Action research is defined and scholarship is presented to suggest a central role for the action-research cycle of framing an inquiry question, developing and implementing an instructional plan, collecting and analyzing data on the outcomes and possible answers to the inquiry question, reflecting on the results in consultation with students and colleagues, and using new understandings to inform subsequent rounds of the cycle. A thought-experiment approach is suggested for the purposes of fitting into a teacher-preparation syllabus a vivid enough introduction to the action-research cycle for teacher candidates to internalize the process and be able to utilize it to continually improve their teaching practices. The author describes and analyzes his own effort to teach the action-research process in two sections of an introductory course in special education within the undergraduate teacher education program at an institution of higher education in western Kansas.

This book is about psychosis as I know it: phenomena, accessing the impact of the phenomena, and the development of the coping mechanisms, and tactics, to alleviate the impact. Tactics include the defect and workaround components. As for defects, they are not equivalent to symptoms, but the severe weaknesses manifested in the form of symptoms. The workarounds have been used to manage the defects while keeping myself out of the psychiatric ward. I offer these as examples and hope they might be of help to someone, somehow. Following the narrative described above is a more scientific approach where I examine my functioning in the context of several academic models of brain functioning. With an n=1 and no way to tease out the effects of aging, I cannot offer any solid conclusions. But I can hope that you might find something useful in your understanding of what went wrong with me. After years of living with my psychosis, my private psychotic model eventually emerged. It is an experiment to illustrate my mental model of how my psychosis works. It is grounded in human development with a focus on human cognition. It is raw-how my head would like it to be. It could be refined. But it is what I can offer so far. In addition, my head forbade me to read anything targeting the psychotic population. Whether good or bad, my head dictated the content, the format, and the language used in this half-baked model that I cooked up in my backyard.

Honey Bear describes her daily routine, as well as how she has helped her "people family" in some emergency situations. Chapter titles like "Presidents and Their Dogs," "Things I Love and Hate," and "My First Plane Trip" indicate the breadth of information this book contains - offered in an intimate first-person voice, dog to child. All children will enjoy reading about the adventures of Honey Bear. However, children with someone in their life who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease like Parkinson's will be especially touched. This book is an excellent tool for beginning the difficult discussion of how, and why, their family member is changing. As Honey Bear says: I hope that this book will inspire people with Parkinson's to get a dog. We are the best medicine- better than anything the neurologists prescribe. All proceeds from the sale of this book are donated by the authors to the Parkinson's Association of San Diego.
