The geologist Joseph Beete Jukes (1811–1869) studied at Cambridge under Adam Sedgwick (1785–1873). In 1841, having already gained field experience in England and Newfoundland, he joined the H.M.S. Fly as a naturalist for an upcoming four-year expedition to chart the coasts of Australia and New Guinea. In 1847, he published a two-volume Narrative of the Surveying Voyage of H.M.S. Fly (also reissued in this series). That was followed in 1850 by this pioneering study of the geology of Australia, which drew on Jukes' own observations as well as on some earlier work. It describes features including the mountains along the East coast, raised beaches, alluvial plains and the Great Barrier Reef, and rock types from limestone and sandstone to granite and lava. The book made an important contribution to the scientific literature on Australia at a time when that continent was still largely unknown to European scholars.

In this Element, the gas-particle flow problem is formulated with momentum and thermal slip that introduces two relaxation times. Starting from acoustical propagation in a medium in equilibrium, the relaxation-wave equation in airfoil coordinates is derived though a Galilean transformation for uniform flow. Steady planar small perturbation supersonic flow is studied in detail according to Whitham's higher-order waves. The signals owing to wall boundary conditions are damped along the frozen-Mach wave, and are both damped and diffusive along an effective-intermediate Mach wave and diffusive along the equilibrium Mach wave where the bulk of the disturbance propagates. The surface pressure coefficient is obtained exactly for small-disturbance theory, but it is considerably simplified for the small particle-to-gas mass loading approximation, equivalent to a simple-wave approximation. Other relaxation-wave problems are discussed. Martian dust-storm properties in terms of gas-particle flow parameters are estimated.

During the process of preparing this book, researchers discovered that the corner buildings around the Inner Courtyard of the Temple were much larger than anyone had previously seen. While researching these four corner buildings, they began to identify different named chambers within each building. This, in turn, gave a new understanding as to how the Temple functioned and the marvel of its design. Also as an added bonus, research confirmed the exact location of the Temple building, as well as many other structures of the Second Temple period. The illustrations have been revised as the research progressed giving a more accurate picture of the Temple and its environs. Due to questions posed by a leading Rabbi in Temple research, Volume I evolved from being a general book on the Temple to one specifically on these four corner buildings and all that had been discovered. In addition, the research uncovered another major building directly behind the Temple building. Even though this structure was well documented from the Tanach, Talmud, and Temple Scroll, it had virtually been ignored in all modern-day layouts of the Temple. This required adding several chapters and revisions to all the illustrations and diagrams contained to reflect these findings. Now we are proud to offer a view of the Temple and its workings as never before seen. Beautifully illustrated with over 100 full-color illustrations and diagrams. This second edition has included additional research and minor corrections made to the Hebrew text for accuracy.
