WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY CHRIS POWER‘A master of the short form’ IndependentWide-ranging, suggestive, and ever-daring, Roberto Bolaño's short stories map out the dark terrain that he would go on to explore in his novellas and epic novels. From melancholic portraits of exile and its folklore to a rogue’s gallery of desperate characters futilely attempting to unearth the animating secrets of the world, each of Bolaño’s short fictions adds yet another door, a window, a secret passage onto the sinister, eerie universe that Bolaño brought to life across his body of work.Bringing together Last Evenings on Earth, The Return and The Insufferable Gaucho, as well as Bolaño’s posthumously published stories, this new book marks the first time these fictions have been collected in one edition, allowing for a major reappraisal of the vital place that the short story commands for Bolaño’s literary legacy.‘Bolaño was a flat-out genius, one of the greatest writers of our time’ Paul Auster‘Bolaño was a game changer: his field was politics, poetry and melancholia . . . and his writing was always unparalleled’ Mariana Enríquez

While sitting in his World Trade Center office suite soon after his arrival from St. John, United States Virgin Islands, Michael Tombs began to privately reflect, I knew the Duran assignment was a very tough, dangerous, and challenging assignment. However, I knew my security team had dotted every single I and crossed every single T in the war on terror in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Roberto Cuoghi: da ida e piñgala a ida e ida o piñgala e piñgala
Italian multimedia artist Roberto Cuoghi (born 1973) works in painting, sculpture, digital animation, drawing and sound. Perhaps best known for his decision to alter his appearance at age 24 to become a man in his sixties, Cuoghi has since created many works exploring issues of transformation and identity. Examining integral themes within the artist's practice, including the history of metamorphosis, the challenges of representation and the fluidity and hybridity inherent in identity, this publication features texts in multiple languages by both the artist and curator Yorgos Tzirtzilakis. The exhibition and book title allude to Cuoghi's exploration of Assyrian language and rituals--clearly visible in his striking pieces--revealing the artist's interest in how narrative and the act of translation can affect our understanding of history and reality.

Roberto Burle Marx (1909–1994) remains one of the most important landscape architects in the history of the field. His distinctive and widely acclaimed work has been featured and referenced in numerous sources, yet few of Burle Marx’s own words have been published. This collection of a dozen of Burle Marx’s lectures, most of which have never before been available in English, fills that void. Delivered on international speaking tours, they address topics such as Concepts in Landscape Composition, Gardens and Ecology, and The Problem of Garden Lighting. Their publi- cation sheds light on Burle Marx’s distinctive ethic and aesthetic of landscape, as “the real art of living.” The lectures paint a picture of Burle Marx not just as a gardener, artist, and botanist, but as a land- scape architect whose ambition was to bring radical change to cities and society. The lectures are framed by photographs, by Leonardo Finotti, of a selection of Burle Marx’s realized projects.

Roberto Schwarz Beyond Borders
The point of departure for this volume is the work of the Austrian Brazilian critic Roberto Schwarz on literature and culture. Since the 1970s, both his essayistic and dramatic writings have been impacting radical debates that transcend national and disciplinary borders. His international interlocutors include Beatriz Sarlo, Fredric Jameson, Franco Moretti, Susan Sontag, among many others. In this volume, scholars from various contexts discuss Schwarz’s critical legacy, approaching it with new perspectives and relating it to different research objects. The topics addressed range from literature to issues of sociology, theory, translation, politics, etc. Despite the variety of themes, the contributions are interrelated by their common background: the Schwarzian approach. In particular, this volume reflects the radicality of a perspective which, through the formal analysis of, for example, a novel, achieves to shed light on sociohistorical dynamics not evident until then. Especially in an intellectual scenario that is increasingly interested in the decentralization of thought and therefore in understanding global power relations in the culture, this volume is a unique contribution to the international critical debate.
