Presidents and First Ladies-Ronald & Nancy Reagan
Presidents and First Ladies An intimate glimpse into the lives of the first families of the United States, Presidents and First Ladies is an exciting and insightful new series that highlights the personal histories of select presidents and first ladies as well as the historical events that shaped their terms in office. Documentary photography, illustrations, and maps combine with compelling text and excerpts from letters and other primary sources to reveal how key personal, political, and historical events affected each leader and their spouse, and consequently the climate of the entire nation.Throughout their married life, Ronald Reagan wrote tender love letters to his wife, Nancy. This playful anniversary note was written in March 1981, soon after Reagan was sworn in as president of the United States. During the fifty-two years of their marriage, Ronald and Nancy shared an extremely close, loving relationship. Even in the Oval Office, Reagan was dependent on his wife for support and counsel. "I miss her if she just walks out of the room," he wrote. She, in turn, adored her "hero." As president and first lady, Ronald and Nancy Reagan lived through eight tumultuous years in the world's spotlight. Through good times and bad, their love story continued.

Ronald H. Coase, one of the most innovative and provocative economists of the twentieth century, has had a lasting influence in economics, law and economics, organization theory, management and political science. In this comprehensive Companion, 31 leading economists, social scientists and legal scholars, including two Nobel Laureates, offer the first global assessment of the initial impact of Coase's work and the continuing inspiration that researchers and policy makers find in his contributions. The book presents a review of the continuing power of Coase's work, including the reshaping of public policies with particular respect to public utilities and network industries. Further chapters explore research programmes that he initiated including the concept of transaction costs and the analysis of property rights, especially in terms of the regulation of the communications industry and the creation of markets for the right to pollute. The book clearly demonstrates the originality of Coase's work and the challenge that it posed to conventional perspectives which has been a hallmark of his research throughout his life, from his initial view on the nature of the firm to his recent analysis of the development of capitalism in China. Less well-known features of Coase's research going beyond his famous papers on 'The Nature of the Firm' and 'The Problem of Social Cost' are also explored in detail. From economics to public policy, this complete and thorough assessment of Coase's vast contribution will be an invaluable reference to all those interested in the many areas influenced by this great economist.Contributors: D.W. THE LEGACY OF RONALD COASE IN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
Ronald Coase, the 1991 Nobel laureate in Economics, has had a profound impact on the way that economists and others view both the firm and the relationship between the legal and economic systems. This authoritative collection brings together the diverse body of literature that reflects Ronald Coase's influence on economic analysis from his early work on the theory of the firm and transaction costs to Coase's theorem and the development of the field of law and economics. The Legacy of Ronald Coase in Economic Analysis features the two seminal articles by Coase which have changed the way economists think about their subject -'The Nature of the Firm' and 'The Problem of Social Cost' - along with a group of the most important articles that have extended and built upon his work. These include contributions by James M. Buchanan, Benjamin Klein, Douglass C. North, Richard A. Posner and Oliver E. Williamson, as well as a specially-prepared, introduction to Coase's work and a comprehensive bibliography of Coase's writings.

The Diaries of Ronald Tritton, War Office Publicity Officer 1940–45
Ronald Tritton was recruited in 1940 for the position of War Office Publicity Officer by Major-General Beith, Director of Public Relations at the War Office, to transform the dysfunctional department. The first civilian to hold the post, it was hoped his professional skills gained in Public Relations for the Savoy Hotel Group would be a valuable tool to overcome the British Army's negativity towards the use of any form of visual publicity. Internal conflicts between the service film units, the newsreel companies and the Americans proved a difficult balancing act for Tritton, as these diaries reveal. They are also an invaluable source of evidence not only for the growth and war effort of the Army Film Unit /Army Film & Photographic Unit, but also for the newsreels. With the support of Major-General Edgeworth-Johnstone, the Assistant Director of Public Relations, Ronald Tritton became the catalyst for the British Army Film and Photographic Unit, despite considerable military and political opposition. This unit was to grow in strength and professionalism throughout the conflict, producing some of the most frequently used film and photographic material of the war. The diaries also provide a record of life at the Savoy Hotel, London, during World War II (Tritton was on a retainer there and counted David Niven amongst his friends) and a wonderfully evocative, almost tangible sense of London and life in the south of England during those years.
Trial of Ronald Light
Death by gunshot. That was the somewhat belated opinion of the doctor who examined Bella Wright's body. Death by gunshot in a lonely Leicestershire lane, on the evening of 5 July 1919. Initially, police enquiries failed to disperse the shadows which enveloped the case. Bella - a free-spirited twenty-one year old - had been seen shortly before her death with a man, cycling the roads outside Leicester, but that man had vanished into nothingness. No trace of him could be detected. Months went by before the fortuitous discovery of the clue - a dismantled green bicycle lying on the bed of a canal - which would lead the police to their elusive suspect. Ronald Light, the bicycle's erstwhile owner, was arrested and charged with Bella's murder. And yet, in some ways, this was only the beginning of the mystery. Who was Light? What had he endured in France during the war? Had he returned to peaceful society traumatised and weaponised? And, if so, what, if anything, firmly connected him to the tragedy in the twilit lane? The trial, which began at Leicester Castle on 9 June 1920, was illuminated by the creative and daring defence set up by Sir Edward Marshall Hall - a performance much admired by a young Norman Birkett, who was appearing for the prosecution. But would Light obtain the benefit of any doubts which Marshall Hall managed to place in the minds of the jury? Or would he find himself tangled forever in the threads of the prosecution's circumstantial case?

Taking sides in Ronald Harwood's "Taking Sides"
Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, University of M nster (Englisches Seminar), 18 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Introduction Wilhelm Furtw ngler was a renowned German conductor before, during and after the Third Reich. He is still known today not least because of his ambiguous relationship with National Socialism. The playwright Ronald Harwood wrote a play named Taking Sides about Furtw ngler's denazification trial. The title appeals to the audience to take sides rather than summing up the plot of the play. Harwood makes his audience witness a dialogue of two contrasting perspectives: Furtw ngler, on the one hand who is convinced of his innocence, and on the other, there is American investigator Major Arnold whose aim is to prove Furtw ngler's guilt. In the end it is up to the audience to take sides (cf. Glaap 2003, p. 13). Questions the playwright poses at his audience are: "Why did Furtw ngler stay in Germany whereas many other artists emigrated? (How) Did he manage to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic without making a deal with high-rank Nazis? Did he make up for his guilt by helping some Jews to escape? Can Arnold be interpreted as advocate of the Third Reich's victims? (cf. ibid.). This essay is not meant to finally expose the truth about Furtw ngler's guilt or innocence; other scholars have attempted to do that. Rather, my interest lies in revealing if Harwood succeeded in creating a neutral play that appeals to the audience to take sides without revealing his own personal opinion. With this working hypothesis I want to start by examining Harwood's motivation to write the play. As a next step the importance of the setting will be examined. When analysing Harwood's choice of characters and their function concerning their questioning or their support of Furtw ngler, I will also examine Furtw ngler's role in the Third Reich as background information.

A Theory of Justice" formulierte. Stephen Guest schreibt ber den Einfluss von Dworkin: "Ronald Dworkin s legal und political theories have a complexity, novelty and moral power that have excited a wide range of academic and political thinkers."
