Collaboration, Technologies, and the History of Shakespearean Bibliography

Collaboration, Technologies, and the History of Shakespearean Bibliography

Heidi Craig; Laura Estill; Kris L. May; Dorothy Todd

Cambridge University Press
2026
nidottu
This Element traces the history of Shakespearean bibliography from its earliest days to the present. With an emphasis on how we enumerate and find scholarship about Shakespeare, this Element argues that understanding bibliographies is foundational to how we research Shakespeare. From early modern catalogs of Shakespeare plays, to early bibliographers such as Albert Cohn (1827–1905) and William Jaggard (1868–1947), to present-day digital projects such as the online World Shakespeare Bibliography, this Element underscores how the taxonomic organization, ambit, and media of enumerative Shakespearean bibliography projects directly impact how scholars value and can use these resources. Ultimately, this Element asks us to rethink our assumptions about Shakespearean bibliography by foregrounding the labor, collaboration, technological innovations, and critical decisions that go into creating and sustaining bibliographies at all stages. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.
Visions for Intercultural Music Teacher Education

Visions for Intercultural Music Teacher Education

Heidi Partti; Sidsel Karlsen; Heidi Westerlund

Saint Philip Street Press
2020
pokkari
This open access book highlights the importance of visions of alternative futures in music teacher education in a time of increasing societal complexity due to increased diversity. There are policies at every level to counter prejudice, increase opportunities, reduce inequalities, stimulate change in educational systems, and prevent and counter polarization. Foregrounding the intimate connections between music, society and education, this book suggests ways that music teacher education might be an arena for the reflexive contestation of traditions, hierarchies, practices and structures. The visions for intercultural music teacher education offered in this book arise from a variety of practical projects, intercultural collaborations, and cross-national work conducted in music teacher education. The chapters open up new horizons for understanding the tension-fields and possible discomfort that music teacher educators face when becoming change agents. They highlight the importance of collaborations, resilience and perseverance when enacting visions on the program level of higher education institutions, and the need for change in re-imagining music teacher education programs. The Classic Edition of Heidi Keller’s Cultures of Infancy, first published in 2007, includes a new introduction by the author, which describes for readers the original context of her work, how she has further developed her research and thinking, and the ongoing relevance of this volume in the context of future challenges for the field. In its original volume, Cultures of Infancy presented the first systematic analysis of culturally informed developmental pathways, synthesizing evolutionary and cultural psychological perspectives for a broader understanding of human development. In this compelling book, Heidi Keller utilizes ethnographic reports, as well as quantitative and qualitative analyses, to illustrate how humans resolve universal developmental tasks in particular sociodemographic contexts. These contexts are represented in cultural models, with three distinct models addressed throughout the text: the model of independence with autonomy as developmental organizer; the model of interdependence with relatedness as the developmental organizer; and the model of autonomous relatedness representing particular mixtures of autonomy and relatedness. The book offers an empirical examination of the first integrative developmental task during the early months of life—relationship formation. Keller shows that early parenting experiences shape the basic foundation of the self within particular models of parenting that are influenced by culturally informed socialization goals. With distinct patterns of results that the studies have revealed, Cultures of Infancy helps redefine developmental psychology as part of a culturally informed science based on evolutionary groundwork. Scholars interested in a broad perspective on human development and culture will benefit from this pioneering volume.

The Therapeutic Afterlife

The Therapeutic Afterlife

Heidi Marie Rimke

The Therapeutic Afterlife: Spirituality and the New Sacred provides a compelling and original analysis of how contemporary self-help literature is transforming our ideas about God, the soul, and life after death. As more people identify as “spiritual but not religious,” these concepts—once grounded exclusively in formal religious traditions—are now recast in the language of healing, growth, empowerment, and wellness, reshaping both spirituality and health discourses in the twenty-first century. Topics explored include after-death communication, near-death experiences, reincarnation, past-life memories, karma, mediumship, paranormal trauma, out-of-body experiences, suicide, angel therapy, demonology, spirit possession, clinical exorcism, psychic abilities, and more. The study shows how these themes are integrated into therapeutic culture, reframing the afterlife as an essential part of a holistic, transformative approach to living—one that challenges conventional psychotherapeutic frameworks, secular worldviews, and traditional religion. It offers a novel examination of the popular ‘afterlife therapeutic’ as indicative of a profound re-enchantment of society. Its insights will resonate not only with scholars of sociology but also across related disciplines including psychology, religious studies, anthropology, and cultural studies. By conceptualizing the therapeutic afterlife as a new sacred paradigm, this book provides an indispensable guide to one of the fastest-growing fields in contemporary culture.

Using a critical lens derived from ecopsychology and its praxis, ecotherapy, this book explores the relationships Madeleine L’Engle develops for her characters in a selection of the novels from her three Time, Austin family, and O’Keefe family series as those relationships develop along a human-nonhuman kinship continuum. This is accomplished through an examination both of pairs of novels from the fantastic and the realistic series, and of single novels which stand out as slightly different from the most prominent genre in a given series. Thus, this examination also shows L’Engle’s fluid movement along a fantasy-reality continuum and demonstrates the integration of the three series with each other. Importantly, through examining these relationships and this movement along continuums in these novels, the project demonstrates how ecopsychology and ecotherapy provide strong and important – and as-yet virtually unexplored – intersections with children’s literature.

William Wordsworth and the Theology of Poverty

William Wordsworth and the Theology of Poverty

Heidi J. Snow

TAYLOR FRANCIS LTD
2024
nidottu
Exploring the relationship between poverty and religion in William Wordsworth’s poetry, Heidi J. Snow challenges the traditional view that the poet’s early years were primarily irreligious. She argues that this idea, based on the equation of Christianity with Anglicanism, discounts the richly varied theological landscape of Wordsworth’s youth. Reading Wordsworth’s poetry in the context of the diversity of theological views represented in his milieu, Snow shows that poems like The Excursion reject Anglican orthodoxy in favor of a meld of Quaker, Methodist, and deist theologies. Rather than support a narrative of Wordsworth’s life as a journey from atheism to orthodoxy or even from radicalism to conservatism, therefore, Wordsworth’s body of work consistently makes a case for a sensitive approach to the problem of the poor that relies on a multifaceted theological perspective. To reconstruct the religious context in which Wordsworth wrote in its complexity, Snow makes extensive use of the materials in the record offices of the Lake District and the religious sermons and congregational records for the orthodox Anglican, evangelical Anglican, Methodist, and Quaker congregations. Snow’s depiction of the multiple religious traditions in the Lake District complicates our understanding of Wordsworth’s theological influences and his views on the poor.

Using Rubrics for Teaching and Learning offers practical, evidence-based ideas for how rubrics can serve the multifaceted needs of students. Research shows that, under the right conditions, rubrics can promote learning, scaffold effective peer and self-assessment, and even support self-regulated learning, while also expediting an informative grading process. Built on four principles of effective application, this accessible book posits that rubrics must be developmentally and pedagogically appropriate, illuminate the learning goals, enable constructive feedback, and produce fair grades. Critiques of common shortcomings in rubric design and implementation offer guidance for positive, purposeful classroom experiences. Pre- and in-service teachers who read this book will come away with skills in using rubrics to support learning.
