Die Perioceutik oder der Einsatz pharmakologischer Wirkstoffe, die speziell f r die Behandlung von Parodontitis entwickelt wurden, ist neben dem mechanischen Debridement ein interessantes und aufstrebendes Hilfsmittel bei der Behandlung von Parodontalerkrankungen. Der Zweck der wirtsmodulierenden Wirkstoffe, die ein wesentlicher Bestandteil der Perioceutik sind, besteht darin, das Gleichgewicht zwischen entz ndungsf rdernden Mediatoren und zerst rerischen Enzymen einerseits und entz ndungshemmenden Mediatoren und Enzymen andererseits wiederherzustellen. Die wirtsmodulierende Therapie (HMT) ist ein Behandlungskonzept, das darauf abzielt, die Gewebezerst rung zu verringern und den Zahnhalteapparat zu stabilisieren oder sogar zu regenerieren, indem destruktive Aspekte der Wirtsreaktion modifiziert oder herunterreguliert und sch tzende oder regenerative Reaktionen hochreguliert werden. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen berblick ber die Host Modulatory Therapy (HMT), die in Zukunft ein wirksames Instrument f r Zahn rzte sein wird, wenn sie als Erg nzung zur mechanischen Therapie bei der Behandlung von Parodontalerkrankungen eingesetzt wird. Das Interesse an der potenziellen Anwendung der HMT bei der Behandlung von Parodontitis wurde durch ein besseres Verst ndnis der Pathogenese der Parodontitis und das Bewusstsein f r die Bedeutung der Wirtsreaktion bei der Krankheitsanf lligkeit und -progression gef rdert.
