Looper's World: The Adventures of Looper Inchworm tells the story of a little green inchworm who spends all his time, every day, carefully finding and measuring the oldest leaves on his home plant, and eating them. He's a happy inchworm -- or so he thinks....One day, Looper meets a bright yellow and black caterpillar, Cattywumpus, who is excited about flowers instead of leaves -- especially fragrant ones, and roses best of all. But Catty has trouble convincing Looper to even look at a flower. The caterpillar is determined to follow his nose, and convinces the inchworm to come and see a bright red rose in the distance. An adventure begins that changes the two friends forever
Evaluating Mental Health Disability in the Workplace

Evaluating Mental Health Disability in the Workplace

As many as one in four adults in the workforce will suffer from psychiatric illness in a given year. Such illness can have serious consequences -- job loss, lawsuits, workplace violence—yet the effects of mental health issues on job functioning are rarely covered in clinical training. In addition, clinicians are often asked to provide opinions on an employee’s fitness for work or an evaluation for disability benefits, only to find themselves embroiled in complex legal and administrative conflicts. A unique collaboration between a renowned clinical professor of psychiatry and a noted legal expert, Evaluating Mental Health Disability in the Workplace approaches the topic from two distinct areas: the legal context and issues relevant to disability and disability-related evaluations, and the interplay of factors in the relationship between work and psychiatric illness. From this dual perspective, the authors advocate for higher professional standards ensuring that employers, evaluees, or third parties are provided with the most reliable information. Key features of the book: A robust assessment model of psychological disability in the workplace Practice guidelines for conducting workplace mental health disability evaluations Legal and ethical aspects of employment evaluations, especially as they differ from clinical procedure Examination of the process of psychiatric disability development Issues specific to evaluations for Social Security, Workers’ Compensation, and other disability benefit programs Review of relevant administrative and case law. As an introduction to these complex issues or for the further improvement of evaluation skills, Evaluating Mental Health Disability in the Workplace is a timely reference for psychiatrists, psychologists, forensic mental health specialists, andattorneys in this field.

Spider was young and had an attitude. Her favorite words were "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME LORD", always spoken grumpily...at first...but she finally started learning lessons that started changing her. Many of these lessons were from unleashing her own brand of chaos amongst the creatures in the ark and winding up regretting it. Spider sighed a lot on those days but she learned....ever so slowly.

Inchworm, Inchworm: For those of us who grew up in the 50's and 60's, "The Inchworm Song" holds a special place in our hearts. Who can forget the touching scene as Danny Kaye -- starring on film as Hans Christian Anderson, the kindly story-teller -- sings a sweet melody to a group of little children. Hans shows the children a tiny inchworm, as it inches along the leaves of a marigold flower, measuring them all day long. He asks the inchworm in song, "Do you ever stop and see how beautiful they are?" I always felt like the song captured the essence of society's failings in the 20th century - we were experimenting with socialism, trying to create freedom for all, but we felt like we had failed. Instead, it seemed as though most people were forgetting that the beauty of nature and her children are the only good reasons for working and building. Instead, tyrannical forms of socialism had emerged, turning people into soul-less, numbered robots. People needed reminders that they were still a part of the beauty of nature, still important and infinitely valuable.I always knew there had to be an "Inchworm Story" behind the song, and I searched for it over the years, wanting to read it to my own children. Finally, I realized that the only such story was the one that inhabited my own dreams. If I wanted an Inchworm Storybook for my children, I would need to do it myself, like the proverbial "Little Red Hen." I created my own version, and now I am sharing it with you It's a fun story about a little green inchworm who loves his predictable life, until he meets a caterpillar one fine day. Cattywumpus Caterpillar takes him on an adventure that turns his simple world upside-down I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing and illustrating it Nancy

Following up his groundbreaking book Digital is Destroying Everything, Andrew Edwards nowunveils the sinister agenda of An Army of Liars, thedigitally-driven bad actors seeking to destabilize the United States by eroding the very foundations of liberal democracy with a relentless barrage of fabricated narratives and poisonous, digitally promoted misinformation. Pulling no punches, Edwards identifies the culprits: social media platforms protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, audience targeting, real-time content recommendation, foreign state actors, and radical factions fueled by hate. Today’s social media has been weaponized by enemies of the United States and hate and discord are now the currency of thousands of anonymous “content providers.”Army of Liars unpacks how we got here, exactly is wrong with digital enterprise, and how to go about fixing it so that humanity may survive even in an age of artificial intelligence and digital command and control. Should we implement an “engagement tax” on social media platforms and generative AI? These funds could be used to help fight off the worst types of disinformation and to help fund the efforts of content creators whose work has been scraped, stolen, and reconfigured by generative AI and large language models (LLMs).It’s a safe bet the tech giants won’t want to hear it. Army of Liars is designed to help humans not only survive in a digital age, but to conquer digital and prosper in an age of truth in media.

