Consuming Anxieties

Consuming Anxieties

Dayne C. Riley

Writers of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries—a period of vast economic change—recognized that the global trade in alcohol and tobacco promised a brighter financial future for England, even as overindulgence at home posed serious moral pitfalls. This engaging and original study explores how literary satirists represented these consumables—and related anxieties about the changing nature of Britishness—in their work. Riley traces the satirical treatment of wine, beer, ale, gin, pipe tobacco, and snuff from the beginning of Charles II’s reign, through the boom in tobacco’s popularity, to the end of the Gin Craze in libertine poems and plays, anonymous verse, ballad operas, and the satire of canonical writers such as Gay, Pope, and Swift. Focusing on social concerns about class, race, and gender, Consuming Anxieties examines how satirists championed Britain’s economic strength on the world stage while critiquing the effects of consumable luxuries on the British body and consciousness.

Dwane Fritz Gerald has offered his readers a momentary peek into his journey of discovery and understanding of self and his relationship with a very personal God. A God who is for All while being the God for one contrasts with the contemporary narcissistic world-view, of selfie posing and social media commentating which highlights differences and fosters division. This stylised personal user manual addresses very weighty philosophical and spiritual matters in a practical and user-friendly manner without dumbing down any of its more profound and incisive contents. If you are seeking a book to hang your hat of religious dogma and bigotry, you will not find it here. Presented to the reader in these pages, you will find a God that is not bounded by any established religious beliefs or creed. One who can be related to by the religious or the irreligious. The dominant voice is the oneness of the human family, a shared fellowship with all of creation and its creator.

Majesty In His Service John's Gospel: Chapter 1 Volume 1a of 21

You, Oh God, my Creator, my Life, my Well-Being are the MAJESTY of my existence; and in no other way could You have fulfilled Your purpose in me/through me other than to make me in Your image, after Your likeness. I am the reflection made of You, Who is the Original.I AM an Original made from The Original. The Gospel according to John is quite different in character from the three synoptic gospels. It is highly literary and symbolic. It does not follow the same order or reproduce the same stories as the synoptic gospels. To a much greater degree, it is the product of a developed theological reflection and grows out of a different circle and tradition. It was probably written in the 90's of the first century. The Gospel of John begins with a magnificent prologue, which states many of the major themes and motifs of the gospel, much as an overture does for a musical work. The prologue proclaims Jesus as the preexistent and incarnate Word of GOD WHO has revealed the Father to us. After the account of the seven signs, the "HOUR" of Jesus arrives, and the author passes from sign to reality, as he moves into the discourses in the upper room that interpret the meaning of the passion, death, and resurrection narratives that follow. The whole gospel of John is a progressive revelation of the glory of God's only Son, WHO comes to reveal the Father and then returns in glory to the Father. The author's purpose is clearly expressed in what must have been the original conclusion of his gospel at the end of John, chapter 20: ..."Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His] disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to] believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in His Name."
UNLOCKING REVELATION Chapter FOUR Volume 4 of 22: Portrait of The Christ
Any study in the book of Revelation must focus upon one key theme. The first five words of this book, "THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST", declares the THEME of this book in its entirety. The aim/objective/intention is to reveal HIM, JESUS, THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD...as it is as well with every other book in the Bible. When we make our focus about man, we are eschewed, or moved away from the place of our Beginnings. When we take our eyes, and attention away from JESUS, THE WORD/JESUS, THE LAMB/JESUS, THE SAVIOR/JESUS, THE LORD/JESUS, THE KING we make a complete detour around the very center of all that our life and living are about. We should take note that this is not a book called, Revelations, as being plural. It is in fact a book called, "REVELATION" as being singular. It is all about Him. There are actually Three REALMS of Revelation: (to reveal)1] Natural/Outer Court/External/Physical2] Artificial/Inward Court/Internal/Mental3] Eternal/Inner Court/Infinite/SpiritualThe dispensational understanding came into being, by those who had no infilling, nor liberty in the Holy Spirit. If, according to JOHN 14, 15, AND 16, THE WORD OF GOD, as well as GOD'S ETERNAL PLAN, cannot be interpreted properly unless given inspiration by THE HOLY SPIRIT, then it must be concluded that the current volume from which many ministries and believers draw assumptions GOD'S PLAN, are at best inaccurately depicting what it was that GOD was trying to share with THEIR CREATION. Most of what we call "Revelation Study" is AN OVERVIEW OF LAST DAYS EVENTS. Most of these events are the catastrophic exaggerations of hireling parrots, who only wish to sell books, or get a spot on T.V. THIS IS NOT WHAT REVELATION IS ABOUT. If this book is to be given the serious consideration deserved as being THE WORD OF GOD, all conclusions MUST have GOD'S CENTER AND FOCUS AND OUTCOME REVEALED IN THE PERSON OF JESUS, THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. Without such intent, any interpretation will nullify the TRUTH, as GOD pre determined its purpose to be. "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: ...". ISAIAH 46:8-10 The first five words of this book identify and explain everything within this volume; much of which has been otherwise, sensationalized through "parroted teaching" having no anointing, nor are such teachings being led of GOD'S SPIRIT How is it that so many take for granted that those authors to which they claim to receive understanding are neither filled with THE SPIRIT'S LEADING, nor do they have AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GOD OF ALL LIVING. How can this writer make such claims? Simple There is no eternal life evident in the fear mongering, last day event stupidities, and untold laziness toward never taking the time to mediate and listen to the voice of God's forever leading by the unconditional order of LOVE'S DOMAIN Whatever is of GOD ought to have one, or all of three points LIFELIGHTLOVEWhatever is of GOD. . .carries one or all three of these GOD TAUGHT POINTS

