His work is a true masterpiece of Alchemy, extremely difficult to be properly understood by those who are not ready to leave logic, vanity, and lust for possession. Since the academic world presumes that the Ancient Art is just a junky forerunner of chemistry, we assumed that Philalethe, an alchemist, deserved to be studied and commented by operative alchemists. His teachings are outstanding, and no one will never be able to enter the Shut Palace of the King without Humility and Patience.

"From Biplane to Boeing" tells the story of my father's life in flying. The book is based almost entirely on his personal logbooks and notebooks which he maintained all the way through his career, logging the detail of every flight. Wing Commander Walter Hillary, DFC., DFM, was taught to fly by the Royal Air Force and went on to fly more than 80 missions with Bomber Command and with Transport. His war was in Europe, North Africa and Burma (now Myanmar). After World War II he pursued a career in Civil Aviation for over 30 years across Africa, flying passengers in Kenya, the Belgian Congo and Libya. The book is my personal tribute to my Dad. It provides evidence for the courage and adaptability of that whole generation.

Il libro presenta vari spunti di interesse, non solo dal punto di vista storico ed etno-antropologico... Pu essere visto come un tour a tema vulcanico che, partendo dallo Sn fellsnesj kull, reso celebre da Verne nel suo Viaggio al centro della terra, d modo al lettore di "avvicinare" altri dieci vulcani attivi. Vulcani di cui, in un passato pi o meno remoto, bastava solo pronunciarne il nome per venirne terrorizzati. Naturalmente anche un viaggio in un mondo vichingo. Dove, grazie ai racconti delle saghe, possiamo rintracciare luoghi e fattorie, che hanno visto sia lo svolgersi delle azioni di "eroi culturali", che l'insediamento dei coloni nordici in uno dei luoghi pi duri e pericolosi del globo. Una terra poi che, dopo aver perso la propria indipendenza ed essere diventata una colonia, verr trascurata dalla madre patria, prima norvegese, poi danese. Diventando terra di conquista di pirati e schiavisti nordafricani e di corsari europei. Successivamente dominata da un avido monopolio commerciale senza scrupoli. Un'Islanda che per buona parte dell'anno rester completamente isolata dal mondo. Spesso priva del necessario e dell'indispensabile per sopravvivere in un ambiente cos drammaticamente ostile. Spietatamente pi volte battuta da carestie, terremoti, eruzioni vulcaniche, finanche da una plurisecolare "Piccola Era Glaciale"... Visiteremo tre interessanti citt . Un tempo autentici "rifugi" per la gente. Oggi "isole" naturalistiche circondate da fiumi e mari di lava: la capitale Reykjav k, l'attigua Hafnarfj rdur, la nordica "simil-tropicale" Akureyri. Entreremo all'interno di quattro tra i pi prestigiosi musei islandesi, incontrando perfino un pinguino del nord... Ma anche il "re merluzzo" sar pi volte oggetto di trattazione. Soprattutto quando sar in grado di far scoppiare un'inconsueta guerra subartica. Ma sar ancora la natura a fare sempre e comunque da padrona di casa. Perch , dove poteva essere situato l'Althing, il Parlamento degli Uomini Liberi vichinghi, se non laddove la gigantesca frattura tra la zolla continentale europea incontra quella americana? Poi, senza soluzione di continuit , storia, letteratura e tradizione si compenetreranno tra loro, alimentandosi a vicenda. Allorch si parler di personaggi come il bandito e fuorilegge Eir k il Rosso, un pluriassassino che ha fatto perfino la Grande Storia. Spinto altrove, poich esiliato dall'isola a causa delle sue nefandezze a ripetizione, sar lui a scoprire una Groenlandia da colonizzare. Poi il figlio Leif, ricevuto dal padre il "testimone", si porter fino a V nland, in un'America ancora precolombiana... Nelle pagine di questo libro non ci faremo mancare proprio nulla. Scopriremo, cos , l'esistenza di un mostro omologo allo scozzese Nessie, come di pericolosissimi passi montuosi da superare. "In diretta" attraverseremo in automobile il remoto e desertico centro dell'Islanda, passeggiando poi, un brivido dopo l'altro, nel cratere di un vulcano capace di eruttare in qualsiasi momento. Organizzeremo una mini-spedizione nel lunare vulcano Askja, dove apprenderemo della passata presenza degli astronauti dell'Apollo, come di misteriose sparizioni. Ci imbatteremo in una Pompei in miniatura, la fattoria di St ng dissepolta dalla cenere eruttata nel 1104 dall'Hekla e di come un'ascia ereditata, che era appartenuta al suo antico b ndi, abbia realizzato dall'altra parte dell'Atlantico, a distanza di circa duecento anni, le rune che decenni prima nelle Orcadi scozzesi avevo osservato all'interno della straordinaria tomba ipogea di Maeshowe. Lasceremo l'antica fattoria di N pssta ur, non come si sempre fatto per secoli, cio a dorso di un pony islandese e con l'aiuto delle guide della fattoria, e attraverseremo lo Skei ar rsandur, un'immensa pianura alluvionale "tra le aree maggiormente desolate del mondo abitato". Contiene 346 immagini in bianco e nero e un mini-glossario geografico.
