No one living along the meandering CatClaw Creek in the 1920's could spread a better farm-fresh meal after church like Ella McLeod, despite the dust, the temperatures, or the regularity of West Texas wind. She sustained a large family, husband, 10 sons and daughters and her youngest boy N.L. N.L. enjoys a home life that is much better than Huckleberry Finn's. While Huckleberry had the entire Mississippi River as his playground, N.L. only has the trickles of CatClaw Creek. Still, his life is filled with many memorable moments from capturing critters, downing tall sodas at the drug store, chasing runaway Stetsons, all the while getting his home chores done. N.L. embraces every adventure as he grows up, learns lessons, and wonders what the future holds.

Can an addiction to self-help destroy you?Learning to French kiss at the age of eleven, by way of the seedy back pages of the Penny Saver, Rae got her first hit of self-help and never looked backed. Rae seeks wisdom from authors and bloggers to prepare for milestones, to overcome challenges, and to win at everything. Rae's expert-supported self-education covers oral sex, breaking the glass ceiling, relationships, marriage, divorce, motherhood, and even the patriarchy. But what if the claims sold by health, wealth, and success "experts" didn't work? In fact, what if their advice actually complicated life? Does that say something about them or her? In this fictionalized memoir, Get Off My Boat, Tim: The Dark Side of Self-Help, author R.S. Moon tackles these questions, and chronicles her own comedic, heart-rending, sometimes raunchy, descent into self-help addiction. Rae's journey to gain an edge takes her down a path she never expected with plenty of Gen-X grit, nicotine, and more than a few beers along the way. You won't regret setting sail with Rae as she throws Tim Ferriss and the rest of her self-help gurus overboard as she looks to find peace and self-acceptance in a messy world.

Sometimes it is difficult to see clearly in what direction one's duty lies (and especially difficult for people like myself with a husband in one part of the world and children in another) but Tim and I, talking it over together in cold blood, decided that I ought to go home.Hester Christie, the delightful heroine last met in Mrs. Tim Gets a Job, has spent a blissful 18 months living in Kenya where husband Tim is posted. But now it's back to England to be with her two nearly grown children. She rents a house near the village of Old Quinings in England's North Country, and plans a quiet summer with the children near the inn owned by her beloved former maid Annie and her husband. But things are never quiet for long with Mrs. Tim, and she must navigate curious neighbours, a dishonest landlady, and a troublesome travel companion who makes an unwelcome appearance in Old Quinings, not to mention a bit of intrigue and--as usual for Hester--a bit of matchmaking for young lovers.Mrs. Tim Flies Home, first published in 1952, concludes D.E. Stevenson's much-loved Mrs. Tim series. Furrowed Middlebrow and Dean Street Press have also reprinted Mrs. Tim Carries On and Mrs. Tim Gets a Job. This new edition includes an introduction by Alexander McCall Smith."Another charming romance . . . Strongly recommended for pleasurable reading." Edinburgh Evening News

THE TESTIMONY A little over a year ago, when I was at Stumphouse Tunnel, I went to the viewing platform to look at Issaqueena falls. As I was standing there, looking at the falls, I saw a leather valise. It was one of those old carrying things like your high school English teacher used. It was just a long flat piece of leather with straps on one side and buckles on the other. You put your papers in the middle, folded the leather over, buckled it up and hoped that your papers didn't fall out at either end. No one else was around and I assumed that some one had left it there and would come back for it. I went for a hike over the old railroad grade to Saddle Tunnel and came back in a couple of hours. Before I went home, I decided to go and look at Issaqueena falls one last time. When I got to the platform, I noticed that the valise was still there. It was getting late and beginning to rain. There was no one around so I decided to take the valise so that it wouldn't get wet. When I got home I put it aside. The following night I opened it up and took a look at what was inside. It was full of papers which were yellow with age and the words on the papers looked as if they had been typed with an old typewriter. Within the papers were several versions of what looked like a poem. I took notice because there was a reference to an old Clemson Collage hazing incident. The same poem was written over and over in many different versions and there were many misspellings and changes. After a while, I finally found what seemed to be the final version of the poem. I looked hard but there was nothing in the valise that gave any indication where the valise came from or who owned it. I took the poem and reconstructed it to the best of my ability. This is the poem. Joel Coke

Charlie Und Die Schokoladenfabrik Bei Roald Dahl Und Tim Burton.
