These lecture notes are intended as an introduction to the methods of classification of holomorphic vector bundles over projective algebraic manifolds X. To be as concrete as possible we have mostly restricted ourselves to the case X = Fn. According to Serre (GAGA) the classification of holomorphic vector bundles is equivalent to the classification of algebraic vector bundles. Here we have used almost exclusively the language of analytic geometry. The book is intended for students who have a basic knowledge of analytic and (or) algebraic geometry. Some funda mental results from these fields are summarized at the beginning. One of the authors gave a survey in the Seminaire Bourbaki 1978 on the current state of the classification of holomorphic vector bundles overFn. This lecture then served as the basis for a course of lectures in Gottingen in the Winter Semester 78/79. The present work is an extended and up-dated exposition of that course. Because of the introductory nature of this book we have had to leave out some difficult topics such as the restriction theorem of Barth. As compensation we have appended to each sec tion a paragraph in which historical remarks are made, further results indicated and unsolved problems presented. The book is divided into two chapters. Each chapter is subdivided into several sections which in turn are made up of a number of paragraphs. Each section is preceeded by a short description of iv its contents.
Vector and Geometric Calculus

Vector and Geometric Calculus

This textbook for the undergraduate vector calculus course presents a unified treatment of vector and geometric calculus. It is a sequel to the text "Linear and Geometric Algebra" by the same author. That text is a prerequisite for this one. Linear algebra and vector calculus have provided the basic vocabulary of mathematics in dimensions greater than one for the past one hundred years. Just as geometric algebra generalizes linear algebra in powerful ways, geometric calculus generalizes vector calculus in powerful ways. Traditional vector calculus topics are covered, as they must be, since readers will encounter them in other texts and out in the world. Differential geometry is used today in many disciplines. A final chapter is devoted to it. Visit the book's web site: http: //faculty.luther.edu/ macdonal/vagc to download the table of contents, preface, and index. From a review of Linear and Geometric Algebra: Alan Macdonald's text is an excellent resource if you are just beginning the study of geometric algebra and would like to learn or review traditional linear algebra in the process. The clarity and evenness of the writing, as well as the originality of presentation that is evident throughout this text, suggest that the author has been successful as a mathematics teacher in the undergraduate classroom. This carefully crafted text is ideal for anyone learning geometric algebra in relative isolation, which I suspect will be the case for many readers. -- Jeffrey Dunham, William R. Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models

Vector Generalized Linear and Additive Models

This book presents a greatly enlarged statistical framework compared to generalized linear models (GLMs) with which to approach regression modelling. Comprising of about half-a-dozen major classes of statistical models, and fortified with necessary infrastructure to make the models more fully operable, the framework allows analyses based on many semi-traditional applied statistics models to be performed as a coherent whole.Since their advent in 1972, GLMs have unified important distributions under a single umbrella with enormous implications. However, GLMs are not flexible enough to cope with the demands of practical data analysis. And data-driven GLMs, in the form of generalized additive models (GAMs), are also largely confined to the exponential family. The methodology here and accompanying software (the extensive VGAM R package) are directed at these limitations and are described comprehensively for the first time in one volume. This book treats distributions and classical models as generalized regression models, and the result is a much broader application base for GLMs and GAMs.The book can be used in senior undergraduate or first-year postgraduate courses on GLMs or categorical data analysis and as a methodology resource for VGAM users. In the second part of the book, the R package VGAM allows readers to grasp immediately applications of the methodology. R code is integrated in the text, and datasets are used throughout. Potential applications include ecology, finance, biostatistics, and social sciences. The methodological contribution of this book stands alone and does not require use of the VGAM package.

Vector Mechanics for Engineers helps students analyze problems in a simple and logical manner and then apply basic principles to their solutions, encouraging a strong conceptual understanding of these basic principles. Offering a unified presentation of the principles of kinetics and a systematic problem-solving approach, the text has proven to be an effective teaching tool, especially when paired with the digital resources available in Connect. The addition of Case Studies in every chapter are based on actual structures and systems, include failures, provide students with real-world engineering applications. And Sample Problems, liberally used at the end of each lesson, align with the SMART methodology to amplify the neat and orderly work students should cultivate in their own solutions.

Under quarantine, the people living in the rural community of Harper's Glen are isolated and terrified while a horrible disease ravages their home and armed soldiers roam their streets.Shelly Christianson's life is turned upside down when Martin Fallon is brought into the hospital out of a terrible winter storm near the end of her fourteen-hour shift. Pursued by the relentless Colonel Aldridge, Fallon-along with the mysterious and deadly disease following him-has been cornered. As more troops arrive and the town is quarantined from the outside world, Fallon enlists Shelly's help to escape. Meanwhile, her friends and neighbors are falling ill and dying around her, and tensions between the soldiers and imprisoned populous sparks violence. As Shelly and Fallon attempt to escape the net surrounding them, the military resorts to drastic measures to capture them and contain the deadly outbreak. In Vector Zero by Bryan McBee, conflicting political agendas, military action, and duplicity, set against the backdrop of a deadly epidemic, are brought to life in chilling detail.

Vector to Destiny: Journey of a Vietnam F-4 Fighter Pilot goes beyond the classic Vietnam war story to give you some insight into what it was like to grow up on a farm with a big dream. George's journey takes you from farm fields in Wisconsin to the skies over Vietnam in F-4 fighter jets. Share his struggles, failures, and exhilarations as he moves along his path toward destiny. His story is filled with riveting accounts of missions flown by a fighter pilot into intense enemy resistance. Along the way, there were indications of divine intervention. The reception upon returning home from the war was less than desirable. Understanding the plight of Vietnam veterans is a prelude to respecting the contributions of 2.4 million Americans who have fought to preserve the freedoms we cherish.
