The study of numbers from a philosophical, mystical or theosophical viewpoint has been pursued since the dawn of man. Many are familiar with the mapping of the Hebrew alphabet onto numbers to identify words which have an affinity with one another, for interpeting the Scriptures, and most particularly in gaining an understanding of the Kabbalah. Similarly, the importance of numbers has been emphasized by alchemists, astrologers, theurgists and numerologists through the centuries, and it forms a key part of the syllabus of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, among other Orders. One such school is Martinism, which takes much of its teachings from the extraordinary system of Martines de Pasqually, the founder of the Masonic-Theurgic Order of Elect Cohens of the Universe. His book, 'Treatise on the Reintrgration of Beings', presented a theosophy based on numbers, drawing heavily from the Book of Wisdom: "Thou hast ordered all things in measure, and number, and weight." Saint-Martin continued to emphasize the importance of numbers in his several books, and devoted an entire tract to the subject, 'On Numbers', which was published posthumously. One hundred years later Papus (Dr. G rard Encausse) assembled a book entitled 'The Science of Numbers', which was also published posthumously following his untimely death. These two seminal books on the subject are now offered in English for the first time, with over 300 footnotes explaning the sources of the ideas, and assisting the reader to understand the extraordinary world of Martinist numerology and the concept of theological mathematics.

An illustrated biography of one of the greatest composers and conductors of the 20th century, Marvin Hamlisch, for any young reader who loves music, the theater, and movie scores. As only the second person in history to be awarded the PEGOT (Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony), Marvin Hamlisch has quite an incredible story. This graphic novel adaptation of the biography of the renowned musician, composer, and conductor also includes his family’s flight from Nazi-occupied Austria and their immigration to the United States. Accepted into the prestigious Juilliard music school at age 6, Marvin had to work hard to overcome intense anxiety before every performance. Despite his struggles and his self-doubt, he celebrated his first radio hit in his teens, wrote songs for a young Liza Minelli, worked with Barbra Streisand on Funny Girl, and won his first major award before the age of 30.

The EGOT-winning composer of The Way We Were and A Chorus Line recounts his remarkable life from childhood to Broadway and Hollywood. The son of Jewish Viennese immigrants, six-year-old Marvin Hamlisch's early musical talent and discipline led him to Julliard, where he studied for more than a decade. From there, Hamlisch got his start as a rehearsal pianist for Funny Girl starring Barbra Streisand. He went on to co-create the classic American musical A Chorus Line and wrote the Oscar Award-winning musical score for The Way We Were. Hamlisch is one of only a handful of people to achieve EGOT status--winning an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. In this autobiography, Hamlisch tells the tale of his life and career, revealing personal stories of his childhood, his marriage, and his friendships with stars including Liza Minnelli, Groucho Marx, and others. It offers an intimate view of his life and a compelling portrait of Broadway and Hollywood through the second half of the twentieth century.
'The scope and clarity of this book make it accessible and informative to a wide readership. Its messages should be an essential component of the education for all students from secondary school to university... [It] provides a clear and comprehensible account of concepts that can be applied in our individual and collective lives to pursue the promising and secure future to which we all aspire' -From the Foreword by Maurice Strong, Chairman of the Earth Council and former Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) The most important questions of the future will turn on the relationship between human societies and the natural ecosystems on which we all, in the end, depend. The interactions and interdependencies of the social and natural worlds are the focus of growing attention from a wide range of environmental, social and life sciences. Understanding them is critical to achieving the balance involved in sustainable development. Human Ecology: Basic Concepts for Sustainable Development presents an extremely clear and accessible account of this complex range of issues and of the concepts and tools required to understand and tackle them. Extensively supported by graphics and detailed examples, this book makes an excellent introduction for students at all levels, and for general readers wanting to know why and how to respond to the dilemmas we face.
