This book provides a concept to analyze and increase the energy and resource efficiency of machining systems. Machining systems are widely used to produce workpieces in large quantities and with complex geometrical shapes. These systems, however, are also relevant in terms of energy and resource consumption, which is strongly connected to the choice of cutting fluid strategy. Within the focus of the concept, cutting fluid connects the elements of the machining system and results in interactions between them. Based on this description and an extensive literature review, a modeling approach is developed that comprises the relations between process parameters, cutting fluid strategies, and relevant machining system elements. The performance of the machining system is assessed with regard to environmental, economic as well as technological indicators and improved by various organizational and technical measures. The exemplary application of the developed concept is carried out in the context of two case studies and also indicates the corresponding effects of improvement measures.

This conceptualization allows us to analyze global crises not only in their immediate environment, but makes it possible to understand them in the broader context of social instability. The approach revolves around the terminology of discursive dislocation which provides fundamental insights into diverse forms of social instability. A multidimensional conceptualization of dislocation is advanced which informs the differentiation of global crises. Furthermore, a methodological toolkit is developed and tailored to the theoretical framework, which makes it possible to utilize the book both theoretically and methodologically for the analysis of manifold forms of global crises. The book also provides a comprehensive analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States under Donald Trump. Making use of the aforementioned methodology, it presents a hands-on illustration of how the multidimensional framework can be utilized for practical analyses. The analysis reveals how the construction of the Covid-19 pandemic is embedded in the historically ingrained self-portrayal of the United States, and how crisis responses are invoked to serve particular socio-political purposes in retaining an established vision of the United States.

A la fin des annees 1990, le role de la Suisse durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale fait l'objet de vives polemiques au cours desquelles se confrontent la memoire portee par les acteurs du passe et l'histoire en tant qu'interpretation de ce passe. Les tensions et les controverses, largement relayees dans la societe, n'epargnent pas le monde scolaire. Ainsi, jusqu'en 2008, plus de vingt mille eleves de Suisse visitent l'exposition L'Histoire c'est moi qui mediatise les temoignages audiovisuels de personnes racontant leurs souvenirs de l'epoque de la guerre. En suivant la maniere dont cette exposition a ete vecue par le jeune public, ce livre etudie l'expression et la reception de la parole du temoin dans le champ scientifique, dans l'espace public et dans le monde scolaire. Il interroge a la fois la construction de la memoire collective de la Seconde Guerre mondiale en Suisse et la contribution des temoignages oraux a la formation intellectuelle des eleves. Il montre comment se tisse le lien intergenerationnel entre temoins et eleves autour d'une representation partagee du passe, souvent lisse et consensuelle, plus rarement critique et nuancee.

Im massenmedialen Interdiskurs über Klimawandel sind Argumentationen aus Spezialdiskursen unterschiedlicher Handlungsfelder wie Recht, Ethik, Naturwissenschaften etc. zentral. Diese Felder wirken sich stark auf die Art und Weise des Argumentierens und auf die Akzeptanz der Argumentationen aus. Gleichzeitig sind Argumentationen auf der Diskursebene miteinander verflochten in einer topologischen Diskursformationen. Dieses Buch wirft deshalb einen Blick auf die materialen Argumentationen über den Klimawandel in deutschsprachigen Schweizer Medien zwischen 2007 und 2014. Die Grundlage bildet ein Korpus von 30 000 Zeitungsartikeln und Fernsehbeiträgen. Aufgrund der Handlungsfeldspezifik ist ein diskursspezifischer Zugang zu Argumentationen unabdingbar. Als Rahmen dient deshalb der diskurshistorische Ansatz, in den eine sektorale Argumentationstheorie eingebettet wurde, die die feldspezifische, argumentations- und diskursanalytische Betrachtung der Argumentationen in diesem spezifischen Diskurs ermöglicht. Gleichzeitig wurde mit der digitalen Diskursanalyse ein Anknüpfungspunkt für korpuslinguistische Zugänge wie etwa Topic Modelling geschaffen und unter dem Rückgriff auf die normative Pragma-Diaketik ein Gerüst entwickelt, um die materialen Topoi beschreiben zu können. Das Resultat ist eine topologische Diskursformation mit 88 ausdifferenzierten Topoi im medialen Diskurs über den Klimawandel.
