While waiting for the sun to move again, the spirits Johnny Reb and Gus Yank (Kotka) are sitting at the New York monument on the Antietam battlefield. This dialogue pamphlet is about three events: one took place 40 years ago, the second 100 years, and the third 500. In the first dialogue, FAKE News correspondent Molly Role interviews Sarah Tonin about electricity and the 1977 book, The Ion Effect. In the second dialogue, the spirits Gus Kotka and Johnny Reb discuss Mosby's Memoirs (1917) and a certain fact regarding Robert E. Lee, Jeb Stuart and Gettysburg. In the third dialogue, ex-communicant Martin Luther meets with a mediator, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, moments before their meeting with the Pope to settle an argument from the year 1517.

'Memories of a Rhondda Boy' is an auto-biographical account of the early life of Bryan W. Sheldon. Brought up in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, his grandfather, his father and to a lesser degree, himself, experienced the turbulence of the first half of the 20th century. It was a period in which there were two world wars interspersed with strikes, disputes and conflict. He was born just before the second world war and raised during a period of austerity and rationing. His story, perhaps typical of his generation provides an important insight into the social history of one of the more famous Welsh valleys.

Corporate Social Strategy

Can good-will be good business? Firms are increasingly called upon to address matters such as poverty and human rights violations. The demand for corporate social responsibility (CSR) is directed mainly at top management in multinational corporations who are reminded that, in addition to helping to make the world a better place, their commitment to social action will be rewarded by lasting customer loyalty and profits. But is it true that firms that engage in social action will be rewarded with a good name, competitive advantage, superior profits and corporate sustainability? What if it is true for some firms and not for others? This book addresses these and other questions by explaining the how and why of creating value and competitive advantage through corporate social action. It shows how and when firms can develop successful corporate social strategies that establish strong commitments to shareholders, employees and other stakeholders.
Confucius and the Analects

Confucius and the Analects

Confucius is one of the most influential figures--as historical individual and as symbol--in world history; and the Analects, the sayings attributed to Confucius and his disciples, is a classic of world literature. Nonetheless, how to understand both figure and text is constantly under dispute. Surprisingly, this volume is the first and only anthology on these topics in English. Here, contributors apply a variety of different methodologies (including philosophical, philological, and religious) and address a number of important topics, from Confucius and western "virtue ethics" to Confucius' attitude towards women to the historical composition of the text of the Analects. Scholars will appreciate the rigor of these essays, while students and beginners will find them accessible and engaging. _

In the quiet bedroom communities surrounding Akron, Ohio, a series of brutal animal attacks leaves a trail of mutilated bodies. Fourteen-year-old Ryan Hatcher, burdened by the challenges of separated parents, a distant older brother, and a mother battling cancer, stumbles upon a chilling belief. Convinced that his father and other locals will transform into werewolves during the impending full moon, Ryan grapples with the weight of this ominous prophecy. As if werewolves weren't enough, Ryan also contends with spectral entities communicating exclusively with his younger sister, Layla, using her toys as conduits for otherworldly messages. Despite the skepticism of his friends, Ryan embarks on a paranormal investigation, uncovering eerie behaviors in neighbors and even his own family. The result is a blood-soaked coming-of-age horror story set against the backdrop of a small town with just weeks to unravel the clues and convince loved ones that a horrifying event is looming.Nowhere, Ohio weaves a tale of horror, drawing inspiration from real places and events of the era while infusing 80s nostalgia, offering a terrifying narrative that explores the challenges of growing up.

HEY I'M TALKIN' HERE tells the fascinating story behind the making of the comedy documentary, I'm No Dummy, which stars Jeff Dunham, Jay Johnson, and Lynn Trefgzer, and is the first feature film examining the art of ventriloquism. Making movies is extremely difficult, if not nearly impossible. While pulling back the curtain on how this particular film was made, the book also provides many illuminating insights about filmmaking in general. Includes a Full Transcription of the Film. With Foreword by Jay Johnson. All proceeds go to Vent Haven, the only museum in the world dedicated to art of ventriloquism.
Stereochemistry of Chiral Pharmacologically Active Compounds in the Environment: Fate, Assessment and Management
This is the first book covering the topic of stereochemistry of pharmacologically active compounds and illicit drugs (PACs) in the environment. The composition of the chiral drug can be changed during wastewater treatment, in the environment, and during drinking water treatment. Therefore the very same chiral molecule might have different activity/toxicity at different stages of its environmental life cycle, which will depend on its origin and exposure to environmental factors. Knowledge of stereochemistry of chiral PACs is therefore of critical importance when assessing environmental impacts from PACs as different stereoisomeric forms (e.g. enantiomers or diastereoisomers) of the same pharmaceutical might reveal different toxicity to different organisms at different trophic levels. This book covers several aspects of drug stereochemistry including stereoselective synthesis, pharmacology, (eco)toxicology and environmental legislation.Topic includes Synthesis of chiral PACs; Chirality in human PACs; Chiral analysis of PACs in the environment; Emerging opportunities in analytical chemistry of chiral substances
Organic Radical Polymers

Organic Radical Polymers

This book provides a detailed introduction to organic radical polymers and open-shell macromolecules. Functional macromolecules have led to marked increases in a wide range of technologies, and one of the fastest growing of these fields is that of organic electronic materials and devices. To date, synthetic and organic electronic device efforts have focused almost exclusively on closed-shell polymers despite the promise of open-shell macromolecules in myriad applications. This text represents the first comprehensive review of the design, synthesis, characterization, and device applications of open-shell polymers. In particular, it will summarize the impressive synthetic and device performance efforts that have been achieved with respect to energy storage, energy conversion, magnetic, and spintronic applications. By combining comprehensive reviews with a wealth of informative figures, the text provides the reader with a complete “molecules-to-modules” understanding of the state of the art in open-shell macromolecules. Moreover, the monograph highlights future directions for open-shell polymers in order to allow the reader to be part of the community that continues to build the field. In this way, the reader will gain a rapid understanding of the field and will have a clear pathway to utilize these materials in next-generation applications.
Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court

Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court

There are three general models of Supreme Court decision making: the legal model, the attitudinal model and the strategic model. But each is somewhat incomplete. This book advances an integrated model of Supreme Court decision making that incorporates variables from each of the three models. In examining the modern Supreme Court, since Brown v. Board of Education, the book argues that decisions are a function of the sincere preferences of the justices, the nature of precedent, and the development of the particular issue, as well as separation of powers and the potential constraints posed by the president and Congress. To test this model, the authors examine all full, signed civil liberties and economic cases decisions in the 1953–2000 period. Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court argues, and the results confirm, that judicial decision making is more nuanced than the attitudinal or legal models have argued in the past.
