Theological Work of Gregory of Nyssa and Renovation of Theology Today: Conceptual Framework from de Vita Moysis and in Canticum Canticorum
Theology as an exercise in continual renovation must be renewed permanently from its sources and in dialogue with the signs of the times. In this regard, Balthasar said that the principal problem of contemporary theology was the separation of theology and spirituality. Two aspects that was united in the thinking of the Fathers of the church. This work shows this problem in contemporary theology, especially in Latin American context and builds a bridge with the Christian eastern tradition present in Gregory of Nyssa. From an analysis of the Homilies on the Song of Songs and the Life of Moses, the research seeks to prove the possibility of understanding the theological work of Gregory in the conceptual framework of the categories μυστήριον, μυσταγωγία, μυστικά, γν φος, ἀκολουθία and ἐπέκτασι&#962 - categories that could allow a synthesis between theology and spirituality and could be a contribution to the renovation of theology today.

The study shows the reception of the views of Pseudo-Dionysius Areopagite by Gregory Palamas. The author presents the doctrinal context of Palamas' dispute with Barlaam from Calabria on the possibility of knowing God, the most important issue in 14th-century Byzantium. The author distances herself from many previous interpretations of this problem. She proves that, considering how much Palamas succumbed or did not succumb to the Areopagite or “corrected” his position, he has a very weak doctrinal basis. The author notices that over-emphasizing Dionysius' dependence on the Neoplatonic tradition does not lead to a solution to the problem. Palamas' teachings are placed in the context of the traditions of the Christian East and their relation to the thoughts of the Areopagite himself.

Inhaltlich unver nderte Neuauflage.

Human Nature in Gregory of Nyssa: Philosophical Background and Theological Significance
This volume explores Gregory Of Nyssa's concept of human nature. It argues that the frequent use Gregory makes of phusis-terminology is not only a terminological predilection, but rather the key to the philosophical and theological foundations of his thought.Starting from an overview of the theological landscape in the early 360's the study first demonstrates the meaning and relevance of universal human nature as an analogy for the Trinity in Cappadocian theology. The second part explores Gregory's use of this same notion in his teaching on the divine economy. It is argued that Gregory takes this philosophical theory into the service of his own theology.Ultimately the book provides an example for the mutual interaction of philosophy and Christian theology in the fourth century.

Epistle to Gregory and Origen's Commentary on the Gospel of John
At Alexandria his expositions took place in the school, but at C sarea they formed part of the church services, so that the reports of those belonging to the C sarean period provide us with the earliest examples we possess of the discourse at Christian meetings. In an activity which he practiced so much Origen acquired extraordinary skill and facility, and gained the highest reputation, even beyond the limits of the Church. It is no wonder, therefore, if he succeeded in treating nearly the whole Bible in this way, a thing which might no doubt be said of many a Christian teacher since his day; for he was not one who was apt to repeat himself, but was constantly pressing on to break new ground.

A Companion to Gregory the Great
What made Pope Gregory I “great”? If the Middle Ages had no difficulty recognizing Gregory as one of its most authoritative points of reference, modern readers have not always found this question as easy to answer. As with any great figure, however, there are two sides to Gregory – the historical and the universal. The contributors to this handbook look at Gregory’s “greatness” from both of these angles: what made Gregory stand out among his contemporaries; and what is unique about Gregory’s contribution through his many written works to the development of human thought and described human experience. Contributors include: Jane Baun, Philip Booth, Matthew Dal Santo, Scott DeGregorio, George E. Demacopoulos, Bernard Green, Ann Kuzdale, Stephen Lake, Andrew Louth, Constant J. Mews, John Moorhead, Barbara Müller, Bronwen Neil, Richard M. Pollard, Claire Renkin, Cristina Ricci, and Carole Straw.
