Barbarossa Derailed: The Battle for Smolensk 10 July-10 September 1941 Volume 3
Volume 3, the Documentary Companion to Barbarossa Derailed, contains the documentary evidence for the two volumes of narrative. In addition to key F hrer Directives issued by Adolf Hitler to provide direction to his forces during the Barbarossa Campaign, as well as vital orders issued by German Army Group Center, this book includes the daily operational summaries of the participating Soviet fronts, armies, and some divisions and many if not most of the orders and reports issued by the struggling Soviet armies. Precise translations illustrate not only the capabilities and states-of-mind of key Soviet commanders as they dealt with crisis after crisis but also the characteristics (such as aggressiveness, passivity, brutality, and despair) of their varied styles of command. They also demonstrate how an army, which lost the bulk of its experienced troops during the first several months of the campaign, attempted to use its operational directives and tactical orders to educate its soldiers and officers in the basics of waging war in the midst of active and bloody operations.
Barbarossa Derailed: The Battle for Smolensk 10 July-10 September 1941 Volume 4
At dawn on 10 July 1941, massed tanks and motorized infantry of German Army Group Center's Second and Third Panzer Groups crossed the Dnepr and Western Dvina Rivers, beginning what Adolf Hitler, the Fuhrer of Germany's Third Reich, and most German officers and soldiers believed would be a triumphal march on Moscow, the capital of the Soviet Union. Less than three weeks before, on 22 June Hitler had unleashed his Wehrmacht's massive invasion of the Soviet Union code-named Operation Barbarossa, which sought to defeat the Soviet Union's Red Army, conquer the country, and unseat its Communist ruler, Josef Stalin. Between 22 June and 10 July, the Wehrmacht advanced up to 500 kilometers into Soviet territory, killed or captured up to one million Red Army soldiers, and reached the western banks of the Western Dvina and Dnepr Rivers, by doing so satisfying the premier assumption of Plan Barbarossa that the Third Reich would emerge victorious if it could defeat and destroy the bulk of the Red Army before it withdrew to safely behind those two rivers. With the Red Army now shattered, Hitler and most Germans expected total victory in a matter of weeks. The ensuing battles in the Smolensk region frustrated German hopes for quick victory. Once across the Dvina and Dnepr Rivers, a surprised Wehrmacht encountered five fresh Soviet armies. Despite destroying two of these armies outright, severely damaging two others, and encircling the remnants of three of these armies in the Smolensk region, quick victory eluded the Germans. Instead, Soviet forces encircled in Mogilev and Smolensk stubbornly refused to surrender, and while they fought on, during July, August, and into early September, first five and then a total of seven newly-mobilized Soviet armies struck back viciously at the advancing Germans, conducting multiple counterattacks and counterstrokes, capped by two major counteroffensives that sapped German strength and will. Despite immense losses in men and materiel, these desperate Soviet actions derailed Operation Barbarossa. Smarting from countless wounds inflicted on his vaunted Wehrmacht, even before the fighting ended in the Smolensk region, Hitler postponed his march on Moscow and instead turned his forces southward to engage 'softer targets' in the Kiev region. The 'derailment' of the Wehrmacht at Smolensk ultimately became the crucial turning point in Operation Barbarossa. Serving as both a companion to the previous three text volumes in this monumental study, and as a standalone battlefield atlas, this volume provides over one hundred specially-commissioned color maps that trace the course of the campaign, each accompanied by a detailed caption.

Foreword: Welcome to the 79th volume of The Year of the Poet brought to you by the Inner Child Press Poetry Posse plus a few featured friends. Within the microcosm of peace and Nobel Peace Prize winners, this month we turn our attention to sustainability, a green revolution that has been building for a long time. We amplify the voice of one man who wanted to see each person feed. We ask ourselves how we can help sustain the world, not just those who are rich, those who are in urban environments, or just those in rural farms, and we are still looking for answers 79 or so years after Norman Borlaug started helping Mexico become self-sufficient in wheat. An American born in 1914, Borlaug won the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize. His goal was to strike a balance between population growth and food production―creating enough food to sustain everyone's dreams and ambitions. Borlaug's success in Mexico made him a much sought-after adviser especially in South American and Asian countries where food production was not keeping pace with population growth. As poets we use our creativity, awareness, and pens to bring both peace and sustainability to the world. With enough creativity to find solutions that have been overlooked, spreading the word about the possibility for greatness in a world where every child is nourished, we bringing consciousness through sharing our thoughts, listening to those around us, and reflecting back our community wisdom. In a diverse environment many great ideas can thrive, grow, and be amplified by those who listen and see the beauty in diversity and sustainability for all. A pen, a computer, letters on a sheet of paper, we say are mightier than the sword. We lay down our swords to write, think and pray for a spark that will ignite a generation bringing peace and justice to the darkness.Peace can grow and hunger subside when each person's contribution matters, is seen and valued. As you read these poems listen to the cacophony of voices they represent, not because we few are representative of all but because we each grow in different environments, learn unusual things and listen to those in our diverse communities. Our words reflect our love of one person, a community, the natural world, or an idea. As we put pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard, we seek to create a world in which each voice is valued, and each person is nurtured. All this while, still realizing that we live in a world where we have the power to amplify certain voices and affirm: Black Lives Matter.Kimberly Burnham, Spokane, WA

