arians, under the false pretext of military treason during the Second Northern War (1655-1660). He escaped the axe by fleeing to Lithuania (and later to Gdansk), where he wrote his best-known work "A Friendly Dialogue between an Evangelical Minister and a Roman Catholic Priest". The "Friendly Dialogue" is both: Kalaj's own personal defense and a compendium to Polish Reformed doctrine, and has a strongly irenic disposition. In contrast with many Reformed thinkers of his day, Kalaj is capable of communicating Reformed doctrine in a friendly and peaceful manner. He places special emphasis on the unity of the catholic church, as expressed in his statement that "the three churches Roman, and Lutheran, and Reformed are all part of one true church before God," while at the same time attempting to retain his Reformed orthodoxy.

The magnetic and related properties of lanthanide and actinide pnictides and chalcogenides have been compiled in subvolume 27B. While subvolumes 27B1, 27B2, 27B3, 27B4 and 27B5 (already published) deal with lanthanide pnictides and lanthanide chalcogenides of different type, the properties of actinide pnictides and chalcogenides are covered in subvolumes 27B6, 27B7 and 27B8 (already published). The present subvolume 27B7 deals with binary actinide pnictides and chalcogenides. Binary actinide pnictides and chalcogenides form a large family of phases with different crystal and magnetic structures and a variety of physical properties. The literature has been reviewed up to the beginning of 2004. An index of substances at the end of this subvolume lists all binary actinide pnictides and chalcogenides treated in this subvolume.

This monograph is a summary of research in twentieth-century Polish-French relations conducted by the authors over the course of many years. This relationship is shown against the background of the dynamic international situation. The structure for arguments made in this work consists of events from the years 1944 to 1989 and thus covers the period in which communists took power in Poland and stabilized and solidified their rule over the country. In addition to sections devoted to political relations, this work contains detailed discussion of economic issues as well as of cultural, academic, scientific and educational questions. The authors devoted individual chapters to relations between the communist parties of both countries, arguing that actions taken by these parties influenced the shape of the relationship far beyond inter-party collaboration.
The Archparadox of Death

The Archparadox of Death

The book deals with martyrdom understood as a philosophical category. The main question pertains to the evidential value of the Christian witness through death. The author approaches an answer through a philosophical interpretation of the belief in the evidential role of martyrdom. Numerous historical documents confirm that ancient martyrdom might have been considered as a kind of proof also by people unaffiliated with the Church. The author observes the theology and the reality of martyrdom through the perspective of the ancient philosophy of death and radical personal transformation. He believes that the Christian stance in the face of persecutions could have been understood as the realization of the unrealized ambitions of philosophy, thereby proving indirectly the veracity of the teaching revealed by Jesus Christ.
Narses. Politik, Krieg Und Historiographie

This book is an in-depth study of EU judicial language and its impact on the language of national judges. It is the first comprehensive study of the judicial variety of the Polish Eurolect. The book applies the intertextual relation of textual fit and corpora of EU and Polish judgments to empirically measure the linguistic distance between translations and non-translations. It analyzes both the level of genre macrostructure and the microstructure (lexis and grammar, formulaicity, terminology). This interdisciplinary monograph explores a distinct European, translation-shaped variety of judicial language which departs from the conventions of judicial Polish. The volume is essential reading for researchers in legal linguistics, legal translation and genre analysis.

The book consists of four chapters. The first one contains information about the topic which introduce the project’s characteristics, and, at the same time, provide the background for further theoretical and methodological reflection. The second chapter contains a list of research problems and questions, a presentation of the philosophical worldviews (research paradigms) of the project team who guided the planned research and which resulted in the adoption of research strategies compatible with them, and, consequently, procedures and techniques for obtaining source materials and their analysis. In the third chapter, we present a set of terms, ideas, and concepts which inspired the project team as useful tools for describing and analysing the phenomenon under study. The fourth chapter is a kind of ligature that binds together all the previous findings, it is a summary of integrating ideas, concepts, as well as the adopted research procedures and techniques.
