Many stories abound of the daring exploits of the RAF's young fighter pilots defying the might of Hitler's Luftwaffe, and of the dogged courage of the men of Bomber Command flying night after night over Germany in the face of flak and Focke-Wulfs, yet little has been written about the pilots who provided the key evidence that guided the RAF planners - the aerial photographers.Ken Johnson joined No.1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit as an eighteen-year-old and soon found himself at the controls of a Spitfire high above enemy territory. The PRU aircraft were stripped of all non-essential equipment to increase their performance, because speed and height was their only protection as the aircraft's guns were among those items that were removed. In this light-hearted reminiscence, Ken Johnson relives his training and transfer to an operational unit, but not the one he had expected. He had asked if he could fly Spitfires. He was granted that request, only to find himself joining a rare band of flyers who took to the skies alone, and who flew in broad daylight to photograph enemy installations with no radios and no armament. Unlike the fighter pilots who sought out enemy aircraft, the pilots of the PRU endeavoured to avoid all contact; returning safely with their vital photographs was their sole objective. As well as flying in northern Europe, Ken Johnson was sent to North Africa, where his squadron became part of the United States Army Air Force North West African Photographic Wing (NAPRW). In this role, he flew across southern Europe, photographing targets in France and Italy."The Spy in the Sky" fills a much-needed gap in the history of the RAF and, uniquely, the USAAF during the latter stages of the Second World War. AUTHOR: Kenneth Johnson was born in Leicester on 5 December 1922. He led an unremarkable childhood, except that he had a penchant for building and repairing bicycles and motorcycles, and learning how to operate them. By the age of 17 he had saved enough money to buy a second-hand car and went to work in a furniture store in Coventry. The Second World War then intervened in his future! 16 b/w illustrations

Earth is in a precarious situation. An advanced alien race from the planet Kouzzart, 1,000 light years away, has sent its unmistakable message, "Reject your war-like ways or you will be confined." To reinforce that message, they launch six satellite drones to orbit our solar system with the ability to destroy all life on Earth. These aliens have visited Earth before. Six previous civilizations in the past million years had been destroyed and reduced to cave-dwellers. With Earth on the brink of self-destruction once again, the aliens transport our ambassador, Major Paul Noble, to Kouzzart to negotiate an equitable peace. It is the only chance for mankind's salvation. This is the story of the Major's journey and the message his mentor Cicerone wants him to convey to the people of Earth, before it is too late. Duffy's Regiment

Duffy's Regiment

This is the gripping story of how one man’s half-century of service and devotion helped build and develop the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment; and how that regiment played a vital role in Canada’s efforts during the Second World War. Angus Duffy was Regimental Sergeant-Major during the Second World War; commanding officer from 1958 to 1962, and Honorary Colonel from 1976 to 1981, an da man revered and respected for his tough but humane approach to leadership, and underlying belief that the common foot soldier was more important than the commissioned officer. Although he wasn’t commanding officer during the Second World War, there was little doubt that the Hastings & Prince Edward soldiers felt they were serving in Duffy’s Regiment. Illustrated with a number of captivating war photos, Duffy’s Regiment is a detailed, and often touching look at the impact one man had on his regiment, and the incredible sacrifice of those men.
Magnetic Properties of Solids

Magnetic Properties of Solids

Magnetism is one of the phenomena by which materials exert attractive or repulsive forces on other materials. Some well-known materials that exhibit easily detectable magnetic properties are nickel, iron, cobalt, and their alloys; however, all materials are influenced to greater or lesser degree by the presence of a magnetic field. Materials may be classified by their response to externally applied magnetic fields as diamagnetic, paramagnetic, or ferromagnetic. Magnetic particles of nanometre size are attracting growing fundamental and technological interest because of their unique magnetic properties, which are dominated by superparamagnetism. This book presents a broad range of topics in this growing field, including their use as magnetic agents, receptor particles for microwaves as well as in shielding layers.

88.6% of the People Who Visit the Morongo Basin Are 1oo% Idiots
Some recent studies have shown that the vast majority of people who visit southern California's Morongo Basin and the surrounding desert cities are so dumb that they could try to throw themselves on the ground and miss. These ten short stories illustrate some of the many stupid things that some people do while visiting the Morongo Basin. This book was created in an attempt to entertain desert locals and possibly help educate desert tourists. All these stories about people who couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel are, sadly, all based on true events. The Morongo Basin lies east of the San Bernardino Mountains and north of the Coachella Valley. These days it encompasses communities such as Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Landers, Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms and Wonder Valley. Nearby attractions include the Joshua Tree National Park, the Sand to Snow National Monument, the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, the Pacific Crest Trail, Desert Christ Park, the Oasis of Mara, the Integratron, Giant Rock and Pioneertown, USA. "It is very difficult for me to believe that all of the hard work which I contributed to the expansion of this great State of California, has, in its own part, lead to atrocities such as these. Nevertheless, this journaling of ten short stories is quite entertaining on a particularly humorous level." - Colonel Henry Washington "No, sir. I don't like it. JK 8)" - Summer Salt Freely "Short stories such as these tend to mend troubled minds. They often soften hard heads as they explore more of the humorous side of humanities misfortunes, rather than simply just pointing out individual random acts of idiocy." - Hidalgo Holliday

By 1861 Armando had lain cold in his grave for 45 years. The leaders of the territories had completed their propaganda blitz, which got people sufficiently riled-up to kill their neighbors from the southern states. Philosophical differences, perceived injustices, religious and ethnic rivalries were stoked to a point of explosive combustion. Biases and inflammatory contention were published daily in the newspapers. These false stories were believed by the northern and southern populace of the great nation of the United States of America. It took 40 years of propaganda before the first spark was ignited in a powder keg of man's creation. When the tinder box was first lit at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861, all the hundreds of reasons that were used to justify the civil war, ignited as planned. The real reason for the war was disguised and well-hidden. That reason, when you stripped away the gaudy decorative clothing it wore, revealed the truth. It was greed, pure and simple. War supported industry and made room for the victorious to expand and grow. The vanquished became the slaves who fueled the labor forces needed for rapid expansion. Modern political leaders, and the Kings and Queens before them, knew this truth; that wars created prosperity for rich industrial barons and leaders of the armies. The only losers were the combatants who fought the battles and the villagers who were trampled underfoot. The previous hundred years had seen fair-skinned European immigrants fight with each other over the spoils of the vast North American continent. They conquered and defeated the Indigenous Native people into submission. The Native's land was stolen, and the remainder of their population was corralled onto reservations, conveniently located to suit the industrial needs of the new Americans. The Sentinel Hill mansion had grown throughout this period. The next 150 years would write a different outcome. The American Civil war was a classic example of neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother. Their patriarch Armando, who had built the mansion and established the thriving estate, had predicted this civil war sixty years before it started. This story follows the moral collapse of a nation's people, the prosperity of a few and the devastation of the majority, with Sentinel Hill at it's epicenter.Visit my website at: http: //kennethchamberlin.wixsite.com/author