Insanity evaluations represent the most challenging and complex evaluations in forensic psychology and psychiatry. Mental health and legal professionals involved in insanity cases need a solid foundation in current concepts, legal standards, and clinical methods. This need is heightened by the substantial legal and clinical changes that have occurred in the field during the past decade. This text from two leading authorities brings forensic professionals up to date on key issues surrounding insanity evaluations. It provides explicit, research-based guidelines for interview-based assessments, psychological testing and other specialized procedures, and forensic reports and testimony. The volume explores how insanity is conceptualized under the law and differentiated from other standards of criminal responsibility. A range of clinical measures and techniques are examined, with special attention to such relevant phenomena as malingering and amnesia. Included in the appendices are invaluable databases on 413 defendants evaluated for criminal responsibility and 6,479 defendants found not guilty by reason of insanity. For clinicians, the volume provides the knowledge and skills needed to conduct ethical, legally defensible insanity evaluations and to present their findings effectively. Legal professionals will gain a basis for understanding the logic and clinical methods used by mental health experts and for evaluating the quality of their assessments.

What is the place of discontent and unhappiness in human experience and how best can we be with it? There is something about everything that makes it not quite satisfactory. Even things we really love are spoilt by not being quite enough or by going on too long. People entering psychotherapy want to feel better – more authoritative, less anxious or depressed, more whole – and although it can help, an enormous amount of difficult and painful emotions continue to arise. Even after years and years of therapy many of us feel that there is no ‘happy ever after’. Bearing this reality in mind and drawing upon both psychotherapeutic and Buddhist sources, Present with Suffering, explores bereavement and our pervasive experience of emptiness. With a foreword from Henry Shukman, the authors show how through being mindfully present, kind and accepting, we may enfold what hurts us in a more spacious and meaningful way.

Originally created as part of the 2024 Purple Planet Horde projects, this module is two books in one publication: “Cavern of the Purple-People Eaters” is a first level adventure for PCs finishing their funnel adventures. “What the Hex” is a complete purple planet setting area with low-level adaptations of encounters, creatures, situations, plot hooks and artifacts. Just as violet is a lighter shade of purple, “Random Acts of Violet” content represents risks that are (a little) less than the full force of what the purple planet has to offer. Inside these pages you will find fun and exciting encounters for characters at level 1-2, allowing them to have a chance (albeit a small one) of advancing and gaining experience upon this hostile world. Just as newborn sharks retreat to mangroves for protection and survival, smart low-level parties will do well to explore these areas before taking on the main content found upon the deadly plateau from Harley Stroh’s “Peril on the Purple Planet.”

How do engineers respond to ethical dilemmas that occur in practice? How do they view their individual and collective responsibilities? How do they make decisions before all the facts are in? Using the space shuttle programme as the framework, this book examines the role of ethical decision making in the practice of engineering. In particular, the book considers the design and development of the main engines of the space shuttle as a paradigm for how individual engineers perceive, articulate, and resolve ethical dilemmas in a large, complex organisation. A series of in-depth case studies show engineers at work on various stages of the project as they balance budgets, deadlines and risks. By documenting the historical development of a single system, the book provides a unique opportunity to explore the complex interactions between political, organisational and technical pressures and engineering and management decisions.

Finding and using the appropriate legal materials can help social researchers design and execute their research more appropriately as well as assist mental health practitioners seeking answers to legal questions that their practice increasingly presents. Where can social researchers and mental health practitioners go to learn these techniques? Doing Legal Research will enable researchers and practitioners to develop a proficiency in using legal materials by describing how to use the law library to find, cite, and track cases; statutes passed by the state legislatures or Congress; legislative history of these statutes; and administrative rules, regulations, and decisions promulgated by state and federal administrative agencies (such as the Environmental Protection Agency). In addition, the book includes exercises that give readers an opportunity to go into the law library and test developing skills on genuine legal questions. After reading this book, researchers will not only have the skills that will ensure the legal relevance of their initial research question but also the ability to conduct their own evaluation of the legal materials.
