Alain Locke is most known for his involvement in the Harlem Renaissance. However, he received his PhD in philosophy from Harvard University in 1918, and produced a very large corpus of philosophical work. His work shows him to have been a sophisticated philosopher who thought through practical and theoretical problems regarding the nature of cosmopolitanism, democracy, race, value, religion, art, and education. Although Locke’s philosophical work has been discussed in parts, there has been no theorizing about how his different philosophical commitments fit together. In this book Corey L. Barnes begins to systematize Locke’s philosophical thought, showing how his democratic theory, philosophy of race, and value theory are connected to and undergirded by a commitment to cosmopolitanism. In so doing, Barnes unearths aspects of Locke’s thought—for example, his economic thinking—that have not been accorded attention and reimagines parts of his work about which have been theorized, allwhile bringing Locke into current debates about each subject.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Franz sisch - Literatur, Note: 2,3, Martin-Luther-Universit t Halle-Wittenberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der vorliegenden Hausarbeit soll es um die Frage gehen, ob das Werk "Le Voyeur" des Nouveau Romanciers Alain Robbe-Grillet einem Kriminalroman entspricht. Dazu werden vergleichende Kriterien untersucht, um daraus eine Prognose ableiten zu k nnen. Zun chst soll jedoch Robbe Grillet selbst vorgestellt werden, wie auch der Inhalt und der Aufbau des genannten Romans. Im Anschluss werden der typische Kriminalroman und dessen Merkmale kurz vorgestellt. Anhand dessen werden danach gemeinsame, sowie unterscheidende Punkte zum Werk "Le Voyeur" erl utert. Die Erz hlperspektive wird dabei gesondert betrachtet. In einem abschlie enden Fazit wird durch den Autor der vorliegenden Arbeit aufgezeigt, inwieweit das zu untersuchende Werk einem Kriminalroman entspricht und die Gr nde daf r benannt werden.

Alain Huck, born 1957, lives and works in francophone Switzerland. Following his degree in Fine Arts at the Ecole cantonale des beaux-arts Lausanne (ECAL) he became a founding member of the M/2 artists collective in Vevey in 1987, with whom he worked for four years. He has been working on his own since 1990, creating a body of polymorphous works in a variety of media: painting, photography, drawing, video, often using text as well. In 2006 Huck started to work on an extensive series of very large-scale charcoal drawings, titled Salons noirs. This corpus now comprises nearly 80 compositions, in which the artist has superimposed different images, combined and confused within a mobile, blurred vision that is occasionally reiterated. This new book for the first time presents the entire series, completed by a selection of other recent works by Alain Huck. Julie Enckell Julliard's essay examines the 'Salons noirs' and suggests ways of approaching them, and also refers to the various relations of Huck's work to that of other artists, such as Albrecht Durer, Arnold Bocklin, Robert Longo, or Gerhard Richter.
