Looking back over the generation in which I grew up, it was the proverbial best of times and worst of times. There were several downturns in our country which could easily have developed into a rather pessimistic view of life in general. But those days also gave us so much hope They were filled with fear and wonder, hope and discouragement. It seemed to be a balance of incredible advances in one area, while deep struggles in another. But all in all, they were great personal days filled with carefree roving and new sights and sounds around every corner. The safety of friends and family was always close at hand and the bright hope of tomorrow was to be embraced by the rising of the next day's sun. And I am so thankful that I grew up in such a good place and at such a good time. That place is Pearl River, New York, the small town that carries the nickname "The Town of Friendly People." Here is my life in the Pearl.

Just as there are laws governing our physical and civic lives, there are general laws that govern our personal lives. Violation of these laws creates personal problems as well. Laws to Live By gives us ten laws that will maintain order and foster success in our lives.

A special edition of "Beyond Yet Still With You", this book is ideal for use by readers, counselors, teachers, students, adults and children and is suitable for * learning about the nature and character of God, * finding comfort and peace, and * counseling through crisis. Highly interactive, this workbook includes the poem "Beyond, Yet Still With You", all the color art from the Reader's Edition, key terms, Scripture text and space to journal. This edition is a companion edition which works with "The Teacher's Kit", the Reader's Edition and the Coloring Book. "Beyond: The Workbook" is useful not only for personal reading and reflection, but also for * adult discussions, * teaching introductory theology, * Sunday Schools, * Home Schools, * Private Schools. "Beyond: The Workbook" will work well for supervised or group study and discussion, and for individual reading. A delightful reminder of the constant presence and protecting grace of God, Beyond Yet Still With You will be a blessing for anyone who has ever felt distant from God. Whether you are shopping for a gift for a child or a book to bring comfort to someone who is hurting, "Beyond" can bring a word of peace and joy to readers and listeners. Sometimes we need to hear a calm voice. Nighttime noises and daytime surprises can cause anytime tears and fears. We need a word of comfort. This book is ideal in those moments. Perfect for bedtime reading, gifting to a hurting friend, helping with counselling or just reading for pleasure, "Beyond Yet Still With You" brings the reader words and pictures of joy, peace and comfort. Handling difficult concepts (like figuring out where God is, or wondering if God cares when I am hurt) is challenging. "Beyond" breaks it down into simple terms: God is Beyond, but He is still with us. He is beneath, over, through, in, and above us. We are under His care. Because He is everywhere, He is here and we can have peace. "Beyond Yet Still With You" teaches us that God does sometimes seem distant from us. He is so far from us, so "beyond", as to seem inaccessible. God transcends creation. He is Lord of Heaven. But He is also Lord of the earth. Though He is distant, at the same time He is close at hand. He is a nearby powerful friend, an ever-present help in times of trouble. He is immanent. This book by Steve Jameson, the author, Karen Jameson, the educator, and Erin Jameson Brown, the artist, combines peaceful poetry, original Scripture translations and vibrant illustrations into a single work that explores this "near but far paradox" of God's character. Readers and listeners old and young will be reminded that God delights in His people. He protects us with His power. He comforts us with His presence. He watches out for us when we are out on a limb, walking through puddles and going to bed. We can be encouraged by the teachings of this book to understand we are safe because God is transcendent yet involved, distant yet immanent. He is over all, yet He is personally involved. He is "Beyond, Yet Still With You". The book is available in several languages (English, Haitian Creole and Japanese, with versions in French, Spanish, and other languages in the works) and multiple formats (illustrated poem book, coloring book, 13-lesson extended version "Teacher's Kit", and student handouts). The project also includes audio CD and a video DVD as well as a "coloring book" app for your mobile device. It is perfect for counseling settings, VBS, Home School and Sunday School. Gift yourself, your child or a friend with this gift bringing personal peace.
Beyond: The Teacher's Resource Kit In Color: A Companion Piece for Teaching With the Illustrated Poem Book Beyond Yet Still With You
This Special Resource Kit is part of the series of books using the poem "Beyond, Yet Still With You" to teach adults and children about God. The poem can be used - as a counseling asset (Where is God when I hurt so bad?) - as a grammar primer (What are prepositions of place, and how do we use them?), - as an introduction to theology (Where is God? Is He both "here" and "there"?) and in ways you might imagine. These notes will help you teach about the "immanence" and the "transcendence" of God. He is both "here" and "there" concurrently - "Beyond, Yet Still With You". The poem and this Kit will help in a bigger purpose: by knowing more about God and His character, we will experience more peace. ORGANIZATION The poem uses 7 prepositions of place (Beyond, Beneath, Above, Over, Through, In and Under), 2 locator words (Everywhere and Here) and 1 delightful term (Peace) to discuss, in simple terms, two challenging concepts: the location of God, and His ability to help us during times of trial. The first 5 prepositions address the question "Where Is God?" Beyond, Beneath, Above, Over, and Through. With the word "In", we begin our transition from "God as subject" to "me as subject". The word "Under" addresses the question "Where Am I?". Then comes a word of assurance about God: He is "Everywhere". Lesson 9 teaches that He is Here. Then we wrap up with Lesson 10, a word of Peace: The presence of God brings personal Peace. We also have included a bit of "special" or "bonus" material: (1) an invitation you can use to invite people to class, in both black and white and color; (2) suggestions for an opening lesson using the Psalm 77 adaptation from the book; (3) a review lesson; and (4) ideas for a Special Presentation by the class to an audience. These bonus items are presented in a way that can be easily adapted to local circumstances. Thus the kit has 13 lessons - enough material for a full calendar quarter. Throughout the poem and the lessons, we want to emphasize that the reader or learner is loved by God and protected by God. "Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely," Isaiah wrote in Chapter 32, "how blessed you will be". Even if it looks like Hell has broken out of its restraints and has come at you full strength, the assurance of God is that He will work all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. God will take care of us. He loves us. He is with us, even on the darkest of days. Each preposition of place used in the poem has a four-page treatment in this packet. Page A presents the poem portion, key concept, suggested memory verses, and art. Page B contains a series of verses pulled from the text of Scripture and related to the lesson. Page C has an in-depth treatment of the preposition intended as teacher's background. Page D presents a Classroom Presentation Outline (CPO). GUIDELINES Under ideal circumstances, the teacher will have the complete four-page handout for the preposition AND additional copies of the first two pages, one per student. Then each student can be sent home with a single sheet of paper which are printed on both sides; side A with the poem portion, art, key concept, and memory verses, and side B with pertinent Scripture verses. The pages in this book are NOT duplication masters. Five-Packs of Student Handouts (pages A and B) can be obtained from HushHarborBooks.com. Also, you can obtain the separate Student Workbook, which includes all pages A and B, plus two additional work pages for each lesson. Teachers should adapt the Classroom Presentation Outline to their class's age and maturity in faith as well as to the class size and time remaining and to the teacher's own style and personality. The CPOs have been carefully structured, but every class setting is unique. Therefore, we encourage you to use our structure as your own class outline, but adapt the activities to your class.

