Happiness All Along

Happiness All Along

The definition of happiness is changing with times. Everyone knows happiness is inside you. Simple isn't it? However, we continue to run around the world in search of it. Will we find it this way? No, Never. Our environment programs us to appreciate happiness through things. When as a young kid we cried, they gave us a rattle. Maybe we needed our mother's lap. The same treatment continued throughout our childhood. The result - we linked happiness to our desires. When we grew young our parents taught us to take good care of our belongings, be it be our first bicycle, pencil box, gaming console or the cricket bat. If we lost or gave it someone, they reprimanded us. We thus became overzealous in protecting our possessions. Now, we should not complain when we find people getting over aggressive on the parking, a slight dent on the car or slight reprimand to their kid from the school. They have trained us to fight the war. With whom? We don't know I think it is with ourselves. The purpose of writing this book on happiness is to bring a smile on your face. After reading it you would be clear what real happiness is and know what causes unhappiness. This book combines real-life experiences, insights & self-help into one. It provides insights first and then guides on the ways of achieving 'happiness', 'happiness all along'. The experiences written in the book are real-life insights, the outlook is practical and the initiatives to keep you 'happy', simple and doable. As we study to be aware, eat to remain healthy or work to earn money, we should also work to remain 'happy'. Happiness is not a lottery gifted to you in a draw of lots. It is a way of life. People who understand this, live a blissful life while others are always questioning: why am I cursed? The book in later half outlines steps I had taken to set myself on the path of happiness. These steps are simple daily activities which I tried making a part of my life. They helped me in understanding life, our role in the ecosystem and how our interactions with the ecosystem enhance the pleasures of life. You are most welcome to believe them and follow them. You may believe some, drop few or dump them. It's your choice. Happiness is also a choice. If you want to remain happy, you will, come what may. Happy Reading

I have put my heart and soul into this book while recounting the highs and lows of my life, especially after I found myself battling with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which I got diagnosed with nearly 20 years ago. Since then, I believe it has been a roller-coaster ride. There have been so many challenges, setbacks, and inner turmoil, but I did not let them bring me down. I have triumphed over these challenges and emerged stronger. I am not afraid of my illness; I have nothing to hide. I know perfection does not exist, so I have tried to do the next best. If I have won, great If I haven't, this too is a lesson for me. I just take satisfaction in knowing that I did everything I could.

This book offers the first comprehensive coverage of digital design techniques to expand the power-performance tradeoff well beyond that allowed by conventional wide voltage scaling. Compared to conventional fixed designs, the approach described in this book makes digital circuits more versatile and adaptive, allowing simultaneous optimization at both ends of the power-performance spectrum. Drop-in solutions for fully automated and low-effort design based on commercial CAD tools are discussed extensively for processors, accelerators and on-chip memories, and are applicable to prominent applications (e.g., IoT, AI, wearables, biomedical). Through the higher power-performance versatility techniques described in this book, readers are enabled to reduce the design effort through reuse of the same digital design instance, across a wide range of applications. All concepts the authors discuss are demonstrated by dedicated testchip designs and experimental results. To make the results immediately usable by the reader, all the scripts necessary to create automated design flows based on commercial tools are provided and explained.

Quantized Heat Flow as a Probe of Thermal Equilibration and Edge Structures of Quantum Hall Phases in Graphene
This book describes the quantized thermal conductance measurements of integer and several fractional quantum Hall (QH) states realized in graphene devices. Although the electrical conductance quantization of the QH effect in graphene was demonstrated in 2005, a heat flow study of QH states needed to be included. This becomes particularly essential for the hole-conjugate fractional QH phases, where counterpropagating edge modes lead to complex transport behavior. The experimental results reported in this thesis are the first set of experiments done for the quantized heat flow in graphene devices since the first mechanical isolation of graphene flakes. The book devotes two detailed introductory chapters to the electronic properties of the graphene and its bilayer and trilayer parts at zero magnetic fields, and to the essential physics of the integer and fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states, the topological order of FQH phases and the experiments that can detect them. The book has a dedicated chapter for the details of the device fabrication and thermal conductance measurement technique. The rest of the chapters are dedicated to the systematic and detailed documentation of the new experimental findings of quantized heat flow in quantum Hall phases in graphene.

