Much of the life and ritual of the Druze in Lebanon appears mysterious to outsiders, as this esoteric sect remains closed to non-members. Lubna Tarabey, herself a member of this community, is ideally placed to offer insight into the family life, tradition and religious practices of the Druze. She looks back to the 1970s, and the start of a civil war that shattered Lebanon along confessional lines, to explore how the substantial social and political changes that have shaken the country have affected marriage and divorce practices. Family Law in Lebanon highlights the social ramficiations of this civil war, as Lebanese society divided according to sectarian affiliations, strengthening this facet of identity to the detriment of a wider 'Lebanese' identification. It was through this process that the internal cohesion and solidarity of a group such as the Druze became even more important. Thus, for generations, the Druze way of life was characterized by a high degree of 'traditional' practices and customs. Examining the development of attitudes towards marriage and divorce uncovers the extent to which these traditions are being developed, negotiated and even cast aside. Through analysis of court records, Tarabey explores established and emerging patterns of marriage choices and grounds for divorce. She thus focuses on two interconnected trajectories: one that considers the changes in these overall family patterns and another that places these changes within the legal context in which they occur, focussing on the interplay between the social and the legal. It is through this that she highlights a complex web of change and continuity, of traditional values competing with enhanced individualism and personal freedoms.

For miniaturized biomedical devices, laser joining of dissimilar materials offer excellent potential to make precise joints. This book is focusing on the interface of metal/polymer. An important system for consideration is sputtered Ti coated glass joined with polymeric films(Polyimide and Teflon Fluorinated Ethylene-Propylene).Comparison of Sputtered method to that of CA-PVD are made and found that sputtered deposition technique provides better film quality and bond strength over CA- PVD.The role of both surface characteristics and chemical bonding are investigated for laser joints using advanced techniques such as Optical Microscopy, AFM, XPS, SEM, EDS, AES and PALS.For the case of Ti coated glass/Teflon FEP, no detectable degradation of polymer is observed in terms of free volume of voids.

Andere L nder, die eine hohe Inzidenz von Darmkrebs gemeldet haben, sind Kanada, Australien, Neuseeland, D nemark und Schweden. In Australien war Darmkrebs die zweith ufigste Todesursache unter allen Krebsf llen. Auch in Asien ist Darmkrebs die dritth ufigste Krebserkrankung bei M nnern und Frauen. Dans le pass , la plupart des cas de ce cancer se trouvaient dans les pays d velopp s et taient consid r s comme une maladie li e au mode de vie occidental. Ces derni res ann es, l'incidence du CCR a augment dans les pays en d veloppement, en raison de changements dans le mode de vie, notamment un mode de vie plus s dentaire, l'ob sit , la consommation d'alcool et le tabagisme. Aux tats-Unis, le cancer colorectal est la deuxi me cause de d c s parmi tous les cas de cancer et l'incidence est plus lev e chez les hommes que chez les femmes. Au Royaume-Uni, le CCR est le troisi me cancer le plus fr quent chez les hommes (apr s le cancer du poumon et de la prostate) et chez les femmes (apr s le cancer du sein et du poumon). Le Canada, l'Australie, la Nouvelle-Z lande, le Danemark et la Su de sont d'autres pays qui ont fait tat d'une incidence lev e du CCR. En Australie, le cancer colorectal est la deuxi me cause de d c s parmi tous les cas de cancer. Le cancer colorectal est galement devenu le troisi me cas de cancer le plus fr quent chez les hommes et les femmes en Asie. Les pays asiatiques qui ont fait tat d'une forte incidence du CCR sont le Japon, Singapour, la Cor e du Sud, Ta wan, Hong Kong et l'Iran.