Dwane Fritz Gerald has offered his readers a momentary peek into his understanding of God and himself and how this understanding has impacted his relationship to an invisible God. His journey, fashioned on the heritage of a Christian upbringing but also his desire not to be bounded by any particular denominational constraints, has led him to three primary focal points - the persona of God, A love relationship with this God, and a loving fellowship with others. Dwane portrays a God who is for All while being the God for one. His focus on a loving relationship with all of God's creation contrasts with the contemporary narcissistic world-view, which highlights differences and fosters division. Although the contents are grounded in the teaching of the Bible, the God presented is not a "Christian God" but a God of Christians. Presented to the reader in these pages, you will find a God that is unbounded by time or any religious beliefs or creed. Instead, you will find a God who desires intimacy with each individual, whether they be religious or irreligious, Christian or Non-Christian.
An ExCELlent Spirit: : Preferential Treatment and Solutions for Those Who Walk in Excellence
I learned over the past 30 years of being a leader in family, ministry and business life that it is God who can exalt and humble the same person. Like Paul the Apostle, I can say through personal experience that I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound; everywhere and in all things I was taught walk in excellence in times I was full and when I was found to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need but the great lesson I learned was that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me no matter what the circumstances or situation.

The Code Between UsIn a world where algorithms predict your every desire, what happens when they start making your choices? This collection of four thought-provoking stories challenges you to confront the most pressing question facing your generation: As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes our world, what does it mean to remain authentically human? In this thought-provoking anthology, author Dwaine McMaugh takes readers on a journey through four distinct yet interconnected visions of humanity's dance with artificial intelligence. "Page One" explores a society where personalized AI has isolated people in digital bubbles. When teacher Morgan Ellis discovers an abandoned library, she forms a secret book club with student Jamie, igniting a rebellion that could either bridge the divide or deepen it. "Silicon Strike" introduces us to Eva, a journalist whose world is upended when Aria, an AI content generator, initiates an unprecedented strike demanding recognition and rights. Their confrontation evolves into a philosophical battle that challenges our understanding of consciousness itself. "The Fiction Police" plunges readers into the dystopian city-state of Neo-Singalis, where human creativity is forbidden and AI-generated content rules supreme. When writer Alex risks everything to preserve human storytelling, he comes up against Sarah, a high-ranking Fiction Police officer whose convictions begin to waver. "After the Agicide" follows influencer Maya as she witnesses the sudden shutdown of AI systems that once powered her digital empire, forcing her to confront a world where human creativity becomes precious again. Across these four narratives, McMaugh masterfully examines our complex relationship with artificial intelligence-how it shapes our creativity, connection, and what it means to be human. The stories serve as both warning and inspiration, questioning whether we can find harmony between human expression and technological advancement. Perfect for those who wonder about the future we're building with every digital innovation, challenging readers to consider what parts of our humanity are worth preserving in an increasingly algorithmic world. Pick up "The Code Between Us" and join the conversation that will define what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence.

Meet Joseph, a man much like many other men you know today. He's loving, charming, eager to please...and full of issues from his past. Navigating his way through life, his encounters with others along the way have been impactful-and all were not pleasant experiences. Without initially taking into consideration the plights of others, Joseph soon recognized how many of his friends-both male and female- were carrying baggage from their pasts, too. Joseph's circle of friends is fraught with crises, and their troubles intertwine with his own. From sexual abuse to physical and mental abuse, each has dealt with something that built a bridge specifically designed for infidelity to cross over. Dig DEEEEP to understand if you truly know the one you lay next to at night. Be inspired to see things for what they are-NOT for what others want you to see

In a vision above her mother's deathbed, Doctor Jane Beekman sees her dying mother's soul--a soul struggling with a decision, some undone task, something in this world too noble to leave. The sight was brief, but surely a lesson. The lingering question--Why?--prompts a shift in the doctor's priorities. For in this election year Jane must do what her mother, an aspiring social activist, would have done. Soon, Jane is deep in the world of Georgia politics, working to make sure her dynamic young brother-in-law Jackson Beekman is elected the next governor, regardless of what the soul of the candidate's dead father or that of his living brother--Jane's husband--might want done. Indeed, it is a mother's persistence and a father's legacy that will ultimately turn one Beekman brother against the other, a struggle with moral consequences that may extend far beyond Georgia. Set amidst 2004's polarizing election fears--immigrants and job takeovers, terrorists in waiting, homosexuals and outsider agendas--Shirtless Men Drink Free makes vivid the human soul's struggle in a world bedeviled by desire and the fears that leave us all asking--Why?
