A travers trois romans de Tournier, Le roi des aulnes (1970), Les meteores (1975), La goutte d'or (1985), cette etude analyse cet a-priori de Tournier en mettant en lumiere l'importance du concept de marginalite dans une nouvelle definition de l'originalite. La marginalite y est traitee comme theme mais aussi comme mode de narration.

Though Michel Leiris defined himself as a poet until the end of his life, long after he had abandoned poetry for prose, criticism has consistently ignored his poetry. Through semiotic analyses of Leiris' surrealist collection "Failles," this book shows that it is the system, peculiar to poetry, of signifying by series of equivalent metaphors that forms the basis of all of Leiris' writings. Just as a single concept may be expressed by the most disparate metaphors, so Leiris would later try to recapture in prose the single poetic rule underlying the seemingly divergent phenomena of his life: the immobile amid the mobile, the one behind the many.

Fascine par la reecriture du mythe chez Tournier, ce travail etudie les textes litteraires de ce dernier d'une perspective nietscheenne. Le livre examine egalement de pres comment la narration chez Tournier est informee par une remise en question du rationalisme, du colonialisme et des systemes de valeur conventionnels, et comment sa notion d'une co-creation de l'auteur/lecteur nous invite a depasser l'antagonisme humain. Ayant montre que la conception de l'ecriture et de la lecture chez Tournier s'interesse a une creation joyeuse au lieu d'une recherche obsessive du sens, il conclut par nous suggerer une correlation entre l'ideal de la Grande Sante chez Nietzsche et les motifs transcendants dans les recits de Tournier.

Michel Tremblay is twenty-seven and his first widely produced play, Les Belles Soeurs, has premiered a year before. As he encounters his writing idol, the younger man must break through the older man's emotional barriers to establish common ground. Ultimately, Kerouac's Quebecois background helps Tremblay understand his work, recognize the role religion takes, and the place women play in his psyche, as stated metaphorically in the various female characters who populate Les Belles Soeurs. Although Foucault departs from Marxism, his own approach constitutes a form of consistent materialism which has theoretical implications for the analysis of social and educational discursive systems. In seeking to demonstrate a correct reading of Foucault, linguistic readings of his work, such as those of Christopher Norris (1993), which represent him as part of the linguistic turn in French philosophy, where language (or representation) henceforth defines the limits of thought, will be dispelled in the process of being corrected. Rather, Foucault will be represented, as Habermas (1987) has suggested, not merely as a historicist but at the same time as a nominalist, materialist, and empiricist.Because the distinctiveness of Foucault's approach can best be seen in contrast to other major philosophical systems and thinkers, considerable attention is given to examining Foucault's relationship to Marxism, as well as his relations to Kant, Gramsci, Habermas, and the Greeks. In relation to education, there is in Foucault's approach a double emphasis which constitutes an ordering principle for this work. On the one hand, attention is directed to discursive practices which perform an educative role in the constitution of subjects and of human forms of existence. On the other hand, forms of education are constituted and utilized for the purposes of collective ethical self-creation, a theme Foucault emphasized in his later works. The book assesses some of the more interesting recent utilizations of Foucault in educational research.
