Managerial Economics introduces undergraduates, MBAs, and executives to the complex decision problems today’s managers face, providing the knowledge and analytical skills required to make informed decisions and prosper in the modern business environment. Going beyond the traditional academic approach to teaching economic analysis, this comprehensive textbook describes how practicing managers use various economic methods in the real world. Each chapter opens with a central managerial problem—challenging readers to consider and evaluate possible choices—and concludes by reviewing and analyzing the decision through the lens of the concepts introduced in the chapter. Extensively updated throughout, this International Adaptation makes use of new central managerial problems and case studies from across the world to discuss the foundational principles of managerial economics, illustrate key concepts, and strengthen students' critical thinking skills. Favoring practical skills development over complicated theoretical discussion, the book includes mini-problems and spreadsheet problems that reinforce students' quantitative understanding without overwhelming them with an excessive amount of mathematics.

Far too often, our students attain only a superficial level of knowledge that fails to prepare them for deeper challenges in school and beyond. In Teaching for Deeper Learning, renowned educators and best-selling authors Jay McTighe and Harvey F. Silver propose a solution: teaching students to make meaning for themselves. Contending that the ability to ""earn"" understanding will equip students to thrive in school, at work, and in life, the authors highlight seven higher-order thinking skills that facilitate students' acquisition of information for greater retention, retrieval, and transfer. These skills, which cut across content areas and grade levels and are deeply embedded in current academic standards, separate high achievers from their low-performing peers. Drawing on their deep well of research and experience, the authors:Explore what kind of content is worth having students make meaning about.Provide practical tools and strategies to help teachers target each of the seven thinking skills in the classroom.Explain how teachers can incorporate the thinking skills and tools into lesson and unit design.Show how teachers can build students' capacity to use the strategies independently. If our goal is to prepare students to meet the rigorous demands of school, college, and career, then we must foster their ability to respond to such challenges. This comprehensive, practical guide will enable teachers to engage students in the kind of learning that yields enduring understanding and valuable skills that they can use throughout their lives.

LARGE PRINT EDITION More at LargePrintLiberty.com.The pathbreaking book first appeared in 1976, during an inflationary bout in the United States. Hayek argued that it is crucial to the health of the market as a whole to bring the forces of competition to bear in currency markets, not just between countries but within them as well. All people should be free to use any currency of their own choosing, Hayek contended, even if that means rejecting the favored domestic one. This provides a check against inflation, permitting citizens to keep assets denominated in any unit.Governments will thus have greater incentive to avoid inflating because a depreciating unit will lead people to flee to other currencies. At least this would work as some check, and it would be a great improvement over the existing system in which citizens in a currency region are caged sheep led to the slaughter. This book is an important work in part because it represents a reform that could take place right now, one that would change the institutional incentives faced by central banks. This is not Hayek's full plan for sound money but rather a creative idea to diminish the total power of central banks within individual countries. It was a good idea in 1976, and it's still a good idea in the 21st century.

Louisville, Stark County, Ohio, exudes charm and beauty as one of the great treasures of Northeast Ohio. As a French settlement, it was established as a Catholic center, erecting a large parish church, convent, parochial school, and orphanage. St. Louis Church became the envy of other communities for its brick work, stained glass, single log pillars with ornately carved stone capitals, and gold-gilt apse adorning the high altar. It is on par with the best French parish churches and cathedrals. Over time, Louisville would attract many different people from various Eastern European backgrounds. In particular, Louisville would be attractive to local Germans, who were of the Reformed and Lutheran faith, and Anglo-Methodists with their revivalistic flare. It is notable that this city disseminated many children who would create a strong connection to their hometown, a feeling that exists to this day among so many who came from Louisville families. In the 20th century, the Louisville School District became one of the strongest educational institutions in the region, with schools that became models for other schools around them. Louisville has intrigued many for years with its alleged Klu Klux Klan ties. Racism was a part of its history despite it being named the "Constitution Town" in 1957. Yet its industry, rural surroundings, and key figures rose above hate and division. Today, Louisville is much more diverse; its residents come from many different ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations. Its annual Constitution Week draws people from all around who are charmed by this little town and its history.

This volume collects essays by philosophers and scholars working at the interface of Western philosophy and Buddhist Studies. Many have distinguished scholarly records in Western philosophy, with expertise in analytic philosophy and logic, as well as deep interest in Buddhist philosophy. Others have distinguished scholarly records in Buddhist Studies with strong interests in analytic philosophy and logic. All are committed to the enterprise of cross-cultural philosophy and to bringing the insights and techniques of each tradition to bear in order to illuminate problems and ideas of the other. These essays address a broad range of topics in the philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, logic, epistemology, and metaphysics, and demonstrate the fecundity of the interaction between the Buddhist and Western philosophical and logical traditions.

The recent advent of rapid technological changes, scientific developments, and educational expansions have created complex heterogeneities, environmental uncertainties, and socio-economic-ecological inequalities globally. The innovative beneficial resources upgrade and update the existing varieties of structural features such as hereditary, random environmental, spatial and atmospheric perturbations in human population dynamics processes and predator-prey systems. The highly interconnected system under operating random environmental conditions is represented by nonlinear nonstationary large-scale multi-level hierarchical network-centric dynamic processes of Ito-Doob and finite Markovian types with network-centric structural perturbations. For instance, complex spatial, behavioral, and epidemiological structures in human populations vary from citizen to visitor; practicing and adhering to different disease preventive measures at sites in meta-populations; and different ages, stages and resistance levels to infections, respectively. An advantage of the presented results in simple algebraic system parameters form is easy verification and application to planning, prevention, policies, stabilization, monitoring and diseases management.

Over the past three decades, the Internet's rapid growth has spurred the development of new applications in mobile computing, digital music, online video, gaming and social networks. These applications rely heavily upon various underlying network protocols and mechanisms to enable, maintain and enhance their Internet functionalityThe Effects of Traffic Structure on Application and Network Performance provides the necessary tools for maximizing the network efficiency of any Internet application, and presents ground-breaking research that will influence how these applications are built in the future. The book outlines how to design and run all types of networking experiments, and establishes the best practices in synthetic traffic generation for current and future researchers and practitioners to follow. It addresses some basic concepts and methods of traffic generation, but also details extensive empirical research in testing and evaluating network protocols and applications within a laboratory setting. The Effects of Traffic Structure on Application and Network Performance is designed as a reference book for networking professionals who must design, plan, test and evaluate their networks. Advanced-level students and researchers in computer science and engineering will find this book valuable as well
