SEIZING THE ESSENCE is about the dynamics of Value that form man s concept of reality. Human beings don't just passively experience the things and events that represent this journey through life; they construct them intellectually from the sense of value that is intrinsic to cognizant creatures. We don't simply enjoy the finer things in life, we aspire to them; and when awed by the experience of great beauty or magnificence, we want to identify with its source. As the created agents of Essence, we intellectualize its value by experiencing it as differentiated reality. Experiencing Value as representational objects in a relational world affirms the Absolute Value of our uncreated source. The tragedy of our materialistic age is that we have mistaken our differentiated, space/time existence for ultimate reality, with the result that we have lost much of our innate value-sensibility. The mindset of most people today has been shaped by objectivists who insist that man is totally a product of biological and cultural evolution. Fueled by Darwin's Origin of the Species, the objectivists have thrown the babe out with the bathwater. "Selfness" is today regarded as a myth of dubious origin, and material reality is believed to be primary to one's awareness of it. SEIZING THE ESSENCE makes the case that all knowledge is proprietary to the self, and that physical reality is an intellectual construct of Value which is the individual s perspective of Essence. The author bases his cosmology on a principle first postulated by the 15th century logician Nicholas of Cusa which deals with a "not-other" that is the coincidence of all otherness. Cusa s theory affords the philosopher a dialectic handle by which to relate finite experience to the Oneness of Essence. It leads logically to a cosmology in which physical existence is a virtual reality created largely by man, who is the cognizant agent of his estranged Essence. Judy distinguished herself in saving the life of a patient that was suffering from a cerebral blood clot. This was her first duty with the Oklahoma Air Guard Flight when another C-141 encountered a rapid decompression at 35,000 feet over Wake Island. Judy and her team were passengers on an empty C-141 when the mission of their C-141 changed to "transport a soldier with cerebral bends to a Navy decompression chamber in Hawaii." As an officer of our Squadron, Judy made the Oklahoma Air Guard proud. We lost a fine Flight Nurse when she transferred from the Air Force to the Army Nurse Corps, to serve in Vietnam. This book is a must read, of the emotions of those that served in the Army and the Air Force and of those we left behind, in 1975, when America lost in the game of dominos and bailed out of Vietnam.Major General Stanley F. In 1866 Stephen Barrett filed for an arrearage of pay from his service with the Union Colored Troops during the Civil War. Ten years later he was dead, and his widow, Sarah, filed for a widow's pension. In a short time, Special Examiners discovered that the widow was not in fact ever married to Barrett. To complicate matters, another player arrived on the scene filing for a pension in the name of the dead soldier. This imposter, Richard Hamilton, was a notorious character from the Florida Everglades who had once been a slave in North Florida. Hamilton created a drama that would later provide a score of legal documents that aided descendants of both families in learning important facts about their family history as well as providing them with the opportunity to 'hear' their ancestors speak through the depositions taken. These documents are transcribed from copies of the original documents housed at the National Archives. The amazing thing about these documents is that, when laid out in chronological order like this, they tell a story, peopled with some fascinating characters. There is a beginning and an ending and many conflicts and plot twists throughout. The reader also comes away with a sense of the time period and the people who lived in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Over the years, the Southern California Youth Chorale traveled to 27 different countries on four continents over a twelve-year period. Some countries were visited multiple times and some, like the Republic of China, Taiwan, East Berlin and Russia, were the realization of an almost impossible dream.Extensive plane flights, long bus rides, sampling new cuisines, performing and living together, buying souvenirs, visiting museums and attending cultural performances formed the group into its own type of unique family that keeps many of them reuniting to this day.What was it like to have someone to encourage you beyond your expectations?
