This book has both the English and original Swahili versions. When Hassan's parents decide to move the family to the island of Serena, Hassan longs for a child his age to play with. On the grounds of Tamasha, a beautiful, mysterious house full of terrible secrets, he meets Huda, a sweet girl tormented by her cruel father and sadistic cousin. Despite all odds, and in secret, Hassan and Huda become the best of friends, sharing every happiness and sorrow. But terrible secrets won't stay in the past, and the children are forbidden to see each other ever again. As adults, can they find their way back to each other? Can the truth help Huda survive the abuse she has known all her life, and find peace? Can Hassan be courageous enough to face his parents' secret, and to give Huda the love she deserves? Can the true love and friendship that we know as children heal the wounds of the past? This wonderfully written, engaging book will touch readers' hearts and keep them guessing to the very end.

Economic and trade inequality in the northern, central, and southern regions of East Java Province is no longer a secret for the people of East Java. The northern and central regions of East Java are relatively fast growing, compared to the southern regions of East Java Province. This difference in economic and trade development could be due to differences in transportation facilities and infrastructure, especially ports, so the distribution of goods, services, and people from and to the southern region of East Java Province is not smooth. Or it could be due to the absence or scarcity of commodities to be transported from the southern region of East Java Province because they have not been explored and processed and managed optimally.Departing from the economic and trade imbalance in the southern region of East Java Province which is likely due to the lack of development of port facilities and infrastructure, the East Java Provincial Government, in collaboration with the local government and the Central Government, built a Commercial Port in Prigi, Trenggalek Regency, which is located next to the Fish Port. Prigi Niaga Port's capacity is 3000 DWT, located in a bay west of the Fish Harbor. Currently in place are a 10 x 75 m pier, a 8 x 55 trestle, and an 8 x 250 m causeway. This book provides background on construction of the Prigi Niaga Port, the problem of economic disparity, port development planning and policies in East Java Province, accessibility, connectivity, hinterland, opportunities for the Prigi Niaga Port, potential commodities in the southern region of East Java Province, and strategies for accelerating development of Prigi Trading Port in Trenggalek Regency. This book was published in collaboration with Interactive Publications Pty Ltd, Treetop Studio, 9 Kuhler Court, Carindale, Queensland, Australia. Thank you to the East Java Provincial Government for funding this research through the East Java Provincial Research and Development Agency. The East Java Province Transportation Service has provided data and information assistance related to transportation in the southern region of East Java, especially land and port transportation. We thank the Trenggalek Regency Government and the Tulungagung Regency Government for providing resources in the fields of land and port transportation. We also thank Dr. Wasiaturrahma, SE, MA from Airlangga University, Surabaya, who provided expertise in this research. Thanks also to Kristian Buditiawan, ST (Research and Development Agency for East Java Province); Agung Budi Irawan, S.Sos (Research and Development Agency for East Java Province); and Akhmad Ainur RoKhim, SE, M.Si (Research and Development Agency for East Java Province).

Across the global South, poor women’s lives are embedded in their social relationships and governed not just by formal institutions – rules that exist on paper – but by informal norms and practices. Village Ties takes the reader to Bangladesh, a country that has risen from the ashes of war, natural disaster, and decades of resource drain to become a development miracle. The book argues that grassroots women’s mobilization programs can empower women to challenge informal institutions when such programs are anti-oppression, deliberative, and embedded in their communities. Qayum dives into the work of Polli Shomaj (PS), a program of the development organization BRAC to show how the women of PS negotiate with state and society to alter the rules of the game, changing how poor people access resources including safety nets, the law, and governing spaces. These women create a complex and rapidly transforming world where multiple overlapping institutions exist – formal and informal, old and new, desirable and undesirable. In actively challenging power structures around them, these women defy stereotypes of poor Muslim women as backward, subservient, oppressed, and in need of saving.

Jews, women, and animals have been notoriously considered in Western thought as antithetical to the “civilized,” and therefore parallel. The trope of the womanized Jewish man has been widely recognized as a staple in otherizing portrayals of European Jews, as well as their self-perception. Similarly, ecofeminist critique has addressed the ubiquitous depiction of the animalized woman throughout history. Yet, the interconnection between the effeminization of Jews and the animalization of women has been overlooked. The Jew, the Beauty, and the Beast critically explores the tangled interplay between Jewishness, gender, and animality and its manifestation in modernist Hebrew fiction. Through interdiscursive analysis and close readings, the effeminate Jew is examined vis-à-vis the animalized woman. Intertwining cutting-edge theoretical frameworks of posthumanism and animal studies with established scholarship of Hebrew literature, Jewish studies, and gender studies, Naama Harel offers new Hebrew literary historiography and innovative perspectives on canonical works by Shmuel Yosef Agnon, Devorah Baron, Micha Yosef Berdichevsky, Yosef Haim Brenner, Uri Nissan Gnessin, and David Vogel.

The Last Cold Place: A Field Season Studying Penguins in Antarctica
Lab Girl meets Why Fish Don't Exist in this "compelling blend of memoir, environmental writing, and scientific exploration" (Kirkus Reviews) from a young scientist studying penguins in Antarctica--a firsthand account of the beauty and brutality of this remote climate, the direct effects of climate change on animals, and the challenges of fieldwork. Offering a dramatic, captivating window into a once-in-a-lifetime experience, The Last Cold Place details Naira de Gracia's time living and working in a remote outpost in Antarctica alongside seals, penguins, and a small crew of fellow field workers. In one of the most inhospitable environments in the world (for humans, anyway), Naira follows a generation of chinstrap penguins from their parents' return to shore to build nests from pebbles until the chicks themselves are old enough to head out to sea. Naira describes the life cycle of a funny, engaging colony of chinstrap penguins whose food source (krill, or small crustaceans) is powerfully affected by the changing ocean in lively and entertaining anecdotes. Weaving together the history of Antarctic exploration with climate science, field observations, and her own personal journey of growth and reflection, The Last Cold Place illuminates the complex place that Antarctica holds in our cultural imagination--and offers a rare glimpse into life on this uninhabited continent.

William Hubbs Rehnquist is a name to remember, because it adds distinction to the Supreme Court of the United States. Rehnquist has been outstanding in every intellectual endeavor he has undertaken, starting from his graduation from Stanford University with Phi Beta Kappa in 1948, ending with his revolution of the American jurisprudence and appearance in 1986's "Time" magazine with an attached headline, "Reagan's Mr. Right Justice." His careful management of the Supreme Court of the land made him one of the most impressive Chief Justices of the past hundred years. One thing mattered Rehnquist the most: the law itself. He was neither a notorious textualist as some of the conservative judges, nor an extreme contextualist (historian) as some of the liberal judges. He was a pragmatist. Rarely indeed, one would expect that every detail of his life and career be unfold and recorded, his every rumination be revealed and resonated with pellucid clarity of his immortal input. To assemble the bare facts of Rehnquist's life-tom is a challenge which has baffled the most laborious and meticulous of his biographers. This account isn't set to rehash what others have markedly decoded through the sepia of Rehnquist's career-album. Rather it's about depicting the pivotal events of an extensive service in roles of a conservative Associate Justice (1972 -1986) and the 16th Chief Justice (1986 -2005) of the United States Supreme Court, a duty stretching for 12,293 days between Richard Nixon's and George W. Bush's cabinets.
