This book posits the idea that networked learning is the one new paradigm in learning theory that has resulted from the introduction of digital and networked technologies. It sets out, in a single volume, a critical review of the main ideas and then articulates the case for adopting a networked learning perspective in a variety of educational settings. This book fills a gap in the literature on networked learning. Although there are several edited volumes in the field there is no other monograph makes the academic case and provides the academic context for networked learning. This volume accomplishes three main goals. First, it assists researchers and practitioners in acquainting themselves with the field. Second, it provides resources for reference and guidance to those not well acquainted with the field. Finally and most powerfully, it also allows for the consolidation of a field that is truly multidisciplinary in a way that maintains coherence and consistency.

Regulation Inside Government analyses the army of inspectors, auditors, grievance-chasers, standard-setters and other bodies overseeing contemporary public organizations. Based on an unprecedented two-year inside study of British government by a team of leading scholars, this book provides an original analytical perspective on regulation within government. The book begins by examining the size of internal government regulation to reveal a structure comparable in size to government regulation of business. The book then goes on to show how internal government regulation grew in size despite the fact that public bureaucracy elsewhere were being sharply cutback. Given the limitations of orthodox constitutional checks on executive government, the courts and elected members of the legislature, regulation inside government deserves more attention than it has hitherto received. As one of the first comprehensive accounts of regulation inside government, this book begins to fill the gap.
Should America Promote Democracy?

Should America Promote Democracy?

Christopher Layne; Sean M. Lynn-Jones

MIT Press
1998
nidottu
A central issue in debates over the future of U.S. foreign policy is whether the United States should attempt to spread democracy. After the end of the Cold War, many observers argued that the United States needed a new global mission to replace containment of the Soviet Union. Promotion of democracy is one of the most promising candidates for such a mission. In this text, Christopher Layne and Sean Lynn-Jones present opposing views on this question. Lynn-Jones presents three basic reasons that the United States should attempt to spread democracy. First, democratic political systems benefit their citizens more than other types of system. Second, the spread of democracy is likely to expand the zone of democratic peace. Third, the spread of democracy will enhance America's security and international economic relations. Layne takes the opposite view, arguing that the spread of democracy will not increase international peace. Instead, U.S. policies to export democracy will divert resources from important domestic priorities. He argues that the United States should focus on national interests and not attempt to control policies of other countries. After presenting his arguments in detail, each author offers a rebuttal of the other's view.

This book can change your life. I wrote it to help others avoid the pain and misery caused by addiction and relapse that I lived through until I finally learned how to recover. I will help you understand addiction and show you the road to recovery. Once you read my story and see what I went through because of my addiction to drugs and alcohol, and then see how I was able to recover from it and remain clean and sober, then you will see that you can do it, too. This book will show you how. Addiction to drugs and alcohol can have devastating effects on life, family, and relationships, and in many cases leads to incarceration or death. If you have family or friends that are having problems with drugs and alcohol, then this book will help you understand them and what they are going through so you can better formulate a plan to help them get treatment so they can start to recover and get their life back.