Emotions, Science, and Gender, 1800-1960

Saurabh Mishra

Springer International Publishing AG

This book presents a novel approach to the history of science by moving beyond the traditional focus on scientific authorities, institutions, and informants. It argues that histories of science cannot be limited to the study of 'science' alone, but must also consider the formation of scientific subjectivities (suffused with emotions), which were neither pre-formed nor fixed. Examining how individual scientific perspectives were formed within the context of non-settler colonies, the author focuses specifically on the case of ornithology in India. He highlights the role of gender, particularly femininity, and the work of 'women of science,' an area that has received limited attention in colonial histories of science. Simultaneously, the book explores how gendered categories of masculinity and femininity were implicated in these practices and reformulated in the process. This book also examines the intersection between science and emotion. For example, the author explores the influence of loneliness, grief, arrogance, and racial superiority in attracting people to science and shaping their works. Drawing on concepts from the history of emotions, such as ‘emotional communities,’ ‘emotional clusters,’ and ‘emotional performances,’ the book highlights the fluid nature of emotional experiences within scientific practices. This interdisciplinary approach provides a comprehensive understanding of how emotional, gendered, and scientific subjectivities were entangled within a complex colonial context.

This book is a comprehensive guide to Linear Algebra and covers all the fundamental topics such as vector spaces, linear independence, basis, linear transformations, matrices, determinants, inner products, eigenvectors, bilinear forms, and canonical forms. It also introduces concepts such as fields, rings, group homomorphism, and binary operations early on, which gives students a solid foundation to understand the rest of the material. Unlike other books on Linear Algebra that are either too theory-oriented with fewer solved examples or too problem-oriented with less good quality theory, this book strikes a balance between the two. It provides easy-to-follow theorem proofs and a considerable number of worked examples with various levels of difficulty. The fundamentals of the subject are explained in a methodical and straightforward way. This book is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students of Mathematics and Engineering Mathematics who are studying Linear Algebra. It is also a useful resource for students preparing for exams in higher education competitions such as NET, GATE, lectureships, etc. The book includes some of the most recent and challenging questions from these exams.
Politics of Water Conservation

This book examines the politics of rural development with special reference to watershed development interventions in the desert province of Rajasthan in India. Watershed development (and rainwater harvesting) is one of the most significant rural development interventions in rainfed areas of India since the early 1990s. A range of developmental actors including the state watershed department, international donors, NGOs and grassroots organisations are involved in sponsoring watershed development projects. Using multi-sited ethnography and conversational interviews with the deliverers as well as recipients of development, the book compares and contrasts the watershed interventions of the state and two different kinds of NGOs in Rajasthan. While conventional studies on watershed development have focused on the evaluation of ‘success’ or ‘failure’ of particular projects, whether implemented by the state or NGOs, the book moves beyond this narrow analytical gaze to look at the roles, agendas and interests of multiple development agencies, often partnering together and sometimes competing with each other as part of, what the author calls, the ‘watershed development regime’.Taking cue from watershed development and water conservation projects over the last two decades, the book engages with the larger question of ‘how’ of delivering development. It examines the complex processes of cooperation, competition, negotiations, contestations and conflicts between different stakeholders, including the agents of development and differently positioned rural social groups in the context of Rajasthan. The book demonstrates that the recent interventions in watershed development and rainwater harvesting have considerably shaped the politics of development in Rajasthan in a number of ways: by becoming a site for the remaking of the ‘state’ and its internal relations, by disturbing the local hegemony in the countryside, by creating new relations of patronage between diverse agents and recipients of development, by increasing the associational capacity as well as creating new conflicts (intra and inter village) and by initiating competition and cooperation between the various agents of development over control of local resources and power.