ForewordOnly a single birdis singingThe air is cloning it.We hear through mirrors. Federico Garcia Lorca This month's theme is Africa and Horn Africa. Africa and Horn Africa are the mirrors of singing birds, flora and fauna, cultural prominence, collective life, social translators of ethnic groups those who grow with the nature. The inhabitants are the crisis manager of all adversities and the echo of their brave History . Africa is a continent but Horn Africa is a peninsula in Northeast Africa. It extends hundreds of kilometres into the Arabian sea and lies along the Southern side of the Gulf of Eden .The area is the easternmost projection of the African Continent. The countries and territories included are Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia. The people of the Horn Africa are subdivided into six people clusters; Beja, Cushitic, Ethio-Semitic, Omotic, Oromo and Somalia. Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa bordered by Ethiopia to the West, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the North, the Somali Sea, Guardafui Channel to the east and Kenya to the South East. The Horn Africa enjoys an excellent strategic location south west of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Its location on one side of some of the world's major trade lanes and land route gives it vital importance because of its proximity to the oil reach Arabian Peninsula. Part of the Horn Africa is also known as the Somali Peninsula. Mostly mountainous, the region arose through faults resulting from the rift valley. Agriculture is the single most important activity in Africa. We cannot overlook the tradition, the nativism, the culture and the contribution of Africa and horn Africa for the generations. Nativism is a celebration of the pluralism that is the very core tune of Africa and Horn Africa. Somalia is known to the Egyptians as the Land of Punt. Punt was famous for frankincense and myrrh. Around 100 Somali Diaspora communities exist across the West, which actively are engaged in thousands of Civil associations. Lake Assal is a saline lake below sea level making it the lowest point on the land of the Horn of Africa. Some farming knowledge passed down from generation to generation has become obsolete. Drought crippled the region. People struggle to recover from the natural calamity. Inner Child Press International(R) with its mission of building bridges of cultural understanding takes the responsibility for global peace and harmony through poetry with International festivals and Anthologies. We respect the land, nature, folk tales, culture, music, literature, perceptions, ideas, thoughts, language and all ethnic groups of the world.Poetry is the living nature and nature is the living poetry. We respect the humanity ...We respect the survival skills. We respect the indigenous knowledge.Let us join our hands for peace ....Swapna Behera Cultural Ambassador of India and south East Asia for Inner Child Press International

There are very few (if any) books available for young teens and preteens from the ages of 10-15, that relate directly to them and their needs from a biblical perspective. It takes those difficult issues for young teens to understand, like prayers not answered or lack of communication with parents, and applies God's word for them. It's a book for their level of maturity written primarily for their age group focusing totally on question and problems in their lives with useful God-inspired answers. This book will teach young teens right from wrong with a biblical stance on tough issues that would make even adults cringe. This book could become a source of enlightenment for the student and an answered prayer for the adult.

Brigadier General Basil Duke made it quite clear on page 300 of the 1906 edition of his "History of Morgan's Cavalry" that Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan started his Indiana-Ohio Raid in July 1863 with a pair of three inch Parrott Rifles and a pair of twelve pound howitzers. He also stated that the two Parrott Rifles were attached to the first brigade and the two twelve pound howitzers were attached to the second brigade. We will follow these four cannon, and the cannon General Morgan captured at Morvins Landing, Indiana, through the Indiana-Ohio Raid.

This book examines public discussions around France's four most prominent royal women during the first and second Restoration and July Monarchy: the duchesse d’Angoulême, the duchesse de Berry, Queen of the French Marie-Amélie, and Adélaïde d’Orléans. These were the most powerful women of the last decades of the French monarchy, but the new roles women were assigned in post-revolutionary France did not permit them to openly exercise political influence. This book explores continuities and variations in narratives of royal legitimacy, and how historians, authors, and politicians used national history - particularly medieval and early modern history - to either legitimize or undermine the French monarchy, and to define women's social and political roles.