I created this coloring book and many others to test customers creativity level and their limits. The first few books features popular musicians, pop stars, hip-hop, rock, and r&b artist of modern day and early musical atmospheres. By Scanning the QR code on each page via smart phone. A playlist created on youtube will pop up allowing you to listen to that Artist top songs through your smart phone while you color. Advanced Coloring Books tests our creative level and focus level of what we think can and can not be achieved. If you consider yourself great with your right hand try coloring the book with your left hand, and vice versa. This develops the brains neural structure and modifies brain power increasing neural activity and growth. Creating more focus allows use to sharpen our mind in all areas. Even people who don't consider them selves artists, this helps relax the brain and body naturally achieving a meditative state, while developing cells never used or used rarely. Adding music to the mix helps stimulate and maintain this meditative state by creating a zen like atmosphere. As we know, our brain is divided into two halves, the Left and Right hemisphere. The right brain looks at the visual references as a whole, whether it's a landscape, object, or a piece of artwork, then focuses its way into noticing finer details. It also deals with art awareness, creativity, imagination, intuition, insight, holistic thought, and music awareness. The right brain works in the three-dimensions and controls left-hand functions. The down side to the Right Brain is that it tends to be disorganized, lack in time management and can't prioritize. The left brain on the other hand sees the details and puts them together to form the bigger picture. The left Brain handles organization, logic, analytical thought, reasoning, science, math, calculations, skill set, as well as controls the right hand. In addition a left brain thinker is better at using words to remember things rather than visual aides, to process ideas in a step-by-step algorithm, and are less prone to errors. The down side to the left brain is that it tends to lack in creativity, and spirituality. The human brain is a network of approximately one hundred billion neurons. Different experiences create different neural connections which bring about different emotions. Coloring becomes an natural outlet to express your emotions creating a therapeutic foundation of peace and inner awareness. Depending on which neurons get stimulated, certain connections become stronger and more efficient, while others may become weaker. This is whats called neuroplasticity. The Advanced Coloring Book combines, the left and right hemispheres to process creative thought collectively. This wires the brains neurological structure to develop new cells, and begins neuroplasticity. As you color I advise people to re-frame from statements like "it's hard","I can't" or "I don't have the patience". Statements of this nature hinders the advancement of cells. Psychologically, and subconsciously wiring the brain to believe you are incapable of doing something. Several studies exemplify that Art Therapy enhanced the psycho-social symptoms of distress, improved quality of life, reduced pain perception, and improved general physical, and psychological health behaviors. Art Therapy showed a reduction in depression and fatigue levels in cancer patients on chemotherapy. Researchers realized, children with cancer engaging in drawing and painting is an effective method for dealing with pain and other disturbing symptoms of illness and treatment. Using Art Therapy with children having asthma reduced anxiety, strengthened self-concepts, and self-confidants. For adults that have dementia or related disorders Art Therapy improves quality of life, decreased perception of illness, disability, and pain. Serving as a form of stress reduction to increase or at least maintain cognitive functioning.

This thought-provoking book investigates the increasingly important subject of constitutional idolatry and its effects on democracy. Focused around whether the UK should draft a single written constitution, it suggests that constitutions have been drastically and persistently over-sold throughout the years, and that their wider importance and effects are not nearly as significant as constitutional advocates maintain.Analysing a number of issues in relation to constitutional performance, including whether these documents can educate the citizenry, invigorate voter turnout, or deliver ‘We the People’ sovereignty, the author finds written constitutions consistently failing to meet expectations. This innovative book also examines how constitutional idolatry may frustrate and distort constitutional change, and can lead to strong forms of constitutional paternalism emerging within the state. Ultimately, the book argues that idolising written constitutions is a hollow endeavour that will fail to produce better democratic outcomes or help solve increasingly complicated societal problems.Engaging and accessible, Constitutional Idolatry and Democracy will be a key resource for both new and established scholars interested in comparative constitutional law, constitutional theory, law and democracy and written vs. unwritten constitutions.

Cheating but Not Cheated: A Memoir of the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Scandal
The Atlanta Public School's cheating scandal is a case study for school districts, educators, and students in education, journalism, and ethics. The five year ordeal, which culminated in a seven month trial, was a matter of international scandal all kicked off by a newspaper investigation. Cheating But Not Cheated gives readers the details of the matter from an insider's point of view. Christopher Waller was held out by the APS superintendent, and later the media, as the "poster child" of the cheating scandal. A review of the investigation and trial, through the eyes of Christopher Waller, highlights how socio-economics, an over emphasis on testing, and a passion for not being at the bottom of the pack led to the cheating scandal. Cheating is a lesson in leadership, integrity, morale and community involvement. Readers, policy makers, and educators cannot know the full story of the testing scandal until they have heard from those who experienced it first hand. Cheating reveals the perspective that must be understood to prevent future school cheating scandals.
