Here, in his own colorful, slangy words, is the true American Dream saga of a self-proclaimed ""film geek,"" with five intense years working in a video store, who became one of the most popular, recognizable, and imitated of all filmmakers. His dazzling, movie-informed work makes Quentin Tarantino's reputation, from his breakout film, Reservoir Dogs (1992), through Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004), his enchanted homages to Asian action cinema, to his rousing tribute to guys-on-a-mission World War II movie, Inglourious Basterds (2009). For those who prefer a more mature, contemplative cinema, Tarantino provided the tender, very touching Jackie Brown (1997). A masterpiece--Pulp Fiction (1994). A delightful mash of unabashed exploitation and felt social consciousness--his latest opus, Django Unchained (2012).From the beginning, Tarantino (b. 1963)--affable, open, and enthusiastic about sharing his adoration of movies--has been a journalist's dream. Quentin Tarantino: Interviews, revised and updated with twelve new interviews, is a joy to read cover to cover because its subject has so much interesting and provocative to say about his own movies and about cinema in general, and also about his unusual life. He is frank and revealing about growing up in Los Angeles with a single, half-Cherokee mother, and dropping out of ninth grade to take acting classes. Lost and confused, he still managed a gutsy ambition: young Quentin decided he would be a filmmaker.Tarantino has conceded that Ordell (Samuel L. Jackson), the homicidal African American con man in Jackie Brown, is an autobiographical portrait. ""If I hadn't wanted to make movies, I would have ended up as Ordell,"" Tarantino has explained. ""I wouldn't have been a postman or worked at the phone company. . . . I would have gone to jail.""

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained
Django Unchained is certainly Quentin Tarantino's most commercially-successful film and is arguably also his most controversial. Fellow director Spike Lee has denounced the representation of race and slavery in the film, while many African American writers have defended the white auteur. The use of extremely graphic violence in the film, even by Tarantino's standards, at a time when gun control is being hotly debated, has sparked further controversy and has led to angry outbursts by the director himself. Moreover, Django Unchained has become a popular culture phenomenon, with t-shirts, highly contentious action figures, posters, and strong DVD/BluRay sales. The topic (slavery and revenge), the setting (a few years before the Civil War), the intentionally provocative generic roots (Spaghetti Western and Blaxploitation) and the many intertexts and references (to German and French culture) demand a thorough examination. Befitting such a complex film, the essays collected here represent a diverse group of scholars who examine Django Unchained from many perspectives.

In this final novel in the Trilogy set in 1947, Quentin is faced with his greatest challenge yet, to nail a serial arson killer responsible for two murders. All his detective skills are tested as he seeks to uncover motives surrounding a 22 year old rape case that ended with injustice. The judge and most of the jurors from that old trial are deceased. Where is the victim and who might be stalking the guilty survivors? Long buried illicit affairs, a stealthy shadowy criminal, tangled webs of jealousy and a critical attack on Piper make Quentin question his abilities. Can he find redemption by being the best Chief of Police ever for the dusty town of Nyssa, Oregon? Will he be enough for Piper? Along the way temptations unsettle his mind about a permanent commitment to Piper. The climax comes in a barren ghost town near the grave of legendary Lewis and Clark guide Sacajawea's only son, Jean Batiste Charbonneau. Adult situations.

This narrative, which is entirely fictional, takes place in a real historical context: that of the Holy Roman Empire, at the beginning of the thirteenth century. At that time, the empire was torn by incessant civil wars, which were fought between two rival clans over the right to rule.Godefroy of Lanicey, known as "Godefroy the Cruel," remarried, taking for his bride Isadora of Willeim. She gave birth to Guillaume, his second son. Godefroy's son, Quentin-who had left his father three years earlier, because they both loved the same woman, who was then murdered-returned to the Lanicey fortress in 1201. He waged war alongside Othon of Brunswick, while his father supported the rival clan. But his character was beginning to assert himself, and he was behaving more and more like his father. He became powerful, full of himself, and terribly resentful.Following two prior adventures about the fortress's inhabitants-which pertain to Godefroy and his son-Quentin embarks for the Fourth Crusade, in the Middle East. This time, the Crusaders are victorious. Quentin returns to his country two years later, bringing with him his new, young bride. But Godefroy was furious; he refused the marriage, which he had not decided, and threatens to disinherit Quentin, in favor of Guillaume instead. Father and son face each other down once more. Quentin rebels and leaves the fortress, then decides to take revenge.... Read the story to discover what his revenge will be like.

Quentin Blake: Pens Ink & Places
FOLLOWING FROM THE ENORMOUS SUCCESS OF WORDS AND PICTURES AND BEYOND THE PAGE , THIS THIRD VOLUME CONTINUES A NARRATIVE OF VISUAL ADVENTURES OF UNUSUAL DIVERSITY. Pens Ink & Places contains a wealth of new material, ranging from touching series of vignettes for Great Ormond Street Hospital to gigantic drawings for the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings; from the sombre apocalyptic landscapes of Riddley Walker to the energetic fantasy of Billy and the Minpins. This beautiful volume also includes Blake's unique illustrations made to accompany accompany the works of John Ruskin, La Fontaine, Lucius Apuleius and Beatrix Potter. Blake's commentary - straight, as it were, from the drawing board - explores the challenges and opportunities in the creation of drawings known around the world, as well as others seen here for the first time. It is clear from every page of this informative and richly illustrated volume that there has been no slackening of brio in the scratchy pen nib of an artist who has been called the `Godfather of Illustration'.

Tim Fountain came to know Quentin Crisp intimately during the last year of his life whilst researching his stage play about him, Resident Alien. Crisp died before he got a chance to see the play. Here he tells the story of that year; looking at the life and lasting legacy of one of the wittiest and most controversial figures of the last century, and shedding light on the intriguing events leading up to his death. It is a compelling portrait of what Fountain calls a 'great, glittering contradiction': a man who flaunted his sexuality at a time when the penalty for homosexual activity was jail, a man whose very name epitomized style, yet who lived alone in abject poverty in a room he simply refused to clean, and a man who confidently declared at the height of the AIDS epidemic that he didn't believe it existed.

Find Out What Scott Really WroteGoing back to the original manuscripts, a team of scholars has uncovered what Scott originally wrote and intended his public to read before errors, misreadings and expurgations crept in during production. Quentin Durward is a young Scotsman seeking fame and fortune in the France of Louis XI in the fifteenth century. He knows little and understands less, but Scott represents his ignorance and naivete as useful to 'the most sagacious prince in Europe' who needs servants motivated solely by the desire for coin and credit and lacking any interest in France which would interfere with the execution of his political aims. In Quentin Durward Scott studies the first modern state in the process of destroying the European feudal system.By far the most important of Scott's sources for Quentin Durward is the splendid Memoirs of Philippe de Comines. Comines, who has more than a walk-on role in the novel itself, was trusted councillor of Charles the Bold of Burgundy until 1472.
