Too often American veterans return from combat and spiral into depression, anger and loneliness they can neither share nor tackle on their own. Military Mental Health Care: A Guide for Service Members, Veterans, Families, and Community seeks to aid our troubled, returning forces by dissecting the numerous mental health problems they face upon arriving stateside. Don Philpott and Cheryl Lawhorne-Scott, co-authors with Janelle Hill of the highly successful Wounded Warrior Handbook, detail not only each issue’s symptoms, but also discuss what treatments are available, and the best ways for veterans to access those treatments while readjusting to civilian life. In addition, they connect and explain many alarming trends, such as joblessness, poverty and addiction, appearing in our nation’s veteran population on a broader scale. PTSD and struggles with anxiety affect far more than veterans themselves, as sobering phenomena like homelessness, suicide, domestic violence and divorce too often become realities for those returning from war. Military Mental Health Care is both a resource for struggling veterans and a useful tool for their loved ones, or anyone looking for ways to support the veterans in their lives.

Conflict in the Great Outdoors

Conflict in the Great Outdoors

Conflict in the Great Outdoors addresses the different orientations and behaviors within sportsmen categories. A major problem of outdoor recreation management addressed in Hobson Bryan's work is the difficulty in identifying sportsmen subgroups having distinctive preferences and expectations as to the composition of the 'quality' outdoor experience. Land-use managers and planners are faced with the problem of matching resources with more users having increasingly specific motivations. Bryan applies his theory of variations within a leisure activity by addressing what sportsmen do and why they do it in various activities such as mountain climbing, hunting, canoeing, skiing, and backpacking.

This report presents the results of a study conducted in 1993-1994 that examined the extent to which spacepower (both military and economic) will influence national security strategy and the conduct of future military operations. It was updated and revised in 1997 to reflect the changes that have occurred in military space policies, organizations, and operations and in the expanding commercial space sector since 1994. The report attempts to articulate the key military space policy issues facing the United States and place them in the larger context of a changing strategic environment to define new options for the exercise of spacepower in the pursuit of national interests. The motivation for the study was twofold: (1) to educate decisionmakers on the exploitation of spacepower in the pursuit of national security interests, and (2) to provide an overview of economic security issues facing military planners who are already familiar with military space policies, programs, and trends. Since the research for the study was completed in 1994, many aspects of the trends discussed here concerning the commercial space market have come about. For example, a Presidential Directive on the Global Positioning System (GPS) was issued in March 1996, and a new National Space Policy was released in September 1996. Furthermore, several defense- and intelligence-community-related initiatives concerning space program management and operations that were begun in 1994-1995 are still unfolding as this document goes to print. The research and analysis was conducted under the auspices of RAND's National Defense Research Institute, specifically the International Security and Defense Policy Center. NDRI isa federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the unified commands, and the defense agencies. The report should be of interest to persons concerned with U.S. military doctrine, strategy, policy, and force planning, as well as those interested in the future of civil/military relations in technology policy and space policy.

Mountain Press Publishing Company
2008

Visitors planning a trip to Florida may envision the states entertainment spots, amazing natural areas, and stunning beaches, but they may not consider examining Floridas remarkable geology. Yet, according to the authors of a new book about Floridas geology, Of all the fifty states, with the exception of volcanic Hawaii, Florida is the land most recently emerged from the sea, and it is covered with geologic evidence of its submarine past. An example is the Florida Everglades, which owe their existence to the coastal ridge that keeps fresh water in and salt water out. The three authors of the newly published Roadside Geology of Florida take readers on fascinating drives around the Sunshine State. Exploring some of the most easily accessible of the states astounding geologic features, readers can learn of beach and coral reef formation; visit amazing fossil deposits; view sinkholes, springs, and caverns; and explore a sea of waving grass. The latest in this one-of-a-kind series, Roadside Geology of Florida divides the state into five regions, following Floridas roads to its geological wonders. With its concise descriptions, clearly written explanations, and abundant color photographs and illustrations, this book will enthrall readers as they tour the Sunshine State.

Volume 5 of the Inspired Art Coloring Books SeriesA lot of my art is inspired by my environments. I like asking people what kind of animals they like, places I hang out at, or seeing a flowering tree. The world is an amazing place. I hope that you find my images as beautiful as I do, while creating them. Depending on your background, culture, mind set, you might see something completely different within each image. My art style was created over 25 years ago, inspired by the old method of creating silk screens. It is amazing to me that we can create such wonderful images out of pieces. That our minds can connect individual lines and merge them into these wonderful pieces of art. As I developed my style, it became how I say the energy and flow of things. An underlying base of life. People see many different cultural and artistic influences from around the world in my art. It makes my heart warm when I hear all the different things people see in my style. In some of my images the negative space is the focus of the drawing, so when you are coloring don't limit yourself to only coloring in the lines. There is no wrong way to color. Let the colors flow how it feels right to you. Some people don't see what I intended the image to be seen and instead find wonderful things I didn't see until they pointed them out to me. Each page can be cut out and framed so you can display your colored creations.I have included a page at the end of the book to test how your crayons, markers, pens, pencils, and any other medium you wish to use for bleed and look. Because of the paper weight, colored pencils are recommended. Markers will need a sheet of cardstock or a few pieces of paper under the page you are coloring to prevent possible bleed-thru onto the next art page.Feel free to visit my Author's page to see more of my books.ThanksBrian Scott

What happens when you look at the history of a location one day at a time? That is what historian and author Brian Scott wanted to learn so he took a look at his own hometown for the answer. Anderson County: A Year in the Life chronicles the events of a rural county in South Carolina. From the treaty that established its borders, to the dedication of courthouses and the execution of criminals, Anderson has seen it all. Murders, suicides, and arsonists. Fairs, parades, and galas. Here are over one hundred stories, one for each day from January 1 to June 30 that tell the story of Anderson County: A Year in the Life.
