Somewhere in the mists of time, between history and hagiography, stands the great evangelist and missionary St. Patrick. Raised a ""cultural Christian,"" Patrick's encounter with God during captivity in Ireland transformed his life and the history of a people. Freedom from slavery, and a return home to Britain, produced the divine summons--Vox Hibernia--to return to Ireland and the place of captivity in order to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christian witness in twenty-first-century Vancouver, Seattle, or Portland is a world away from fifth-century Armagh, Slane, or Cashel. Yet, the great evangelist to pre-Christian peoples of Hibernia has much to teach us as we seek to engage our secular, post-Christian context. There is wisdom in the missional leadership of the one we call St. Patrick that goes well beyond tales of snakes and shamrocks. How might Patrick's mission experience with pre-Christian peoples direct our contemporary missional encounter with post-Christian peoples? Come explore the story of the shepherd slave turned shepherd of souls and discover that there is power still in the legacy of Patrick, when yoked with the Spirit-filled presence and purpose of the risen Christ. ""Canadian Ross Lockhart has quickly become one of our foremost interpreters of the church in mission to God's world. In this engaging, fast-paced book, Ross not only draws upon the ancient missional wisdom of missionary St. Patrick, but also gives contemporary church leaders the insights and skills we need to venture forth into God's mission today. Here is missional theology enacted and put in motion by wise, theologically informed, skilled leadership."" --Will Willimon, Duke Divinity School ""With deft analogical imagination, Lockhart retrieves crucial insights from the missional practice of St. Patrick for twenty-first-century secular society. Finally, a treatment of missional practice willing to be at odds with our context rather than treat it as fate. This book is a treasure."" --Richard R. Topping, Vancouver School of Theology ""There are many scholars who do history, others who do theology, others who do missions. Ross Lockhart braids these three together and the resultant chord is strong indeed. I not only learned more history and more about God, I put the book down encouraged to take part in God's mission of renewing the cosmos. A fantastic book."" --Jason Byassee, Vancouver School of Theology ""Many people are looking back to Celtic Christianity as a guide for Christian living today. With wit, charm, and wisdom, Ross Lockhart weaves together the stories of St. Patrick and the story of Cascadia. The result is the best retrieval of Celtic Christian wisdom for transforming missional leadership . . . It will lift your spirit, deepen your convictions, and equip you to follow Jesus in the culture of Cascadia and beyond."" --Jonathan R. Wilson, Regent College ""Here is an invitation to encounter the spiritual journey of St. Patrick as a resource for our present-day challenges. Lockhart helps us to experience this ancient father of the church as a very modern companion. Patrick's mission is an illuminating model for faithful witness in daunting contexts, both then and now."" --Darrell Guder, from the Foreword ROSS A. LOCKHART is Associate Professor at St. Andrew's Hall at The University of British Columbia. He is the founding Director of The Centre for Missional Leadership and author of Lessons from Laodicea: Missional Leadership in a Culture of Affluence (Cascade, 2016).

While in high school Chuck felt God's call to be a field missionary in Africa, expecting to spend his life there. But God only allowed him three years in the "bush." He had other things in mind for him. These years working cross-culturally laid a solid foundation for his future accomplishments.Through a series of unplanned events, God made him a teacher of missionaries and a missiologist--teaching and writing to improve missionary principles and practices. In this book Kraft reflects on how he was shaped as a missiologist and why/how he felt the need for writing his many books and articles."Culture-positive" is the term he has coined for his approach. It's an approach that honors a people's way of life and helps them to express their faith in Christ within that way of life without converting to another culture. He taught that God loves and accepts them as they are--plus faith--and seeks to work with them to develop their own Christianity based on their own understanding of Scripture. Chuck sees a missionary as a coach, not as a director. This approach has shown its effectiveness both among the people Chuck worked with (the Kamwe of northern Nigeria) and in the field ministries of his students.

