ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Deborah Spine was born in Roseville, California, in the early 1950s. She became a Born-Again Christian at the age of 10 at Summer camp and has been walking with the Lord ever since. She has been married to Charlie for nearly half a century. They have two children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren so far In short, she is grateful for and humbled by all the blessings in her life. Debbie, Charlie, and their two chihuahuas currently live surrounded by giant pine trees in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. While Debbie was attending nursing school and preparing for an anatomy test, she started to daydream about how we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." She thought of her imperfect love for Jesus and His perfect love for her. She imagined offering herself to Him one body part at a time. She was reminded of Romans 6:12-13 "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness." (NIV) And that is how A BRAND NEW CREATURE came to be. Also, look for her Coloring Book and the 2-year Calendar in the A BRAND NEW CREATURE series.

Surrendering to Possibilities is written for individuals who have a vision to fuse a passion with a future business-but have no business education or private business experience. These same individuals answer a call to follow an undefined path, to learn in real time, to muddle through uncertainty and arrive exactly where they need to be. While yoga is the centerpiece of this book, learning, teaching and creating are the anchors of this journey. The content was sifted from pages of notes documenting Heather's transition from classroom teacher to solo-preneur. This journey of many thousands of steps and missteps lead her to the ultimate classroom: from her mat, teaching her version of yoga, to those choosing to be there. Her success is not measured by revenue, it's measured by degrees of contentment and satisfaction.

Social Work with Groups

Columbia University Press

When should someone not be admitted to a group? How can a reluctant child be persuaded to participate in a group? What is the best way to deal with issues of low self-esteem? Part of the enduring appeal of this classic work is its vivid depiction of actual group work and the challenges that arise. Opening with an instructive survey of the roots and development of group social work-from the first YMCA to the establishment of the NASW-Northen and Kurland contribute to the integration of theory and research that forms the basis of group social work practice. Using an ecosystem approach, they set forth a generic framework for practice with diverse groups, establishing a common core of values, knowledge, purposes, and interventions that can be applied to different populations and situations. With clear step-by-step guidance, this book covers the major issues as well as the ethical challenges that working with groups entails. This fully revised and updated edition includes seven new chapters that reflect the most recent developments in group practice.

Strategic Narratives

Strategic Narratives

Communication is central to how we understand international affairs. Political leaders, diplomats, and citizens recognize that communication shapes global politics. This has only been amplified in a new media environment characterized by Internet access to information, social media, and the transformation of who can communicate and how. Soft power, public diplomacy 2.0, network power – scholars and policymakers are concerned with understanding what is happening. This book is the first to develop a systematic framework to understand how political actors seek to shape order through narrative projection in this new environment. To explain the changing world order – the rise of the BRICS, the dilemmas of climate change, poverty and terrorism, the intractability of conflict – the authors explore how actors form and project narratives and how third parties interpret and interact with these narratives. The concept of strategic narrative draws together the most salient of international relations concepts, including the links between power and ideas; international and domestic; and state and non-state actors. The book is anchored around four themes: order, actors, uncertainty, and contestation. Through these, Strategic Narratives shows both the possibilities and the limits of communication and power, and makes an important contribution to theorizing and studying empirically contemporary international relations.International Studies Association: International Communication Best Book Award

Forging the World brings together leading scholars in International Relations (IR) and Communication Studies to investigate how, when, and why strategic narratives shape the structure, politics, and policies of the global system. Put simply, strategic narratives are tools that political actors employ to promote their interests, values, and aspirations for the international order by managing expectations and altering the discursive environment. These narratives define “who we are” and “what kind of world order we want.”

Rozelle chronicles the life and times of the architect of the modern National Football League, Pete Rozelle, who transformed football into arguably the most successful sports league in the world. While he was never considered a serious candidate for the job of NFL commissioner early on, the position ultimately catapulted Rozelle into the role through which he transformed the NFL and became a trailblazer for all sports in the second half of the twentieth century. When he became commissioner in 1960, the league had twelve teams playing to half-empty stadiums and was mired in an outdated business model. Rozelle introduced revenue and television profit sharing to guarantee the success of small-market teams and brought every NFL game to national television. Rozelle's monumental achievements include the introduction of the Super Bowl in the '60s followed by the NFL's most rapid expansion and the establishment of Monday Night Football. The '80s saw Rozelle presiding over drug scandals, labor struggles, and the league's legal battles with team owners such as Oakland's Al Davis, who famously won a lawsuit to move his Raiders to Los Angeles. Jerry Izenberg chronicles the iconic life of Rozelle, who revolutionized the culture of sports in America and is responsible for turning the NFL into the preeminent sports league in the world.
Rosella, or Modern Occurrences
Mary Charlton's 1799 Rosella, or Modern Occurrences is a fascinating novel that brokers between conservative and feminist ideas, humour and horror, and indulgence in and ridicule of sentimental tropes. Written in imitation of Cervantes’s Don Quixote (1615) and Lennox’s The Female Quixote (1752), Rosella belongs to a large class of comic works in which female readers and novelists are satirized. This edition not only addresses the gap in knowledge about Charlton’s work, but will be of particular interest to scholars working on the Romantic literary market of the 1790s, especially Minerva Press publications. The book engages with many of the themes explored in eighteenth-century and Romantic literature, from women’s writing and female education to popular fiction and sensibility. Accompanied by a new introduction by Professor Natalie Neill, this title will be of great interest to students and scholars of literary history.
