Michèle Alexandre’s innovative study examines how sexual profiling represses, oppresses, and hinders various aspects of life for both genders, and explores the ways in which the law and the community can help eradicate the practice of sexual profiling. Alexandre defines "sexploitation" as the perpetuation of myths and stereotypical notions regarding men and women in order to further an agenda of oppression and subordination in certain spheres of society. The most popular means through which this sexploitation is achieved is through a method Alexandre coins as "sexual profiling." She argues that sexual profiling ultimately stifles the growth of our society by creating inefficient as well as oppressive systems, and that its eradication can help increase the productivity as well as the morale of society. Alexandre opens the book by exploring in detail the various ways in which normative views of gender are constructed and perpetuated through media and societal norms. She then focuses on the ways in which recent legal opinions and developments contribute to perpetuate these restrictive and oppressive norms. Finally, Alexandre outlines a plan to help eliminate the presence of these destructive norms and attitudes from different sectors of society.

Marketing Palliative Careexplores what happens when marketing is confronted with dying. Drawing on a decade of ethnographic research in palliative contexts across Switzerland, Italy, and the United States, the book unfolds a radical question: can marketing grasp dying? Can it offer not only tools, but a language for societies to relate to finitude? Through the case study of a COVID-designated hospital in Locarno, the conceptualization of the temporal consumer, and the unveiling of palliative clearings, this monograph develops a new epistemology of marketing at the threshold of life. Palliative clearings are proposed as fragile temporal spaces where care, consumption, and dying converge, opening a poetic vocabulary for fragility and compassion. Methodologically, the book advances an ethnography of dying, grounded in reflexivity and poetic inquiry. Theoretically, it reimagines the consumer as a temporal being shaped by mortality. Practically, it introduces the figures of the experiential assistant, the brand healer, and the healing brand as ways of translating compassion into organizational life and society. Bridging marketing, medical humanities, and palliative care, Marketing Palliative Care will speak to scholars, healthcare professionals, and all those seeking a vocabulary for dying in market society.

A top mental health writer, trauma researcher, and survivor illuminates the dual nature of loss-the science behind it and art of transforming it with a breakthrough book and truly holistic approach. After experiencing two rare heart attacks at the age of 33-and a third a decade later, DeMarco knows trauma intimately. Trauma breaks your relationship with time by upending your expectations, fracturing your memories and identity, and destroying your innocence. With poignant wisdom and refreshing insight DeMarco explodes traditional myths of resilience and shows what it takes to thrive through any of life's challenges. DeMarco situates meaningful challenge and loss specifically in the context of lost innocence, and challenges common notions that we can think our way out of despair and back to a normal happy life when the unimaginable shatters it. Leveraging advances in emotion science, somatic psychology, neuroscience, and trauma, Holding Onto Air brings the body and spirit into the solution, as much as the mind, and so presents a truly integrated, whole person approach to recovering from lost innocence and building resilience. It also makes spirit accessible for anyone of any background or belief-or no aligned belief.More than a rudimentary map for navigating grief and loss' rocky terrain (with tired tropes and shop-worn strategies), DeMarco offers a unique and trusted guide for an arduous journey every human being will have to face-the realization of evil, pain, or mortality that occurs after a person experiences trauma.

This unique book explores the validity of early neuroinflammation as the cause of autism. If in his previous book, the author had focused on the evolution of the diagnosis of autism over the last century, delving into the psychological, epidemiological and sociological aspects, in this book - the most comprehensive and articulate on this aspect - he has concentrated on the synthesis of research by deepening the discussion of topics related to genetic research, heavy metals, the process of infection and neuroinflammation, and the BDNF thesis. It covers the most accepted scientific theories, providing an overview of new frontiers of research. Finally, it introduces new strategies and tools for diagnosis and new frontiers of intervention. It will be a useful resource for professionals and researchers in autism spectrum disorders and neurobiology. It will also be an interesting read for undergraduate and postgraduate students of autism, neuroscience and genetics.

'So many micro feasts, and every one of them nourishment for body and soul.' -Rachel Cooke, Observer Food Monthly Whether cooking for one on a daily or an occasional basis, cooking well for yourself means cherishing yourself and your appetites, joyously giving yourself pleasure, opening yourself to new experiences. This book will encourage you to do all that. - M. R. A unique work of literary and culinary joie de vivre, part food memoir, part recipe book, French Cooking for One is Michele Roberts' first cookbook, and a personal and quirky take on Edouard de Pomiane's ten-minute cooking classic. Once a food writer for the New Statesman, Roberts was born in 1949 and raised in a bilingual French-English household, learning to cook from her French grandparents in Normandy. Her love of food and cookery has always shone through in her novels and short stories. French cuisine, classic though it is, still holds delicious surprises. From quick bites for busy days to sumptuous main courses for those who enjoy spending more time in the kitchen, the focus throughout is on dishes that are simple and fun to prepare, and results that are mouthwatering to contemplate and, of course, to eat. With over 160 delicious recipes, the majority of which are vegetarian, combined with piquant storytelling and feminist wit, French Cooking for One is a working cook's book with French flair, bursting with life and illustrated with the author's original ink drawings, full of charm and humour. More than a handbook of classic French dishes, French Cooking for One does something that few, if any, cookbooks do: it bears testimony to a singular literary life. Gorgeously written vignettes of Roberts' childhood in Normandy and of her years living in Pays de la Loire are peppered with anecdotes about intellectual and artistic luminaries: an omelette prepared by Gertrude Stein's cook for Picasso; a simple pasta dish calling to mind the French philosopher Julia Kristeva and the Scottish poet Alison Fell's images of female orgasm; and Emma Bovary's extraordinary wedding cake, among others.
