Rak tarczycy jest najczęstszym nowotworem zlośliwym ukladu hormonalnego. Chociaż jest to stosunkowo rzadka patologia, odpowiedzialna za okolo 1% nowych przypadk w nowotwor w zlośliwych, w wielu częściach świata obserwuje się tendencję wzrostową w zakresie jej występowania. W niniejszym badaniu przeprowadzono analizę ekspresji COX-2 i VEGF-C u pacjent w z rozpoznaniem raka brodawkowatego tarczycy (CPT) w Goi nii, a także ewentualnych powiązań między ekspresją tych marker w a następującymi czynnikami: przerzuty do węzl w chlonnych, przerzuty odlegle, wielkośc guza, wiek, rozprzestrzenianie się/inwazja na sąsiednie tkanki i plec. Oceniono 165 pacjent w z potwierdzonym histopatologicznie CPT. Wyniki tego badania potwierdzają wyniki innych badań, kt re wykazaly przydatnośc bialek COX-2 i VEGF-C w identyfikacji pacjent w z CPT, u kt rych występuje większe ryzyko progresji choroby ze względu na ich związek z obecnością przerzut w do regionalnych węzl w chlonnych i inwazją tkanki sąsiadującej.
