Refractive surgery is a surgical procedure used to correct refractive errors. Despite the great benefits that photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) provides, one of the limiting factors of this technique is post-operative pain. Pain is a multidimensional and subjective experience. The use of pain-relieving instruments benefits patients, doctors and makes the procedure more peaceful in the immediate post-operative period. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is one of the most widely used refractive surgery techniques in the world. Despite its effectiveness and safety in the treatment of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, pain remains one of the major challenges in the postoperative period of PRK. Although the combination of the drugs codeine (oral opioid) and paracetamol (analgesic) is widely used in the post-surgical period of various medical specialties, the efficacy and safety of this combination has not been evaluated in the management of post-PRK pain.

The novel feature of this research is that it shifts the issue of legitimization/delegitimization from a vertical power set-up (meaning command/obedience between the wielder of power and the subjects) to a horizontal frame of relationship and recognition among political leaders competing to govern a State. It is thus not delegitimization as a form of resistance or disobedience to a power on the part of those who ought to obey, but strategies of discourse and rhetoric by which legitimate politicians step beyond even heated political conflict and resort to branding the opponent as an enemy of the polity, dangerous to that community's values if he/she should come to govern it. In that "horizontal" perspective delegitimization indicates an attempt to transform a legitimate adversary into an enemy. Such a perspective, significantly, calls for a historical approach and becomes of central importance.

Staging Violence Against Women and Girls brings together three contemporary plays that denounce gendered violence, along with interviews with their creators and the practitioners who have staged them in different national contexts.Little Stitches (London, 2014): consisting of four short pieces by Isley Lynn, Raúl Quirós Molina, Bahar Brunton and Karis E. Halsall, this play presents Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) from the points of view of by-standers, anti-FGM/C activists, health professionals, women who perpetuatethe practice and, finally, survivors.‘Kubra’ (Sydney, 2016): written by Dacia Maraini, this short play features a young woman who was subjected to FGM/C as a child and now, years later, brings her case to court in a search for justice. A Trial for Rape (Rome, 2018): adapted for theatre by Renato Chiocca from the international award-winning 1979 documentary of the same name, this play reveals how judicial procedures and attitudes toward sexual violence tend to turn rape survivors from accusers into accused. In their interviews, the writers, directors and producers discuss their conception and production of the works collected in Staging Violence Against Women and Girls. The plays and their creators highlight the urgency of raising awareness of these forms of violence and giving voice to survivors.

Finite Difference Methods in Heat Transfer, Second Edition focuses on finite difference methods and their application to the solution of heat transfer problems. Such methods are based on the discretization of governing equations, initial and boundary conditions, which then replace a continuous partial differential problem by a system of algebraic equations. Finite difference methods are a versatile tool for scientists and for engineers. This updated book serves university students taking graduate-level coursework in heat transfer, as well as being an important reference for researchers and engineering.FeaturesProvides a self-contained approach in finite difference methods for students and professionalsCovers the use of finite difference methods in convective, conductive, and radiative heat transferPresents numerical solution techniques to elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic problemsIncludes hybrid analytical–numerical approaches
