Fort Harllee was established and constructed at latitude 79 deg. 50 min., longitude 81 deg. 40 min., on March 18, 1835 under the direction of Major William W. Harl1ee of the South Carolina Volunteers, serving in Florida. He had visited the site the previous year and had erected picket walls with two substantial blockhouses, one on each diagonal comer. When it was built it was therefore named in his honor. He also served as its first commander. Fort Harllee was built primarily for the protection of early settlers in the area from marauding Seminoles and situated between Garey's Ferry at Middleburg and Newnansville, which would later become Alachua's first county seat. It was located on the north bank of the Santa Fe River at a point where the Black Creek to Newnansville Road crossed the river; just south of Hampton's Lake. When an alarm was given of impending Indian attack, settlers would all gather in and around the fort for protection.

Florida's Lost Archaic Indian Mounds
Indian artifact collecting is a hobby enjoyed by thousands of people and it goes a long way in helping to preserve artifacts from history that might never be found otherwise. It is illegal to dig for artifacts without a landowner's permission, or on state-owned and controlled lands or submerged lands. The Florida Division of Historical Resources, Bureau of Archaeological Research does have the ability to grant permission to conduct archaeological investigations: but it is seldom done except for professionals. To obtain an archaeological research permit, you or someone in your organization must have professional archaeological expertise that meets the "Qualifications for Recognition as a Professional Archaeologist' of the Register of Professional Archaeologists. In spite of all this, you can use the accompanying copies of a Florida Site File form and use it to your advantage; even if only providing a history of and improving the value of a collection.

The St Helena Penal Establishment was situated on a small Island in Moreton Bay, some 5 km from the mouth of the Brisbane River, covered approximately 88 hectares above the high water line and was one of the loveliest islands in the bay. The elevated tableland on which the prison was built looked like a large rugged block of ruby and emerald rising out of the sea. Its steep chocolate brown patches of rich soil, bordered with green fields of cultivation and bases of grass and shimmering sand provided a striking first picture of the island. It has had a fascinating history from the time it was first discovered; but its most important period began when it became a high-security colonial prison in 1867. The overcrowding of Brisbane's gaols resulted in the conversion of buildings originally intended for a quarantine station on St. Helena Island, into accommodations for prisoners convicted for a wide variety of crimes.

The end of the Cold War brought challenges not only for practitioners of national security policy and strategy but for those involved in the education and development of future strategic leaders and security policy practitioners. One of the primary contributors to this book, Professor James M. Smith of the U.S. Air Force Academy, launched this project in initial conversations in 1996-97 with Brigadier General Daniel J. Kaufman of the U.S. Military Academy, Dr. Robert L. Wendzel of the Air War College, and Colonel Jeffrey D. McCausland of the U.S. Army War College. All four shared a concern about the future of security studies generally, but especially about the education and development of military officers as future strategic leaders.

Seven minutes past midnight on 9 March 1945, nearly 300 American B-29s thundered into the skies over Tokyo. Their payloads of incendiaries ignited a more than 1,800-degree firestorm that liquefied asphalt and vaporised thousands; sixteen square miles of the city were flattened and more than 100,000 men, women and children were killed. Black Snow is the story of this devastating operation, orchestrated by Major General Curtis LeMay, who famously remarked: “If we lose, we’ll be tried as war criminals”. James M. Scott reconstructs in granular detail that horrific night, and describes the development of the B-29, the capture of the Marianas for use as airfields and the change in strategy from high-altitude daylight “precision” bombing to low-altitude nighttime incendiary bombing. Most importantly, the raid represented a significant moral shift for America, marking the first time commanders deliberately targeted civilians—which helped pave the way for the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki five months later.

Seven minutes past midnight on March 10, 1945, nearly 300 American B-29s thundered into the skies over Tokyo. Their payloads of incendiaries ignited a firestorm that reached up to 2,800 degrees, liquefying asphalt and vaporising thousands; sixteen square miles of the city were flattened and more than 100,000 men, women, and children were killed. Black Snow is the story of this devastating operation, orchestrated by Major General Curtis LeMay, who famously remarked: “If we lose the war, we’ll be tried as war criminals". James M. Drawing on first-person interviews with American pilots and bombardiers and Japanese survivors, air force archives and oral histories never before published in English, Scott delivers a harrowing and gripping account, and his most important and compelling work to date.

But Vesuvius was an active volcano, and within twenty-four hours of its eruption, the city was destroyed. Hundreds of years later, archaeologists unearthed what was buried under the rubble. The most unexpected and extraordinary discovery? The imprints of Pompeiians, their deaths captured as if by photographic images in volcanic ash.

This book was started in 2005, the first of which published in 2007, and predicted the financial collapse of 2008-09. Two further books were published and this represents a merger of all three and the finale of the series or investigation into the state of our union by an interested citizen. It is written to give the citizens of the nation a heads up on what is going on. This book is intended as a thought provoking work of fiction with a sense of reality to current events. The United States is in the process of entering a NEW ERA and one that we may not be happy with. Reality is emphasized with charts and figures on the present state of our nation financially and economically with projections that are also realistic. It will make you think about what is happening in the US, what could happen, and what you might consider doing to take care of yourself and your family. The current European crisis with an emphasis on Greece is a model of what could eventually happen in the United States.

For Jack Nelson's birthday his parents decided he needed to become worldlier than spending his life in a fifteen mile area. They insisted he travel from the Midwest to California to see the ocean. Jack's father stressed to him he could consider himself very successful if he made the trip without people remembering his name. The first time he was asked his name on his trip he remembered his father's statement. He used the alias Cowboy. He never imagined, under this alias, he would become famous throughout the west as a gunfighter. When he saved an Indian boy from drowning, the Indian Nation considered him as a white medicine man sent by the Great Spirit. Jack reached the ocean and returned home, but not until he encountered a back shooter, and discovered love. No one knew his real name, but everyone knew the names Cowboy and Candy Man.
Bible Insight through Poems and Commentary
Have you read Genesis from the perspective of a person approaching earth from space? Have you considered why Mars now has so little water? Two poems in this book look at these matters from a biblical and science perspective. Poems and commentary in this book discuss time, science, Bible prophecy and Biblically historical people. Some poems look at the amazing growth and development of modern Israel. God has truly blessed the world through the Jewish people obviously including the Messiah, Jesus, but also through the numerous Nobel prize-winning scientists who have changed the world. The Bible is filled with teachings to serve others. Many poems are about volunteer work serving others. The little work each volunteer does often makes a big impact on the life of others. Over sixty poems with commentary are presented in this book. These poems are simple but tell a powerful message about God and his love for man and provide an interesting way to study the Bible.
