The Collaborative Literary Relationship of Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
How did Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, two of the most iconic and celebrated authors of the Romantic Period, contribute to each other’s achievements? This book is the first to dedicate a full-length study to exploring the nature of the Shelleys’ literary relationship in depth. It offers new insights into the works of these talented individuals who were bound together by their personal romance and shared commitment to a literary career. Most innovatively, the book describes how Mary Shelley contributed significantly to Percy Shelley’s writing, whilst also discussing Percy’s involvement in her work.A reappraisal of original manuscripts reveals the Shelleys as a remarkable literary couple, participants in a reciprocal and creative exchange. Hand-written evidence shows Mary adding to Percy’s work in draft and vice-versa. A focus on the Shelleys’ texts – set in the context of their lives and especially their travels – is used to explain how they enabled one another to accomplish a quality of work which they might never have achieved alone. Illustrated with reproductions from their notebooks and drafts, this volume brings Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley to the forefront of emerging scholarship on collaborative literary relationships and the social nature of creativity.
The Life and Letters of Lady Anne Percy, Countess of Northumberland (1536–1591)
Collects the correspondence of a leader of the Northern Rebellion of 1569 who became a prominent figure in the English Catholic exile community. Lady Anne Percy (1536-1591), Countess of Northumberland, rode with rebel forces, leading small parties of men independently, and intercepting post between Queen Elizabeth and the Regent of Scotland. After the failure of the rebellion, she became a prominent figure among the English Catholic exiles in the Low Countries throughout the 1570s. She was at the centre of a transnational network of that shared intelligence and news in support of Mary, Queen of Scots. She also became a spokesperson for the English gentlemen fugitives seeking pensions from the Spanish court, as well as backing the publication of Catholic polemical tracts. She was able to secure personal and political support from papal, Spanish, and French authorities. This edition collects Lady Anne Percy's correspondence for the first time. In a substantial introduction, Jade Scott provides an account of Lady Anne's life and her experience as an exile, first in Scotland and later on the Continent, and discusses the linguistic, rhetorical, and material features of her correspondence, highlighting the strategies that she employed to maintain her networks and ensure a position of influence throughout her life in exile.

The fortunes and misfortunes of Percy: How other sentient beings see us
On the planet of the guardians, the villages, towns and cities hum with the activities of a multitude of diverse beings. At the end of the day away from a cacophony of noise and blazing lights one of them, a flea-ridden and scarred creature, a casualty of the vicissitudes of fortune, retreats into a nightly abode in the blackness of a lane used by delivery vans and bin lorries servicing bars and fast food restaurants in a raucous town centre. He slouches devoid of dignity on a fire escape stairway above the dregs awash in the sodden gutters below. In this dark and wintry setting with the rain drumming on the steel steps emulsified by leaking oil dripping on to the mire below, this shivering destitute clings on to life, mulling over what had once been when with a happy gait he enjoyed the transient beauty of creation. Here he recalls the stories told by the likes of the guru, the dude, the princess, the uppity pranksters and his nobs. The shared recurring theme throughout these short telling of truly big events is the dire warning of the true nature of the guardians.

This is a biographical account that traces the bare bones of the life of my oldest paternal uncle from Percy Main on North Tyneside. The book is a sequel to 'Charlie, Son of Percy Main' and takes the reader on a journey from an impoverished childhood in an impoverished but tight-knit community adjoining the neighbouring ship-building and coal-exporting port of North Shields. Albert loses both his parents by the time he reaches 26 and becomes a 'loner' who soon lands up homeless and in trouble. He moves south and struggles to survive, relying on his wit and guile to find shelter and food. A spell 'inside' finally helps him to 'reform', but at the expense of disuniting other family-members.