Is Walmart a good place to meet God? What about a dive bar? The town dump? Does meeting God happen only in separate, "holy" places? The book of Acts says there is no place on earth without a witness to God's love (Acts 14:16-17). God longs to meet us throughout our lives: at the bus stop, at a costume shop, even at a livestock auction. It's time for expanded spirituality--one that is brave and fresh and all-encompassing. Pastor Laura has been helping people meet God in their communities for two decades. Come with her. Soon you will be talking about the strange and wonderful places you found yourself and the amazing, tender, and powerful ways you met God there. You will find that the search and discovery change you, and the way you approach faith, forever.

Dr. Thomas A. Lambie was called a "loose cannon" by his Presbyterian missionary colleagues in British Sudan in 1907 because of his energy, vision, and spiritual fervor. Through combined gifts of diplomacy and medical prowess, Lambie, together with two missionary colleagues, launched the Sudan Interior Mission in Ethiopia in 1927. The goal of this enterprise was to evangelize the primal religionists of southern Ethiopia. During ten years of pioneering mission efforts by Lambie and nearly one hundred SIM cohorts, a young church of nearly fifty baptized believers was formed. The missionaries were then evicted from Ethiopia by the invading Italians in 1936. This modest beginning became the foundation for what is today the vibrant Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church, the largest evangelical denomination in Ethiopia.

The Welfare Economics of Public Policy

This outstanding text, a follow-up to the authors' award-winning 1982 text, provides a thorough treatment of economic welfare theory and develops a complete theoretical and empirical framework for applied project and policy evaluation. The authors illustrate how this theory can be used to develop policy analysis from both theory and estimation in a variety of areas including: international trade, the economics of technological change, agricultural economics, the economics of information, environmental economics, and the economics of extractive and renewable natural resources.Building on willingness-to-pay (WTP) measures as the foundation for applied welfare economics, the authors develop measures for firms and households where households are viewed as both consumers and owner/sellers of resources. Possibilities are presented for (1) approximating WTP with consumer surplus, (2) measuring WTP exactly subject to errors in existing econometric work, and (3) using duality theory to specify econometric equations consistent with theory.Later chapters cover specific areas of welfare measurement under imperfect competition, uncertainty, incomplete information, externalities, and dynamic considerations. Applications are considered explicitly for policy issues related to information, international trade, the environment, agriculture, and other natural resource issues. The Welfare Economics of Public Policy is ideal for graduate and undergraduate courses in applied welfare economics, public policy, agricultural policy, and environmental economics and provides an essential reference for practitioners of applied welfare economics.

What could be better than brunch on a Sunday morning? For most people in Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, the answer of gathering to worship the Triune God and be sent as witnesses would not be top of mind. And yet, across the Pacific Northwest the authors discovered deeply rooted missional communities worshipping God and serving their neighborhoods, offering evidence of unexpected Cascadian treasure in clay jars. Join the authors on a treasure hunt throughout the region as they identify new patterns of post-Christendom Christianity that will inspire and challenge your understanding of church.

The U.S. healthcare system is in "complete chaos-disarray." Medical costs have increased significantly over the past 6 years with 70% increase for deductibles and 24% or more for health insurance premiums. All the while, workers earnings have either not increased or if they did, the pay raises were for less than the increase in the cost of medical care. The situation is unsustainable and the public wants the system fixed. This book offers ways of fixing the problems in healthcare.HEALTHCARE's OUT SICK - PREDICTING A CURE - Solutions that WORK !!!! first defines the "healthcare in crisis" problem. Through real patient experiences, the book describes the difficulties of getting through the maze of complexity among the plethora of "silo providers" which make up the industry. The heart of the book provides readers with a comprehensive solution that can work, a disruption that is necessary to provide Americans the medical care they need without the US public and healthcare providers and payors going into bankruptcy, insolvency or closure. This book delves into digitized medicine, payor and provider reimbursement models, and value-based healthcare delivery. It also includes a philosophy or mode of thinking and operation for the solutions that are needed for diagnosis-effective, cost-effective, and time-efficient healthcare delivery, of which digitized medicine, value-based care, and payor reimbursement modes are just some of the factors. The authors propose that the real solution involves having the patient at the center of the issues and changing from an archaic gold standard way of thinking to a "Predictive Analytic thinking" where one gets at the real truth by doing "real science" that in the end becomes effective not only for the population but for the individual person. This all leads to real person-centered and person-directed medicine and healthcare delivery.
