Hypoxia is an important phenomenon possessing a significant correlation with tumour progression, treatment results and the overall disease prognosis. Tumour oxygenation state leads to a series of genomic changes, enabling tumour cells survival or overcoming the oxygen deficient environment conditions. Tumour tissue growth requires a sufficient oxygen and nutrients supply. Tumour cell responses to hypoxic stress include adaptive proteomic changes allowing the cells to overcome nutritive deprivation or to escape their hostile environment by proliferation, invasion, or metastatic spread. Tumour cell proliferation requires rapid synthesis of macromolecules including lipids, proteins, and nucleotides. This book will supply information regarding this pattern in brain cancer.

Edward Said (1935-2003) was a towering figure in post-colonial studies and the struggle for justice in his native Palestine, best known for his critique of orientalism in western portrayals of the Middle East. As a public intellectual, activist, and scholar, Said forever changed how we read the world around us and left an indelible mark on subsequent generations. Hamid Dabashi, himself a leading thinker and critical public voice, offers a unique collection of reminiscences, travelogues and essays that document his own close and long-standing scholarly, personal and political relationship with Said. In the process, they place the enduring significance of Edward Said's legacy in an unfolding context and locate his work within the moral imagination and environment of the time.

In 1942, a young woman named Sophie Scholl arrives in Munich to begin her studies at university. Reunited with her beloved brother Hans, a medical student, she finds new friends in a group of young Germans united in their passion for jazz music, dancing, art and philosophy - all things that the Nazi regime regards with deep suspicion. In her lectures, Sophie hears whispers of a mysterious group called The White Rose who dare to defy the Nazis. Incendiary leaflets begin to appear, protesting the betrayals and atrocities of the fascist regime and calling on others to act. At the same time, Sophie discovers that her new friends, including her brother, are united by more than just their love of art and music. Soon, she will become another petal of The White Rose and be drawn into a world of rebellion and subterfuge, compelled to carry out acts of great danger and courage.
Songs of an Eastern Humanist
"Considering the emphasis in Said's critical work on space and place and the political importance of geography, it is less surprising to see the luxuriant evocation of a specific topography of dusty roads, grottos, plump figtrees, desert flowers, muddy clods, and the "beckoning hands of lambent hills". Most revealing of all, perhaps, is the poems' tendency to see the world through musical form. Musical imagery is everywhere, testifying to how much of Said's mind in an introspective mood was immersed in the sounds, forms, and fables of Western classical music."-Timothy Brennan, from the book's Introduction Edward Said was renowned for the breadth, erudition, and humanity of his scholarly and political writing. His ground-breaking studies of literature and culture threw a dazzling new light on the ways in which non-Western peoples have been misrepresented over the course of the centuries, and he was among the world's most prominent voices in denouncing the modern-day injustices of Western foreign policy. This volume collects all of his never-before-published poems, offering insight into the personality of the author of Orientalism, The World, the Text and the Critic, and Culture & Imperialism "to a degree hidden in those works themselves". The nineteen works collected in Songs of an Eastern Humanist canvass a variety of poetic forms, but they are all shot through with Said's capacious intellect and passionate sensibility. They are also remarkable achievements of poetic craft. Said's poetry alternates with unerring judgment between wit and pathos, between sublimely elevated and disarmingly quotidian registers. His individual lines of verse are exquisitely constructed and richly elusive, while his poems as a whole are at once sweeping in their vision and keenly evocative of sensory experience. Their publication amounts to a major literary event, marking twenty years since the great public intellectual's passing.

Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing issues facing cities worldwide, as populations grow and real estate prices rise. But the question of what we mean by the term “affordable housing” is far from clear. Designers shy away from the concept, intimidated by the possibility of cheap materials or fast-paced designs, even as potential homeowners are drawn to the promise of elegance and beauty within a tight budget. Into the Nest brings together seventeen architecture students at the University of Cincinnati/DAAP to collaborate with NEWST, a not-for-profit developer that wanted to address the problem of affordable housing in the neighborhood of Northside Cincinnati. Together, they matched up demographic research combined with multiple design iterations to help move toward a definition of affordable housing that works for everyone and points a way toward future design and development.

This book is a composite of sayings from my dad, shared with me over my lifetime. Each of the chapters will come with a back-story around how I happened to get that particular saying. At best, they will give you a fresh perspective on navigating through situations that may occur in life. At the least, the stories will be entertaining and make it easy to laugh at yourself and your own parenting methods or childhood experiences.
