Brian Barder's Diplomatic Diary offers an insightful and entertaining glimpse of British foreign service life from ?one of the most energetic and politically committed diplomats of his generation? (The Guardian, 2017). Spanning two decades from the early 1970s, the diary takes us behind the scenes of Barder's career, from his first overseas posting in Moscow to his head-of-mission posts as ambassador to Ethiopia and Poland and high commissioner to Nigeria. We find him on the spot at moments of historical significance, whether playing cat-and-mouse with the KGB in Cold War Moscow, during the wave of tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions that anticipated those taking place today, or being a driving force behind the realisation of British relief efforts to Ethiopia during the nation's devastating mid-1980s famine. Along the way, he rubbed shoulders with some of the most iconic political and cultural figures of the day.

An accomplished writer, Barder authored a popular blog and his 2014 book, What Diplomats Do, was warmly received. The diary is compulsively readable and accessible, seasoned throughout with Barder's astute observations, evocative descriptions, and his characteristically sardonic wit.

Illustrator, musician and self-described “comic stripper” Brian Blomerth has spent years combining classic underground art styles with his bitingly irreverent visual wit in zines, comics, and album covers. With Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day, the artist has produced his most ambitious work to date: a historical account of the events of April 19, 1943, when Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann ingested an experimental dose of a new compound known as lysergic acid diethylamide and embarked on the world’s first acid trip. Combining an extraordinary true story told in journalistic detail with the artist’s gritty, timelessly Technicolor comix style, Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day is a testament to mind expansion and a stunningly original visual history.

Brian Blomerth first fused his singularly irreverent underground comix style with heavily-researched history in 2019’s Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day, a Technicolor retelling of the discovery of LSD. Now, the illustrator and graphic novelist continues his wild and woolly excursions into the history of mind expansion with Mycelium Wassonii, an account of the lives and trips of R. Gordon and Valentina Wasson, the pioneering scientist couple responsible for popularizing the use of psychedelic mushrooms. A globetrotting vision of hallucinatory science and religious mysticism with appearances by Life Magazine, the CIA, and the Buddha, Mycelium Wassonii is a visual history and a love story as only Blomerth’s Isograph pen can render it.

A visual biography of the infamous ketamine researcher John C. Lilly.Since 2019, graphic novelist Brian Blomerth’s stunningly original comix histories have combined detailed research and riotous visual wit to illuminate the discovery of LSD (in Brian Blomerth’s Bicycle Day) and the popularization of psilocybin mushrooms (in Brian Blomerth’s Mycelium Wassonii). Now, in the third entry in his ongoing series, Blomerth opens a porthole on the life, experiments, and addictions of John C. Lilly—the man whose development of the isolation tank, controversial studies in dolphin cognition, and ketamine-fueled dives into the nature of consciousness made him perhaps the most notorious researcher of the psychedelic era. Featuring alien visitations, interspecies encounters, and no shortage of concerned onlookers, Brian Blomerth’s Lilly Wave sees a beloved artist working from an expanded palette of industrial ink-splatter and oceanic airbrushing to bring readers a story that’s equal parts cosmic and paranoid, transcendent and tragic.

