Seven Temples on Malta: Red Skorba Ta' Hagrat Mgarr Kordin III Ggantija Hagar Qim Mnajdra Tarxien A Walking Tour The Sympathetic History of the Stones
SEVEN TEMPLES ON MALTA presents A Walking Tour of ancient stone circles built by rolling megaliths on carved stone balls to form the great structures. Called 'temples' by the early archaeologists, this name has remained in use as 50 temples were discovered and excavated on the small island of Malta and adjoining Gozo. Every temple was built near an underground tomb. But why? The seven temples toured in this book are each designated UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE sites. Yet, even though so many visitors have now walked inside these empty stone sites, built in a preliterate age some 5,000 years ago, no one to this day knows how the structures were used; there is no written history about the great stone circles. This book tries to remedy that. It presents a sampling of the great profusion of intact pottery and fragments of pottery, the sherds found in every temple, 20,000 sherds found in one temple alone. An imagined scenario is also presented explaining how the temple pottery was used. The reader is ultimately invited to attend a feast "One Ancient Evening" with the ancients inside Hagar Qim temple which was built high on a clifftop by the sea. There it becomes apparent that the great stone circles were built for the broken-hearted.
The Canadian Iroquois and the Seven Years' War

The participation of the Iroquois of Akwasasne, Kanesetake (Oka), Kahnawake and Oswegatchie in the Seven Years’ War is a long neglected topic. The consequences of this struggle still shape Canadian history. The book looks at the social and economic impact of the war on both men and women in Canadian Iroquois communities. The Canadian Iroquois provides an enhanced appreciation both of the role of Amerindians in the war itself and of their difficult struggle to lead their lives within the unstable geopolitical environment created by European invasion and settlement.
In Search of the Meaning of Life (An Autobiography): Book Seven - The Seattle Years (Part Two)
What do you do when life is good and seems to be getting better all the time, but you're still not happy? What happens when your life seems to be moving in a completely wrong direction? What if changing the course of your life requires you to strip away all that you currently are for the possibility of achieving all you could possibly become? What if remaining true to yourself - to who you are as a person and to your spirit of adventure - requires you to follow your heart into the unknown without a compass or map to guide you into the future? These were the questions I began asking myself in the winter of 1978-1979, not knowing what my future held or the direction my life should take. I didn't know what my meaning and purpose in life was, or why I was even born to live this life in the first place. All I knew at the time was I was lost and directionless again in life, in what turned out to be my desert place meant to find myself. This is the story of how I got there and the process I took to begin finding my way out again...

Narrative and Representation in the Poetry of Wallace Stevens
In this study Daniel R. Schwarz argues that the narrative and representational aspects of Stevens's poetry have been neglected in favour of readings that stress his word play and rhetoricity. Schwarz shows how Stevens's concept of representation is deeply influenced by modern painters such as Picasso and Duchamp. He shows that Stevens's poetry needs to be understood in terms of a number of major contexts: the American tradition of Emerson and Whitman, the Romantic movement, and the Modernist tradition.
To Give Thanks: Our Pilgrim Ancestors - The stories millions of descendants wish they'd been taught.
The 400th anniversary of the Mayflower crossing and First Thanksgiving provides the perfect occasion for 35 million living descendants and all Americans to reacquaint with their deepest roots. To do this, "To Give Thanks" goes beyond a well-informed history lesson to deliver the personal quests of 102 Pilgrims in one story. In the 17th century, new ways of thinking were challenging every global empire with tides of political, religious, and social insurrection. The Pilgrims' mission to America contained all of these elements and staking claims in the American wilderness was a game of winner takes all. Those who came out on top would define the new land's future. Readers will appreciate learning these stories through the Pilgrims' eyes as "To Give Thanks" blends all 102 experiences into one fascinating novel. The story begins by introducing the origins of the Pilgrims' mission and the first layers of eye-opening subplots to come. The reader will be introduced to their personal agendas and the subtle - yet critical - twists of fate leading to departure. The Mayflower crossing posed dire hardships and dangers. Perilous events during sixty-six days at sea reflect this with several life and death dramas. Then when land is sighted, they will endure the worst nightmares and most triumphant moments imaginable. Here are just some of the highlights: - Impoverished religious refugees desperate for asylum - Aristocratic children orphaned in shame - Powerful merchants use Pilgrims as new world pawns - Managing unfathomable obstacles and setbacks - Contentious factions create discord during crossing - Perilous life and death ordeals at sea - Mutiny inspires the Mayflower Compact - Love triangle of Myles Standish, Pricilla Mullins, & John Alden - Details of wilderness marches to find a settlement - Rampant sickness claims half the Pilgrims ' lives - Struggles over forming a capitalist vs. socialist society - Indian interactions with the Pilgrims - Celebration of the Harvest Festival. Along with original maps designed to supplement the storyline, "To Give Thanks" provides short chapters for easy stop and go reading. An appendix offers readers detailed passenger lists, Indian profiles, and a glossary of 17th Century terms and meanings. There is no better time than now to become intimately acquainted with The American Dream, its genesis, and the Pilgrims of 1620. Discover the stories our ancestors would have liked us to remember. Learning them will provide a pure understanding of the holiday meant for giving thanks.
