Life After Power: Seven Presidents and Their Search for Purpose Beyond the White House
New York Times Bestseller New York Times bestselling author of Accidental Presidents explores what happens after the most powerful job in the world: President of the United States. Former presidents have an unusual place in American life. King George III believed that George Washington's departure after two terms made him "the greatest character of the age." But Alexander Hamilton worried former presidents might " wander] among the people like ghosts." They were both right. Life After Power tells the stories of seven former presidents, from the Founding to today. Each changed history. Each offered lessons about how to decide what to do in the next chapter of life. Thomas Jefferson was the first former president to accomplish great things after the White House, shaping public debates and founding the University of Virginia, an accomplishment he included on his tombstone, unlike his presidency. John Quincy Adams served in Congress and became a leading abolitionist, passing the torch to Abraham Lincoln. Grover Cleveland was the only president in American history to serve a nonconsecutive term. William Howard Taft became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Herbert Hoover shaped the modern conservative movement, led relief efforts after World War II, reorganized the executive branch, and reconciled John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. Jimmy Carter had the longest post-presidency in American history, advancing humanitarian causes, human rights, and peace. George W. Bush made a clean break from politics, bringing back George Washington's precedent, and reminding the public that the institution of the presidency is bigger than any person. Jared Cohen explores the untold stories in the final chapters of these presidents' lives, offering a gripping and illuminating account of how they went from President of the United States one day, to ordinary citizens the next. He tells how they handled very human problems of ego, finances, and questions about their legacy and mortality. He shows how these men made history after they left the White House.

The 7 Laws of Enough is about the most radical kind of change, at the personal, organizational, and societal level: a shift from scarcity to sustainable abundance. These seven principles, pioneered by leadership consultants Gina LaRoche and Jennifer Cohen, guide readers on a transformational journey of self-discovery, towards new leadership strategies and a renewed sense of fulfillment and purpose. It starts with law number one: stories matter. We are all living in the story of scarcity--the story that tells us we don't have enough. We want more and more, perpetuating a vicious cycle of consumption that lowers our own well-being and irreparably damages the Earth. This book is an invitation to live in another story, the story of sustainable abundance. The ripples from making this shift are profound--it will change your relation to your loved ones, your work, and the planet. Essential for spiritual seekers, business leaders, and environmentalists alike, The 7 Laws of Enough points the way towards a new way of living and leading.

How do you portray sin, evil and foolishness in humans? Religious and political tensions and even the weather - we are talking about the depths of the Little Ice Age - contributed to a boom in representations of the Seven Deadly Sins in the Low Countries and immediate surroundings in the long sixteenth century. In this publication, four accessibly written essays highlight different sides of the pictorial tradition of the Seven Deadly Sins, with the renowned print series of the same name designed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder at its centre. A fifth, literary essay describes the feverish visions of one of the victims of a true 16th-century series of murders permeated by the deadly sins.

The Center for Theoretical Studies of the University of Miami has been the host of annual winter conferences whose content has expanded from the particular topic of symmetry principles in high energy physics to encompass the bases and relationships of many branches of know ledge. The scope of the Tenth Coral Gables Conference on Fundamental Interactions included astrophysics, atomic and molecular physics, fundamental theories of gravi tation, of electromagnetism, and of hadrons, gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions, high energy physics, liquid helium physics, and theoretical biology. The range of topics is partially represented by the scientific talks which form this book. The tangible fruits of the conference are these papers; the intangible ones are the changes of outlook which the participants experienced and the new appreciation they gained of the basic unity of all knowledge. Historically, the early Coral Gables Conferences witnessed the introduction of the concept of the quark and the attempts to formulate a unification of the in ternal and space-time symmetries of the elementary particles, while later ones were the initial forums for new unified theories of interactions and for the ideas of scaling, light-cone dominance, and partons.
Dr. Zhijiang Chen's Seven Elements Theory: Seven element theory included all elements on earth: plants, warm energy, soil, mineral, water, cold energy
The seven element theory included all elements on earth: plants, warm energy, soil, mineral, water, cold energy, and air. This theory introduced each element's material, property, characteristics, function, relationship to each other, and relationship with life and organs. This theory tried to discover the universe's warm, dry, cold, and moisture energy, how they transfer and transform from the seven elements, and how they affect the animal and human life. The basic properties are good, bad, warm, dry, cold, and moist. Each element can have multiple properties. The property is associated with the amount and degree difference. The relationship of the seven elements is singular and mutual for promotion, restriction, over restriction and reverse restriction, excess and deficiency conditions, the mother and child relationship, and the classification and purpose of restriction. The relationship is about one element's interconnection to the other six in regards to these single and mutual conditions. The properties and relationships of the seven elements will reflect life and organ properties and relationships with the seven elements. The most important concept of the seven element theory is to provide a foundation of the relationship of organs with nature, and to set up principles and remedies for healthcare practices. The seven element theory is in accordance to each element's real property, function, and characteristics for connecting with life and organ functions. The main point is that the seven elements create life, and as life is created by Mother Nature, the seven elements are Mother Nature. One organ can represent one element, and characteristics of multiple elements can be contained in one organ. Multiple organs can have one element's property and functions. The main study methods are comparison, analysis, generalization, deduction, testing, and proving and disproving. This includes the categorization of things found in nature according to the attributes of the seven elements, such as shape, characteristic, property and function, followed by making the connection between things in nature and animal or human life. The original five elements theory is incomplete, the incomplete description of nature is not a universal truth. Only the universal truth will help us find life truth, and life truth will lead and guide us in how to deal with health conditions or issues.
