Ray plans to be in The Springs all summer long right next door to the O'Briens. How much more complicated could summer #5 be? Within days of Ray's arrival, a body washes ashore creating even more confusion within The Springs and also on the grounds at the venerable Chautauqua Institution which is a scant 2.2 miles across Lake Chautauqua. Like many things Japanese, the Japanese legal system has its peculiarities... and Professor Jones applies his decades of legal and teaching experience to shed light on its mysteries. As with most legal systems there is method to its madness, and while the reasoning behind it all is a bit different from the approaches of Western nations, it works. Usually. Based on the author's long-running feature in The Japan Times, the book offers a selection of his most important columns, plus other articles drawn from numerous sources, and including a number of never-before published pieces. Older articles have been updated to reflect more recent developments, but remain vitally important to understanding how things work in Japan. And in spite of being written by an attorney, the book is in everyday English, peppered with entertaining and sometimes stinging asides. Here, at last, is a glimpse into the Japanese legal system, ideal for foreign residents of Japan as well as legal researchers and practitioners.

The Craigslist killer was dead, but the mystery has just begun. Elisabeth 'Bets' St. James had thought once the killer was stopped, all they had to do was find the ghoul that had developed a taste for O.S.U. students. They soon learned that the killer was only a pawn sacrificed in an opening move. Shane had thought he was sent to Columbus to kill a rogue vampire. Instead, he found that he was the target. Cut off by his kind, his only allies are Bets, her police detective uncle and his partner and a young federal agent. On top of finding the ghoul, the five had to fight off assassins sent by the Countess Bathory. Locate the missing Lola and find out why a political party paid for the car rental of the killer. If that wasn't enough, a new threat has come to Columbus that could be more dangerous than Apollyon.

The Play A theatre company is workshopping the apocryphal story of Judith, the Israelite woman who uses her beauty to gain admittance to the tent of the invading Babylonian general, Holofernes, to kill him. The actors, however, turn out to be reincarnations of the characters in the Apocrypha: Judith of the biblical Judith; Harold (the workshop director) of Holofernes; and Judith's pedantic husband Maurice (the playwright) as the reincarnation of Judith's biblical husband, Menasseh. Judith and Harold are trying to discover if the story is true by improvising, while Maurice wants the play performed his way. In the reinterpreted version, Judith turns out to be desperately and sexily in love with Holofernes, going to him out of desire but aware that she must forever remain ritually pure. Both know they are playing a part, from which they cannot escape because of the conventions of their own society. The scene where Judith is supposed to kill Holofernes turns out differently from the traditional story in that Judith's triumph according to the Bible, where she is acclaimed by all, is the moment of her greatest tragedy.
Getting it straight from the Bible
The author has spent many years going through the Bible verse by verse, compiling 115,224 references sorted into 11,000 categories. These are printed in his Roget's Thesaurus of the Bible. The present book is based on his findings during this study. The inspiration of the Bible is considered, and ways to interpret it are evaluated. The following major themes are examined as extra principles governing interpretation: the Christ, the people of God, the promised land and the law. This method of interpretation is then applied to a consideration of prosperity teaching, tithing, the Sabbath, science, the last things, miracles and the church.
