Everyone jumped their feet and stood at attention. The General stood before us, red with anger while the entire arena held their breath, waiting to see what was going to happen."Harry, Chael, you're free to go see the healwife to have your arms looked after and Caleb...""No."Everyone looked at me, shocked by my refusal. Even the General stood speechless."Sir, when we spoke yesterday, you promised me the match I wanted."He nodded."I want it now.""Chael, son, you're hurt...""With all due respect, sir, my arm's not broken." I moved it to show I wasn't lying and tried not to wince as the pins and needles moved along the length of it.The general threw his hands up in desperation. "Chael's luck," he mumbled before throwing an apologetic look my way. "Alright, Chael. Nothing else is going as it should and quite frankly I'm at a bit of a loss. Caleb, you fight Chael for the Shadow Knight challenge."When you're named for the god of bad luck, you're at least a head shorter than everyone else around you, and your horse is the only black one in a world where every horse is a grey, people are bound to talk. Chael has spent the past eighteen years of his life proving to those around him that he's worthy of his family name; that he's meant to be a Shadow Knight. Just when things are finally going his way, Chael's luck strikes again. Now, Chael is in a race against time to find the one who has taken everything from him and who plans on destroying the one thing he's worked so hard for, the knighthood. As if this weren't enough, he'll have to reveal the one thing he's managed to keep secret for the past eighteen years. With help from some unexpected sources, Chael sets off on a journey that will test his will, his character, and his heart.

Tyler leaned against a tree and looked up at the woman. His head cocked to the side. "I'm not sure if you know this, but you're not where you're from anymore."The woman wiped an arm over her face. "Really. I'm not sure what was my first clue; the little blue person with wings or the miniature mammoth with teeth."Tyler looked around. "You saw a tlarrison? When?""Which one is that?""The tiny meat eating mammoth.""About an hour ago.""Look, I don't want to frighten you, but I'm coming up your tree." Tyler took three running steps toward the tree and two more up the tree where he grabbed on to the lowest branch on the trunk. He hauled himself up and climbed the rest of the way so he was at the same level as the woman. She looked at him cautiously. "So if the mini mammoth is a tlarr... um, what was it again?""A tlarrison.""Tlarrison. So what was the little blue person with wings?""A Burrie." He smiled."And you are?""Tyler.""Tyler. That sounds normal enough." She took a deep breath. "I'm Heidi."It's been five years since his twin brother Trent was killed and Tyler has been on his own ever since. When he stumbles across Heidi, a human from the other world who's just crossed over, he vows to get her home against his better judgment. What he doesn't realize is that to keep his promise, he'll have to risk his life and the one thing he's managed to keep to himself since the war... his heart. Still, a promise is a promise and Tyler doesn't break his. After facing human rogues, packs of Majs, and Zerpanays, he'll have to decide... can he bear to let go of the one thing that's managed to bring him back to life?
Province Building and the Federalization of Immigration in Canada
Most accounts of the provincial role in Canadian immigration focus on the experience of Quebec. In Province Building and the Federalization of Immigration in Canada, Mireille Paquet shows that, between 1990 and 2010, all ten provinces became closely involved in immigrant selection and integration. This considerable change to the Canadian model of immigration governance corresponds to a broader process of federalization of immigration, by which both orders of government became active in the management of immigration. While Canada maintains its overall positive approach to newcomers, the provinces developed, and continue to develop, their own formal immigration strategies and implement various selections and integration policies. This book argues that the process of federalization is largely the result of provincial mobilization. In each province, mobilization occurred through a modern iteration of province building, this time focused on immigrants as resources for provincial economies and societies. Advocating for a province-centred analysis of federalism, Province Building and the Federalization of Immigration in Canada provides key lessons to understanding the contemporary governance of immigration in Canada.
