The Case for a New Bretton Woods

The Case for a New Bretton Woods

Kevin P. Gallagher; Richard Kozul-Wright

After the 2008–9 global financial crisis, reforms to promote stability, social inclusion, and sustainability were promised but not delivered. As a result, the global economic situation, marred by inequality, volatility, and climate breakdown, remains dysfunctional. Now, the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic offers us a second chance. Kevin Gallagher and Richard Kozul-Wright argue that we must grasp it by implementing sweeping reforms to how we govern global money, finance, and trade. Without global leaders prepared to boldly rewrite the rules to promote a prosperous, just, and sustainable post-Covid world economic order – a Bretton Woods moment for the twenty-first century – we risk being engulfed by climate chaos and political dysfunction. This book provides a blueprint for change that no one interested in the future of our planet can afford to miss.

All Is Well: Life Lessons from a Preacher's Father

Kevin P. Martin

An American Book Fest Best Book Award finalist and Royal Dragonfly Book Award honorable mention. A memoir of a parent's sudden passing from ALS, recalling life lessons learned and regaining faith in the process. Kevin P. Martin, Sr. was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease, better known as ALS, in August 2019. He died only a month later. Over a thousand people would attend the wake and funeral in South Boston--after all, Kevin Sr. was a leader in the Southie community and in the Catholic Church, both as a business owner and family man. But Kevin Jr. struggled with a bottomless grief; neither his father's example nor his own faith as a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston fully equipped him to cope with the loss. All Is Well is the story of the good life well-lived and life lessons Kevin Sr. taught his son. It's a story of how Kevin Jr. moved from darkness to light after his father's death. It is a memoir that gives a roadmap out of grief, taking a path whose landmarks are the Beatitudes, family, miracles, baseball, rites of passage, bucket lists, and love; it offers insights into leadership, marriage, parenting, resilience, practicality, suffering, giving, forgiveness, joy, and savoring the little things. It paints a portrait of a servant leader, a consummate professional and family man, and sheds light on the up-close realities of ALS. It offers one exceptional father's example for how we can better live a life without regrets, how we can make the best of the time we have, and how we can do the most good with the journey we're given. Part Tuesday's With Morrie and part Townie, this memoir offers solace and a path for those who are experiencing or have experienced grief from losing a parent, especially to terminal illness. Those that believe in a higher power (especially but not limited to the Catholic community), those from Boston and elsewhere in New England, and those looking to find lessons in the good life well-lived will readily find themselves in All is Well. 100% of this book's profits will go to ALS research, care charities, and support organizations.

"The Braggart of Bourbon St." tells the rowdy and uproarious story of Lyle DuTemp, a notorious liar and playboy, who returns to New Orleans after the death of his father. As chance would have it, he falls in love with the no nonsense Zelda Bradshaw, daughter of a very conservative Judge.Complications arise when Lyle wages war with his stepmother, the nefarious and deliciously vile Madame Delphine Marie St. Croix DuTemp, over whom shall inherit the vast DuTemp estate, which includes a dilapidated boarding house, home to "immigrants and idealists", next to the Bradshaw residence."Braggart" is a wickedly wild, rambunctious, provocative American commedia which examines the traditions of Mardi Gras and the First Amendment.

The Clarity of Cold Steel is a gripping steampunk detective thriller. If you like gritty heroes, twisty thrillers, and hard-boiled sleuths, you'll love The Clarity of Cold Steel. Gain some clarity and buy the steampunk thriller today.Questions with the authorWhat inspired you to write 'The Clarity of Cold Steel'I've always loved detective fiction. After fantasy, it's my favorite genre. And whatever I write, I always seem to inject some hard-boiled, noirish detective element into it.And well, I wanted to write a story about a Hindu detective because I've always been fascinated with the culture. And I had created the apocalyptic steampunk world of the Machine City for a role-playing campaign I ran for my brother a long while back.So I married the two ideas and the world of 'The Clarity of Cold Steel' was born.Q: 'The Clarity of Cold Steel' is a mouthful. How did you come up with that as a title? It's really just a line from the novel. I had a different working title at the time, but when I wrote that line, I knew it was going to be the title.Coming up with a title can be incredibly frustrating. After I wrote Lord of Asylum it took me over a year to hammer out a title. I changed it at least three times before settling on it.With The Clarity of Cold Steel, as soon as I wrote it, I just knew. Why steampunk? What does it offer that other genres don't?I had written two short stories set in this world before I wrote Clarity. I loved that they were set in a fantasy/sci-fi world but I could still use real-world history and culture and problems to flesh it out.Plus, I love using steampunky tropes like clones and evil corporations and weird technological gadgetry.
Determining Communication Shortfalls for Homeland Defense

Communications is a critical enabling capability that is interwoven into every facet of every military operation. Assessing what communication capability is most valuable to the operation is a vital planning requirement to avoid using the word process twice in the same sentence] that currently resides in several processes that produce differing outcomes within the DoD. This thesis examines these planning processes, particularly the capability-based approach, assessing which process is optimum for determining communication shortfalls. An in-depth comparison of the Joint Capabilities Integrated Defense System (JCIDS) and USNORTHCOM's Capability Review and Resource Assessment (CRRA) was conducted, examining the respective strengths and weakness of each process. This thesis then recommends an optimized hybrid solution of the CRRA and JCIDS, thus providing an intuitive methodology that can be used to model what communication capabilities are essential to the DoD and its interagency partners.