The U.S. corporate income tax - and in particular the double taxation of corporate income - has long been one of the most criticized and stubbornly persistent aspects of the federal revenue system. Unlike in most other industrialized countries, corporate income is taxed twice, first at the entity level and again at the shareholder level when distributed as a dividend. The conventional wisdom has been that this double taxation was part of the system's original design over a century ago and has survived despite withering opposition from business interests. In both cases, history tells another tale. Double taxation as we know it today did not appear until several decades after the corporate income tax was first adopted. Moreover, it was embraced by corporate representatives at the outset and in subsequent years businesses have been far more ambivalent about its existence than is popularly assumed. From Sword to Shield: The Transformation of the Corporate Income Tax, 1861 to Present is the first historical account of the evolution of the corporate income tax in America. Professor Steven A. Bank explains the origins of corporate income tax and the political, economic, and social forces that transformed it from a sword against evasion of the individual income tax to a shield against government and shareholder interference with the management of corporate funds.

Global tax policy has long determined which states can access the resources necessary to flourish. Today, even the wealthiest states struggle to tax rich individuals and multinationals. Anti-Black racism has enriched affluent states at the expense of marginalized ones and undermined the taxing power of all nations. In a compelling narrative interwoven with personal storytelling, Racial Capitalism and International Tax Law: The Story of Global Jim Crow connects Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s metaphor of the "bad check"-representing unfulfilled promises of freedom and equality to Black Americans-to contemporary anti-Black global tax policies. The book uncovers lost connections, such as those between Edwin Seligman, an architect of our global tax system, and the Dunning School, which laid the foundation for Jim Crow laws, and between Stanley Surrey, a Harvard professor and advisor to President John F. Kennedy, and key moments of the Cold War. Furthermore, it takes a global view and reveals how racial panic triggered by African decolonization allowed an exclusive club of white countries to deliver a second bad check to newly sovereign states like Kenya and Nigeria. By circumventing the inclusive one-country, one-vote system of the United Nations, the OECD and its double tax treaty dismantled the generous arrangements that helped Europe rebuild after both World Wars. Racial Capitalism and International Tax Law exposes the surprising role anti-Black racism played in shaping an international tax system that benefits billionaires at the expense of billions of people. This eye-opening account challenges readers to rethink the global tax system and its profound impact on racial and economic justice.
