Internationally renowned and now available to the public! The DICE Approach™ is the leading evidence-informed method for assessing and managing the behavioral symptoms of dementia. The creators of The DICE Approach™ have written an easy-to-understand and use manual to help guide family or facility caregivers through the use of the method. There are an estimated 16 million informal (family or friend) caregivers of people living with dementia in the US and those numbers will increase rapidly as baby boomers age. While dementia is often thought of by the general public as a “memory” disorder”, memory problems are almost universally accompanied by behavioral symptoms including depression, anxiety, apathy, hallucinations, agitation, aggression and many more. One or more of these behaviors will affect nearly every person with dementia over the course of the illness, causing one of the most difficult, stressful and costly aspects of care, and often, stress, burden and depression in caregivers. These symptoms are most often treated with psychiatric medications, but in many cases, we are merely sedating the person with dementia, rather than dealing with the problems and triggers underlying the behavioral symptom. Recognizing this critical gap in care, Drs. Kales, Gitlin and Lyketsos created and published The DICE Approach™ in 2014 in the form of a research paper. The approach was designed to be an easy to use, step by step method for assessing and managing behaviors in dementia. DICE stands for Describe, Investigate, Create, and Evaluate. It is an adaptation of the reasoning process used by dementia behavior specialists as well as in numerous research trials involving training family caregivers to spot behavioral triggers and to use behavioral management skills. Since then, The DICE Approach™ has gained national and international attention and is now used in many dementia clinics, hospitals and long-term care facilities. Using feedback from caregivers trained in the method, Dr. Kales, along with Drs. Gitlin and Lyketsos, have created the official manual for The DICE Approach™. Its 124 color pages provide expert training in each step of the approach. In addition, the manual contains easy to understand information about brain changes and behaviors in dementia, commonly used medications, how to build and interact with your support team, and how caregivers can care for themselves during the chaos and stress of caring for others. This is the essential guidebook for anyone who cares for a person living with dementia whether at home or within a facility.

As far as I know, no one else has done such a book as this one giving the history of the whole of Brown County, so I did it myself with the help of Rhonda A. Dunn. I cover most of the happenings in Brown County for more than 220 years up until the present time. To do this I had to make the book into two parts, the older parts are from the 1800s and that section is called simply, THEN. The stories of what is in Brown County since that time but up to today, is simply called, NOW. Then when we added the new history center, we went to three parts for this book to keep it simple to keep the history together for easier handling and reading. Brown County has changed so much in 220 years that it is amazing. But most of what we are today is what we started from actually. I think you will find this to be true if you read the book in its entirety. Most of the early settlers were from the states of the Carolinas, Virginias, Ohio and Kentucky. Many of those people or their offspring are still here today but we are having an influx of what some call "furriners" today. People today come from the cities to visit, decide they like it here as much as we do and buy up a piece of land and build a log home and stay here. It takes all kinds to make a homogenous group. I think we have done our best to accomplish that. So, pull yourself up a chair, grab a cup of coffee or iced tea, and set a spell and read all about us in this first ever fairly complete history of Brown County. Ya'll come back now, ya hear

By Helen C. WhiteDust on the King's Highway tells of Francisco Garc s, the Spanish Franciscan friar whose missionary efforts brought the Catholic faith to the peoples of the P pago, Yuma, Pima, and Apache tribes. In the summer of 1771, Fray Garc s concludes his offering of Holy Mass and is met by a delegate of four men of the Yuma nation. Having heard of the generosity and good deeds of the "Old Man," they request his presence among their people, the Yumas of the great rivers, that they might give him welcome and hear his words. These words are the words of the Good News, the gospel of Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the earth and all its fullness, the world and all its peoples. "Going therefore, teach ye all nations"-this was the vocation which Fray Garc s had received, the vocation which set the blood in his veins racing wildly at the chance to live it fully, and the vocation for which that same blood will be shed.First published in 1947, Dust on the King's Highway captures the fierce vivacity of the New World and the devoted courage of those who preached and those who received the Word of God with open hearts amidst the vast lucidity of the North American desert. "High above the dusty brush of the river bottom, he saw the shining highway stretch, and he saw a host of men, women, and children down the broad way, white and brown, Indian and Spanish, the living and the dead alike, and they were singing the triumphant words to the measured sweetness of the bell." Helen C. White (1896-1967) was an American Catholic author, scholar, and professor. In a career spanning nearly five decades, she wrote six novels, including A Watch in the Night (1933) and Not Built with Hands (1935), and studies of poetry and devotional literature. White's many awards include twenty-three honorary doctorates, two Guggenheim fellowships, and Notre Dame's Laetare Medal, awarded to a Catholic "whose genius has ennobled the arts and sciences, illustrated the ideals of the Church, and enriched the heritage of humanity."* * *Paperback: 412pp.ISBN: 978-1685953447

Reading is one of the most important traits you can teach your children. From their earliest years they love to have books read to them, then as they grow, they begin to read for themselves. It helps if they have books they can understand and has words they can soon recognize. Their lives will never be the same after they learn to read. This storyteller is one of the best. She knows children love animals, so she shows plenty of those in each of her books. She uses words they can very soon recognize. By the age of six or so, most children can read on their own and if they have a library to choose books from, they will advance even faster.Every day of their lives will be enhanced because they're familiar with the written word and how it translates to their vocabulary.Treat your children to the best. It's like fishing, take a child fishing and they will learn how to fish; teach a child to fish and they will be able to feed themselves forever as they grow. And as usual, this book has a moral to it which is never repeat what you hear when eavesdropping.
