Genealogische Rollen zeigen den Rang einer adeligen Familie an: Manuskriptform, Gestaltungsmittel und inhaltliche Argumente ergeben dabei eine Synergie, die die einzigartige Stellung einer Familie unter Beweis stellen soll. Aus dem 15. Jahrhundert hat sich eine grosse Zahl dieser Manuskripte sowohl im deutschen wie im englischen Raum erhalten.
