Even as a believer, life has its dark and dawn times, its ups and downs. Life has its smooth and rough times; its troubles, trials, and tests. Life has its difficult, discouraging, and disappointing times; its times of challenges and complications. Life has its share of storms and situations; it has its times of sorrow, suffering, grief, and loss. Life has its times of hurts, heartaches, and pain; its times of struggle. Life has its time of adversity and chaos; its times of frustration and being overwhelmed. Life has its times of bitterness and uncertainty; its times when things go from worse to worse. Life has its times when nothing seems to be going right; times when all feels like it is against you. Life has times when one situation after another comes rushing into your life like the waters of a mighty river. Before one situation is over, two more come in more powerful and hectic than the one that already exists. No, life is not always a time of ease or comfort. Sometimes it is uneasy and uncomfortable. Yet in the midst of life's circumstances, there is good news, and the good news is that God is ever-present. He's always there for you no matter if life's skies are blue or gray. Whatever you face in life, so does God. Good or bad, painful or pleasant, you never face it alone because He's always there for you. Life has times of change and transition, all which are part of God's greater plan and purpose for you and your life. The good news when it comes to life is that no matter what you face or go through in life, your heart can be comforted and your soul at peace in knowing that He's Always There for You.

Life is a journey which the soul embarks on. It is like an unfinished book, waiting to add new chapters from stories not yet written. One never knows what the journey will carry one through or even the seasons the journey will bring forth. Only God knows. Yesterday one could have been in a Desert season. Today one could be in a Valley season, looking up at the Mountains. The same God who was with one in their Desert season is the same God with one today in their Valley season, with the view of the Mountains that surround one. The comfort and peace to the believer's soul is knowing that God can be trusted in every season. As you read and reflect on these little humorous stories of life's seasons, I pray and hope that you will enjoy one or two little chuckles. I also pray that you may be able to relate and identify with the characters Mountain, Valley, Foothill, Hillside, Flatland, Rangeland, Desert, and Lowland as each goes through the difficulties, disappointments, and ups and downs. Most often, these are part of what some of life's seasons cause the heart and soul to feel and experience. Enjoy the laughter, love, and lessons from Humorous Stories for Life's Seasons. Remember that laughter is good for the soul.

Irene Hope Hedrick has returned with Volume 2 of her memoir. A gifted writer and storyteller, she can still recite from Robert Louis Stevenson's poem From A Railway Carriage. Irene's father read William Blake to her as a child, called her by her nickname, "Our I." She learned early that "Infinity is in the here and now," and that "Eternity demands, is relentless." Her father also told her: "If you grow up with a kind heart and a sense of love, you'll live to be a hundred." Irene intends to, even as she invites you to listen to her stories from the depression, World War II in England, marriage to a Yankee soldier and immigration to the United States. If, as it is said, "Charity can be given with an empty hand, with a kind word" Irene has been charitable in the gift of these hopeful tales. She includes quotes by thinkers as diverse as Plato, Herodotus, song lyrics, and wisdom-bearing language. Read and be nourished. Ann Staley, teacher, poet & essayist, author of Primary Sources

The Rhetoric of Free Speech in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages
The early Middle Ages is not a period traditionally associated with free speech. It is still widely held that free speech declined towards the end of Antiquity, disappearing completely at the beginning of the Middle Ages, and only re-emerging in the Renaissance, when people finally learned to think and speak for themselves again. Challenging this tenacious image, Irene van Renswoude reveals that there was room for political criticism and dissent in this period, as long as critics employed the right rhetoric and adhered to scripted roles. This study of the rhetoric of free speech from c.200 to c.900 AD explores the cultural rules and rhetorical performances that shaped practices of delivering criticism from Antiquity to the Middle Ages, examining the rhetorical strategies of letters and narratives in the late antique and early medieval men, and a few women, who ventured to speak the truth to the powerful.

Creating New Markets in the Digital Economy looks at how digitisation is radically changing the way we buy and experience products and services. Sharing her unique perspective of both business and academia, Irene Ng examines the implications of digital connectivity, including the need to design and scale future business models to better fit 'lived lives', creating value as well as increasing worth so that new markets can emerge. The book provides a conceptual framework and practical advice to equip readers with the knowledge they need to develop future products and services that take advantage of connectivity and serve contexts better. With its accessible language, numerous case examples and illustrations to illuminate challenging concepts, this book is an important resource for business leaders, entrepreneurs and policy makers, as well as students of service science, business and engineering.
Persuasion, Rhetoric and Roman Poetry

Persuasion, Rhetoric and Roman Poetry

Previous studies on the relationship between rhetorical theory and Roman poetry have generally taken the form of lists enumerating elements of style and arrangement that poets are said to have 'borrowed' from rhetorical critics. This book examines, and ultimately questions, this entrenched theoretical model and the very notion of rhetorical influence on which this paradigm is built. Tracing key moments in the poetic and the rhetorical traditions, in the context of which the problematic relationship of difference and similarity between rhetorical and poetic discourse is discussed, the book focuses on the cultural relevance of this intellectual divide in Roman literary culture. The study of rhetorical sources, such as Cicero, Seneca the Elder and Quintilian, and of select responses in Roman poetry, sheds light on long-standing scholarly assumptions about classical poetry as artless language and about the role of rhetoric in the construction of the decline of post-classical cultures.
The Rhetoric of the Roman Fake

The Rhetoric of the Roman Fake

Previous scholarship on classical pseudepigrapha has generally aimed at proving issues of attribution and dating of individual works, with little or no attention paid to the texts as literary artefacts. Instead, this book looks at Latin fakes as sophisticated products of a literary culture in which collaborative practices of supplementation, recasting and role-play were the absolute cornerstones of rhetorical education and literary practice. Texts such as the Catalepton, the Consolatio ad Liviam and the Panegyricus Messallae thus illuminate the strategies whereby Imperial audiences received and interrogated canonical texts and are here explored as key moments in the Imperial reception of Augustan authors such as Virgil, Ovid and Tibullus. The study of the rhetoric of these creative supplements irreverently mingling truth and fiction reveals much not only about the neighbouring concepts of fiction, authenticity and reality, but also about the tacit assumptions by which the latter are employed in literary criticism.
