In her short life Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904) came to be known as the ultimate enigma and representative of everything that seemed dangerous in nineteenth-century society. Born the illegitimate daughter of an aristocratic Russian emigree she was a cross-dresser and sensualist, an experienced drug-taker and a transgressor of boundaries: a European reborn in the desert as an Arab and Muslim, a woman who reinvented herself as a man, wandering the Sahara on horseback. A profoundly lonely individual for all her numerous sexual adventures, she roused controversy and was loved and hated in equal measure. A mysterious attempt was made on her life and even her eventual death was ambiguous: she drowned in the desert at the age of twenty-seven. La bonne nomade, Isabelle's diaries, is a fascinating account of her strange and passionate nomadic lifestyle; an evocative and deeply personal record of her torments, her search for inspiration as a writer, her spirituality and the intense color and fire of her living.

Isabelle's Best Day Ever: Kindergarten was not going to pass her by!
When not helping my dad train our beautiful horses, my head was buried in books about kids my age. I relished every story of a young person's adventures, struggles and conquests. My heroines' victories ultimately led me to my own. Growing up in a family of very modest means, I joined the military to not only serve my country, but to gain access to the education I knew was, undoubtably, my only way of influencing young minds, like mine had been influenced all those years ago. With a master's degree in education and thirty years as a Language Arts/English teacher, I continued to bury my head in books that would help children reach the greatest potential possible in their young academic lives. To conclude, when my precious granddaughter began her near-impossible situation, I was well-prepared to tackle the adventure, as well as the heartbreaking struggle, knowing the end result would be a great conquest; all because of God's great glory and love/support of family

London, 1850.Isabelle Rackham knows she will not marry for love. Though arranged marriages have fallen out of fashion, hers has been settled for some time to combine the upper-middle-class wealth of her father's coal mines with Alexander Osgood's prospering Northern country textile mills. Though not a man prone to romantic gestures, Alexander is well known as an eligible bachelor. His good looks have turned more than one head, so Isabelle is content to think of herself as Alexander's wife. However, her marriage is not what she expected. Northern England is nothing like her home farther west in the lake country. Cold, dreary, and dark, the soot from the textile mills creates a gray hue that seems to cling to everything in the city of Manchester. Alexander is distant and aloof, preferring to spend his time at the mill rather than with her at home. Their few conversations are brief, polite, and lacking any emotion, leaving Isabelle lonely and desperately homesick.Sensing his wife's unhappiness, Alexander suggests a trip to his country estate. Isabelle hopes this will be an opportunity to get to know her new husband without the distractions of his business. But the change of scenery doesn't bring them any closer. While riding together on horses, Alexander is thrown from his and becomes paralyzed. Tragedy or destiny? The help and care that Alexander now needs is Isabelle's opportunity to forge a connection and create a deep and romantic love where nothing else could.

The perfect storm has been brewing for over 30 years for Isabelle Potts, a liberal feminist in a conservative faith based community in northwest Iowa. As it comes to a head in the political climate of 2016 she is only able to find some sanity and hope because of a private coffee shop which she opens in her desperate attempt to find her community. As the reader meets the members of the coffee shop, the importance of its privacy and obscurity to the small group of liberal outcasts in the fictional town of Lakeview Iowa, whose congressional representative is openly racist casting a national spotlight on their community, will become apparent. Isabelle's loneliness and fear of never escaping Lakeview plays out as a stream of consciousness to which the reader is privy. Will her resourcefulness and the dream she shares with two of her coffee shop members show Isabelle a path forward? Will she discover that resilience and resourcefulness will continue to be her strength and give her hope? Or will Isabelle finally lose herself?
Isabelle Albuquerque: Orgy for Ten People in One Body
Aluquerque's expressive sculptural self-portraits are freighted with eroticism, mythology and posthumanism This volume documents a new series of sculptures by Los Angeles–based artist Isabelle Albuquerque (born 1981), presented as a complete set of 10 for the first time in an exhibition at Jeffrey Deitch in 2022–23. These works, an expressive and erotic form of self-portraiture based on the artist’s own body, rendered in materials ranging from fur, bronze and walnut to resin and rubber (with found materials such as a candle or a saxophone), combine intimate memories with history, mythology and posthumanist and feminist theories. Each chapter of Orgy for Ten People in One Body corresponds to one of the 10 sculptures with a palimpsest of reference images, process photos and installation views. The publication includes two conversations with Albuquerque, with Arthur Jafa and with Miranda July.