"Dan Wright's Brian Epstein Died for You is the evolution of the artist as a young man. In it, Wright explores the drunken moonlight of St. Louis nights, his own struggle to just get by, and just exactly how it is he came to be here. This is a collection that offers no easy answers, much like life itself." -John Dorsey, Author of Your Daughter's Country "Daniel W. Wright is one thing that's rare these days - a true original. His work connects on all the right levels and you will never be let down when you see his name on a cover. Christmas Wings for Brian: A heartwarming story of a little boy from Wilkes-Barre PA, whose shoulders kept growing
This story begins with a nineteen-month-old named Brian, who then grows up to be a special young man with special gifts above all others. His love of Christmas trains was only surpassed by his love of planes and all air vehicles. Superman had become his favorite airplane. Every year after Christmas, he saw the huge tree and everything else disappear. He would go to bed and when he would awaken, everything would be gone-the tree, the train, all the toys, the helicopters, the big and small panes at the tree platform airport. Worse than that, even the platform where everything was displayed was gone. But, the next year, it was back. Christmas was a great day every year and it stayed that way for days after so much so that it seemed like it would never end each and every year. After it was about to all go away at the end of just his second Christmas season, after a few days passed with all platform items gone, he got over it. That year, mom and dad took him for a special visit to a Christmas wizard who was also an angel. The wizard had a huge platform with trains and flying objects even though it was a few weeks after Christmas. It was before Brian had even turned two-years old. In this visit, he picked up more real information that a child his age should have been able to handle... Yet, he was able to manage the truth well, for over five years. Then, in his seventh year, when he reached the age of reason, he finally had figured out the Christmas mystery. No matter what, no longer was there any sadness at the end of the Christmas season. This year, like every other year, he was ready for it all to go away but the Christmas angel had told him "Fear Not " No longer did he care about going to sleep one particular night after Christmas, and poof, the morning would present a big void. It was his yearJust like he knew it would; it happened. This time, there was not an icicle or even a tiny piece of platform snow anywhere to make him think it was not just a silly dream-like how it was explained every other year. This year mom and dad knew that Brian knew the secret and he promised them he would not tell his younger brother and sister. Brian had grown; still loved Christmas; but was changed by the visit with the angel and this was the big year. On his seventh birthday, when he woke up, he got a big surprise. He did not know what it was all about but he had been assured that it would be good. For five years he had felt the muscular nubs in his back. A wizard had made a great prediction that the muscles in his back that seemed to be outgrowths of the scapula, could support huge wings. This discovery over time would become the most significant thing that would happen in Brian's life until the day his gifts were full grown. His story is what this book is all about. This is great family reading. A real family is highlighted in this fine uplifting story. Thank you for reading it. You can read this book to all your children and their friends and they will love it. Enjoy Have a great and magical day. I have a feeling that the tree, the toys, and the toot-toot and perhaps even more, will all be back next year if not sooner.

What Set Me Free (The Story That Inspired the Major Motion Picture Brian Banks)
*The story that inspired the film Brian Banks* Discover the unforgettable and inspiring true story of a young man who was wrongfully convicted as a teenager and imprisoned for more than five years, only to emerge with his spirit unbroken and determined to achieve his dream of playing in the NFL.At age sixteen, Brian Banks was a nationally recruited All-American Football player, ranked eleventh in the nation as a linebacker. Before his seventeenth birthday, he was in jail, awaiting trial for a heinous crime he did not commit. Although Brian was innocent, his attorney advised him that as a young black man accused of rape, he stood no chance of winning his case at trial. Especially since he would be tried as an adult. Facing a possible sentence of forty-one years to life, Brian agreed to take a plea deal—and a judge sentenced him to six years in prison. At first, Brian was filled with fear, rage, and anger as he reflected on the direction his life had turned and the unjust system that had imprisoned him. Brian was surrounded by darkness, until he had epiphany that would change his life forever. From that moment on, he made the choice to shed the bitterness and anger he felt, and focus only on the things he had the power to control. He approached his remaining years in prison with a newfound resolve, studying spirituality, improving his social and writing skills, and taking giant leaps on his journey toward enlightenment. When Brian emerged from prison with five years of parole still in front of him, he was determined to rebuild his life and finally prove his innocence. Three months before his parole was set to expire, armed with a shocking recantation from his accuser and the help of the California Innocence Project, the truth about his unjust incarceration came out and he was exonerated. Finally free, Brian sought to recapture a dream once stripped away: to play for the NFL. And at age twenty-eight, he made that dream come true. Perfect for fans of Just Mercy, I Beat the Odds, and Infinite Hope, this powerful memoir is a deep dive into the injustices of the American justice system, a soul-stirring celebration of the resilience of the human spirit, and an inspiring call to hold fast to our dreams.
