This work is the final available sermon compilation of Mr. Cawdrey. His first sermon is "The Saints Shall Judge the World," from Revelation 20:4, "And I saw seats, and they say upon them, and judgment was given unto them." It is so unique that a Christian may never hear it preached in today's modern age. His second sermon is on the topic of hypocrisy called, "A Close Hypocrite Discovered," from Luke 18:11, "God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican." His last sermon is against Antinomian sentiments called, "The Lawfulness of Doing Good out of Hope of Reward," springing from Hebrews 6:19. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

The Foundational Engineering Graphics: Principles and Applications material was developed by the collaborative work of multiple universities. The content is intended to encourage a deeper understanding of engineering graphics concepts with increased engagement to promote student mastery as well as self-efficacy. These materials provide enhanced relevanceof engineering graphics by demonstrating real-world examples of how engineering graphics can be applied. Through the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) project, online active learning modules were developed and integrated into introductory engineering graphics courses. Positive results of the active learning modules acting as a supplementalresource in the engineering graphics course led to the modules being transformed into a book format available to the public for use in building skills in engineering graphics. The 10 units available cover the foundational elements of sketching, engineering geometry, orthographic and pictorial projections, working drawings, the standardizations and annotations of dimensioning, assemblies, as well as section and auxiliary views. Along with content, each unit involves activities for practice in applying learned concepts, reflection questions for students to use in identifying examples seen in the world, as well as quiz questions for knowledge assessment.

For decades, the two-state solution has dominated efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, as a result of political and structural developments, that solution might no longer be feasible. RAND researchers used a novel focus group approach to assess which, if any, of five possible alternative futures in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be supported by Israelis and Palestinians.

A Scientific Search for Altruism

A Scientific Search for Altruism

C. Daniel Batson

sidottu
For centuries, the egoism-altruism debate has echoed through Western thought. Egoism says that the motivation for everything we do, including our seemingly selfless acts of care for others, is to gain one or another self-benefit. Altruism, while not denying the force of self-interest, says that under certain circumstances we can care for others for their sakes, not our own. Over the past half-century, social psychologists have turned to laboratory experiments on humans to provide a scientific resolution of this debate about our nature. The experiments have focused on the possibility that empathic concern-other-oriented emotion elicited by and congruent with the perceived welfare of someone in need-produces altruistic motivation to remove that need. With carefully constructed experimental designs, these scientists have tested the nature of the motivation produced by empathic concern, determining whether it is egoistic or altruistic and, thereby, providing an answer to a fundamental question about what makes us tick. Framed as a detective story, this book traces the scientific search for altruism through numerous studies and attempts to examine various motivational suspects, reaching the improbable conclusion that empathy-induced altruism is indeed part of our nature. The book then considers the implications of this conclusion both for our understanding of who we are as humans (the bad news as well as the good) and for how we might create a more humane society.
