Kesä on saanut kummankin unohtamaan syksyn haasteista ensimmäisen: Balettikilpailun, jonka karsintoihin koulu ilmoittaa oppilaansa. Tuittupäinen Laura kimmastuu pas de deux-osion partnerivalinnoista yleensä ja nykytanssiosion tehtävävalinnasta erikseen: Äiti kun kehtaa nauraa ajatukselle, että Laura esittäisi kilpailussa äidin varhaisteoksen! Tutussa koulussa nuoria odottavat opiskelutoverit iloineen, murheineen, loukkaantumisineen, salaisuuksineen. Opettajakunnan vaihdokset tuovat kouluun tuulahduksen koulukuntaeroista, joihin törmääminen muistuttaa Lauran kohdalla äänivallin murtamista. Lauran onneksi kärsivällinen Sara jaksaa pidellä häntä hihasta: Jokaista ajatustaan ei kannata pamauttaa opettajalle vasten kasvoja. Nuorten keskinäinen kiintymys syvenee, ja kummankin syksy saa riemukkaan lopun. Tanssiosuuksien tarkastamisesta kiitos tanssija, tanssipedagogi Mia Nir-hamolle.

The experience of visiting Rocky Ridge Farm is probably why I still enjoy museums to this day. It wasn't the souvenirs in the gift shop that interested me - it was being able to walk across the same floors as Laura and Almanzo, to look out of the same windows of their house and see the views they saw, and to actually lay eyes on the desk where she wrote the Little House books. For someone wanting to become a writer when he grew up, it showed me a connection between a real person and a place, and the world she created to share with the entire world through writing. - Gregory White
The Life and Adventures of Trobadora Beatrice As Chronicled by Her Minstrel Laura
Set in the German Democratic Republic of the early 1970s, The Life and Adventures of Trobadora Beatrice—a landmark novel now translated into English for the first time—is a highly entertaining adventure story as well as a feminist critique of GDR socialism, science, history, and aesthetic theory. In May 1968, after an eight-hundred-year sleep, Beatrice awakens in her Provence château. Looking for work, she makes her way to Paris in the aftermath of the student uprisings, then to the GDR (recommended to her as the "promised land for women"), where she meets Laura Salman, socialist trolley driver, writer, and single mother, who becomes her minstrel and alter ego. Their exploits—Beatrice on a quest to find the unicorn, Laura on maternity leave in Berlin—often require black-magic interventions by the Beautiful Melusine, who is half dragon and half woman.Creating a montage of genres and text types, including documentary material, poems, fairy tales, interviews, letters, newspaper reports, theoretical texts, excerpts from earlier books of her own, pieces by other writers, and parodies of typical GDR genres, Irmtraud Morgner attempts to write women into history and retell our great myths from a feminist perspective.

This study examines the crime of femicide in the Latin American context in the novels of Diego Z iga (Chile), Laura Restrepo (Colombia), and Fernanda Melchor (Mexico). It reveals how these literary texts shed light on the systematic and intersectional dimensions of femicide and its impunity. Analyses of the novels draw out the ambivalences of juristic frameworks and legal practice.

Language and the Renewal of Society in Walt Whitman, Laura (Riding) Jackson, and Charles Olson
This book takes up the utopian desire for a perfect language of words that give direct expression to the real, known in Western thought as Cratylism, and its impact on the social visions and poetic projects of three of the most intellectually ambitious of American writers: Walt Whitman, Laura (Riding) Jackson, and Charles Olson.
The Pursuit of Love; Love in a Cold Climate: Introduction by Laura Thompson
A hardcover omnibus of the comic masterpieces that made Nancy Mitford famous: madcap tales of growing up among the privileged and eccentric in England and finding love in all the wrong places. Nancy Mitford modeled the characters in her two best-known novels on her own famously unconventional family. We are introduced to the Radletts through the eyes of their cousin Fanny, visiting their Gloucestershire estate. Uncle Matthew is the blustering patriarch, known to hunt his children when foxes are scarce; Aunt Sadie is the vague but doting mother; and the seven Radlett children are recklessly eager to grow up. The Pursuit of Love follows the travails of Linda, the most beautiful and wayward Radlett daughter, who falls first for a stuffy Tory politician, then an ardent communist, and finally a French duke named Fabrice. Love in a Cold Climate focuses on Polly Hampton, long groomed for the perfect marriage by her fearsome mother, Lady Montdore, but secretly determined to find her own path. Together these hilarious novels vividly evoke the lost glamour of aristocratic life in England between the wars. Everyman's Library pursues the highest production standards, printing on acid-free cream-colored paper, with full-cloth cases with two-color foil stamping, decorative endpapers, silk ribbon markers, European-style half-round spines, and a full-color illustrated jacket.
